The point of this system is that it can go into basically any type of vehicle. A 50% increase on a small car would be much more impressive. Going by EPA figures, 10000 city miles will require 714 gallons of gas in a regular Tahoe. In a Hybrid Tahoe, 476 gallons of gas will be required. That's a savings of 238 gallons of gas for every 10000 miles driven in the city each year. For comparison, a normal Civic with 5-speed auto will require 400 gallons of gas to drive 10000 city miles, while a Civic hybrid will require 250 gallons of gas, a savings of 150 gallons of gas. While the Civic may have a better percentage of gas saved, note that it uses a smaller engine in the hybrid, while the Tahoe uses a bigger engine in its hybrid. It is also quite impressive that the hybrid Tahoe requires only 76 more gallons of gas over 10000 miles than a Civic, IMO. Comparing the Tahoe's gains to a bigger vehicle such as the Camry is more impressive still. Over 10000 city miles, a I4 Camry will use the same amount of gas as a hybrid Tahoe (!), or 476 gallons. The Camry hybrid will use 303 gallons, or 173 less gallons than a normal Camry I4. The Camry again uses a less powerful gas engine in its hybrid. To say that the gains are not very impressive is ridiculous.

Depends on how they've been driving (like an ass or not) and how I'm feeling that day. I guess I would be more likely to let a GM car in than another make, however.

Based on the info I have received, there isn't one in the books. That doesn't mean it won't change, but right now, I would bet that it's not coming.

First, the journalist is obviously basing his opinion on what he's seen from all the manufacturers, and he thinks GM's is the best. Journalists have already driven the hybrid T900s. CR's ratings and his opinion are two totally different things. CR's rating is based totally upon assumption, the journalist's opinion most likely based upon the real-world gains of GM's hybrids vs. other manufacturers hybrids. Clearly, the journalist's opinion could not be based on even less than CR's rating when you consider CR's ratings were based on nothing at all. His opinion would have to be based on stuff he's never seen to have his be even more off-base. As for the concepts... no one has a hydrogen powered car out or a plug in like the Volt, that I know of at least. A concept version of a normal hybrid would be rather dumb, but neither of them are the same thing as what is out today.

He's basing that on what's coming out from GM and other manufacturers.

No, the Vectra is on Epsilon. Perhaps it only applies to NA-Epsilons, though I don't see why it would be so hard to adapt the same system from the Vectra.

I heard that the Epsilons were not designed to have NAV from the beginning. I don't understand how you would have to design the area different, but I heard something is not wired correctly. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. As for the Malibu ads, has anyone else seen them? I think they're rather dumb. First, a lady is running and simply runs into an old (2 gens ago) Malibu, gets up and runs into it again. Then it shows the '08 Malibu and says "The new Malibu, a car you can't ignore." Then there is one about robbing a bank (which is admittedly kind of funny) and the robbers are in the same old Malibu when the cops pull up in front of the bank, but the cops run by the car and then you see the '08 Malibu and it says the same thing at the end. Not terrible ads, but I think they could do better.

Well, I guess we'll find out when it does in fact start production :AH-HA_wink: Perhaps the Camaro gets the normal 3.6 and the DI. However, I am sure the 3.5 is going into either the Impala or Camaro or both.

Production does not start in 4th quarter 2008. Perhaps non-saleable test units will be built, but not saleable units. Saleable units start in February 2009. Please do explain how a car with 425HP is faster than a car with 430 HP when the car with 430HP weighs less? Essentially they have equal power, but the Camaro will be at least a couple hundred pounds lighter. Perhaps the 6.4 will outrun the LS3 Camaro, but assuming the Camaro gets a supercharged version, well, the Challenger doesn't have much of a chance. Also, how do you know it is going to be the most luxurious of the 3? Because some Chrysler insider (who doesn't know what the Camaro's interior will be like) said so? I wouldn't doubt that it will be more luxurious than the crappy Mustang interior, but Chrysler hasn't exactly putting out much to desire in terms of interior material quality lately. I would hope that the Challenger would be more luxurious than the other two, seeing as how it is going to cost a lot more.

The side profile is quite awkward. For that type of money, I'll take a Viper, Z06, or 911. Thanks but no thanks, Nissan.

I'm not sure what's in the Viper, but I'm going to guess it's not exactly the same, the Viper's has to be much beefier I would assume. The T56 is/was used in lots of GM applications (CTS-V, GTO, Corvette, SSR, Camaro, Firebird). Basically all LS1s and LS2s were paired to the T56. Magazines don't seem to like the transmission much and always complain about long throws and rubbery feel.

I would guess we'd be lucky to have them here by mid-December. It takes quite a while to get them on the boat, through the Pacific, off the boat in California, and shipped out across the country.

Lutz made that statement on the GM Blogs, but I do not think it was true. Perhpas some pilot models for GM execs have been produced, but based on the info I have I don't think saleable units have begun.

Earlier we reported that a second version of the G8 would become available for the 2009 model year. We were not sure whether the vehicle was a performance variant, AWD variant, or something else, but we now have confirmation that a G8 GXP is in fact coming. The previous thread can be viewed HERE. As stated in that thread, the G8 GXP is still slated to begin production late 2008. It's less than a year away from production now. G8 production was supposed to start today, but it has been pushed back for another 10 days for whatever reason. I would expect the G8 GXP to have an LS3 and 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, though that is pure speculation on my part.

The Cobalt will be 5 years (2005-2009). The new one is a 2010MY. The Aura will only have 3 model years (2007-2009). The new one is a '10MY. No, the Cobalt is definitely Delta II. Everyone has just assumed that because Lordstown is getting Gamma, the Cobalt is on Gamma. However, who says the Cobalt has to be built at Lordstown?

He is not talking about the current Malibu and the new one, but rather when the new one becomes the old one and we have another new one (in 2011).

The G8 wasn't supposed to start production until the 15th. Either the ones already coming over are GM Exec vehicles, or it started production early. Or, Lutz is pulling our legs.

Good thought. This could explain why it appears on the UAW sheet that the current one and the next one overlap.
