  6. Actually as far as the 6 vs. 8 thing goes I would rather have a v-8. However, with 350/450 h.p. on tap it would be wayyy to much for the teenaged driver(s) in my house. A V-6 is a simple compromise in the idea of keeping my son alive when he gets behind the wheel. I just remember how stupid I was with my 70 Chevelle when I was 17. Chris

  8. Pre-Chevrolet Motors-Name Thee Companies whose cars the Chevrolet Bros. Raced before starting Chevrolet The teens-Chevrolet produced this innovation in 1917...well over a decade before Ford before abandoning it for several more decades. Hint-Chevrolet paced the Indy 500 the year this innovation came back out, and the pace car used this. (Chevrolet was not the first car company to build this, BTW) The twenties-This Massachusets company built "woody" bodies for 1920's Chevrolet Station wagons. The thirties-A tough one-what Chevrolet Model is the lowest regular production car model of the 1930's (specific Chevrolet pass. car model). Hint-Chevrolet built fewer of these than they did Corvette prototypes in 1983. The thirties again-Chevrolet produced the last roadster type (no roll up side window) convertible when and where? (at least the last roadster until the 1953 Corvette) The 40's-Speaking of convertibles-Chevrolet resumed Convertible production (after halting it) what two years in the 1940's? The 1950's-First year for two door and foor door pillarless hardtops? The 1950's again-Tri-power was first offered what year and on what motor as a regular production option for a regular passenger car? The 1960's-On what car model line was the "Yenko Stinger" built? The 1960's Again-What was the last year one could buy a 2 door V-8 RWD station wagon? The 1960's Again-First year for 4 wheel disc brakes and the Big Block v-8 on the Corvette? The 1960's Again-What was the last year for the 409 Motor in a regular production passenger car? The 1960's again-I was Born on September 12, 1965. On or about my first Birthday General Motors thought I was so cool that they brought out this car...(Major G.M. car) The 1970's-The 1973 Corvette is a unique body style for waht reason? The 1980's-In 1983-Chevrolet brought out this car (which sold rather well) as a special edition of a regular production automobile in part because they needed the aerocynamic advantadge in Nascar? The 1980's again-This was the last year for RWD on the Monte Carlo? The 1990's-Chevrolet brought back this name for a special Blue and white Corvette (with a red stripe on the front fender). This name was used in the early/mid 1960's for a series of special racing Corvettes. Current-The C-6- Corvette shares this feature with the Scion T.C. but no other Corvettes since 1962. What is this "feature"? Hope this isn't too many questions. Chris

  11. For a street car you'll buy used the SVT Focus is the deal of the century...as is the Cobalt SS/SC. Both much better cars as drivers than the SRT-4 IMHO. Chris

    Actually a lot of Japanese cars are faster than a lot of American cars, but riced Hondas are seldom faster than a Schwin. Chris
  13. kind of a cool feature, though. Probably a lot of people in the 1950's were used to push starting cars as they had just switched from 6v to 12v systems. I think Ford switched in 56, not sure what year G.M. and Chrysler switched. The B-59 of course came with 12V but I wonder if people expected to be able to push start a car? I think Volkswagen used 6v into the sixties IIRC. Chris
  14. Good to know that they are still here. I think the Corvette Challenge cars that were raced in the SCCA also have an almost 100% Survival rate. in general later cars that are interesting are much more likely to be saved because let's face it after about 1972 the number of interesting cars dropped dramatically. (and thus interesting cars were much more likely to be saved) Chris
  15. 3% may be low but they sadly have a very low survival rate I am sure. My question I guess is why did these cars drop that far off of the radar? Even in the 1970's growing up people seemed to worship mid fifties as well as about 1964-1971 type cars. These cars (1958-61) have always seemed to fall through the cracks and I can't quite figure out why. Yes, you are right they were quickly dated by even 1962 but this whole generation still does have some gems. However, 10% survival rates for 50's cars? I just don't see very many 50's cars at all at shows and cruise ins anymore, even the evergreen 55-57 Chevrolet or the two seater T-Birds. hopefully you are right and I am wrong. Chris

  17. Actually the B-59 Started me thinking about this. I saw a 1959 Buick on the road...in 1972. I would guess maybe 3% of the 59 buicks survive, if that. Out of 285,000 cars that would be thirty out of a thousand which would make... Maybe 900 cars that survive in decent shape like yours? I think survival rates for Camro, Mustang, etc are probably about 20% or so. Suprisingly both the Corviar and the Cierra had very high survival rates for a very long time. Something like 80% of Cierra's survived to see their tenth birthday and 60% of Corvairs survived to 15-20 years according to a G.M. article i read several years ago. Thanks for the link to the 53 Corvette registry. IIRC one of the (real) 53 Vettes is still racing as a rather radical drag car to this day. Chris
  18. This is smart. The economy is still seemingly week in terms of job creation and they ain't gonna sell 100k units at 32k apiece. It will be interesting to see what happens to the Colorado-Canyon w a V-6. Although from what I have heard the 5 cyl is working out very well in these vehicles. Chris

  20. Probably the wrong place to post this but does anybody know where I can get any kind of info on survival rates of various models of GM cars? I am curious about cars of the 30's and late 50's because it seems like these two eras have very low survival rates. Does anyone here know if any models of GM car have gone "extinct"? I am sure that with all of the color combos available during the 50's we've probably crushed the last lavender and pink model of "x" but I am curious to know if there are any models "gone for good." Chris
  21. The 58 Desoto Firesweep came with a 350 4v before chevrolet came out with a 350 4v in the ss350 Camaro for 67. Wan't this the first 350 4v? Chris
  22. We can't eat fin at any cost... The 58 pontiac Ragtop is a great looking car. I am almost as partial to ragtops as sixty8 is to pillarless hardtops. Chris
  23. There is a Monaco Orange C3 that is freqently down at the bar down the street from my sons Middle School. Black was the rarest of corvette colors until the 80's and then IIRC for about 2-3 years it was one of the most popular colors. I am not even sure if Black was available every year during the early C3 era. Chris
