CR loves the 2014 Impala
I almost fainted too when I read Consumer Reports review on this car. I have sat in one and it seems like a big step up from mine. Though my 2008 will have to do for now this could be a good replacement for it when that time comes. I do find it funny though that it weighs about 3800 pounds. That's as much as my 1985 Caprice and 1981 Bonneville. No longer can people say that those 2 cars are big heavy beasts since the new one is just as heavy.

The Chevrolet Sonic versus the Hyundai Accent
I got to drive a Sonic while Moms Aveo was getting some work done. Not really something for my taste but I couldn't fault somebody for wanting one. I think the 1.8 liter engine is great plenty for most people. I don't really like the idea of the 1.4 liter turbo. More to go wrong later. It was quiet, ride fairly well despite the large 17 inch tires. My biggest complaint with it is that the seats are a little narrow for somebody larger and the map pocket on the door and the other storage compartment in the transmission tunnel make leg space a little narrow. I also found that when you slowed down to about 25 miles an hour or so the transmission would downshift with a lurch. I thought the transmission could have shifted smoother though it was my first time driving a 6 speed automatic(I am used to driving 4 speed autos). Mileage in the time we had it was around 30 miles to the gallon which I though was real good for the performance it had. Overall not a bad car but it isn't my thing.

Project Toronado
I've had the carburetor rebuilt on my 1981 Bonneville. Mine started well but if you tried to drive too soon it would stall. The car tended to idle roughly also. Once the rebuild was done and some kinks were worked out it works much better. Surprisingly mine still has the original starter. The transmission was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago(It now has 123,000 on it). Other than maybe some new coolant hoses and antifreeze it wouldnt be afraid to take it on a road trip.

Project Toronado
I have had mine rebuilt on my Bonneville. I guess where the throttle shaft is was worn enough to cause a little vacuum leak. So keep that in mind. Good luck my friend.

Cars Sold; Goodbye Time
I am so sorry to hear that you had to sell your cars. But if you can try to keep the 1979 then do it. Maybe in the future things will change that you can buy again. Until then get better. And you'll still get to see the 1981 from time to time. Again, the best of luck to you.

Parts car?
I so hate it when people do things like this.

I think I'm going to make this year the year...
I dont blame you. I have my 2 older B-bodies that are just for limited use. Do what makes you happy. I might someday if money allows look for a 1971-76 Caprice-Impala. Trouble with those is the quality was pretty lax so try finding one in any shape.
