I remember the 4.3L V6 debuting in 1985, but Chevrolet first V6 based on the small block V8 was a 200 cubic inch version that debuted in the downsized 1978 Malibu. It was upsized to 3.8L in 1980 229 cubic inches (full size cars still had the 250 inline six as standard for 1977 through 1979), which was standard in the full size models and then upsized again in 1985 to 4.3L. I remember having driver's training in a late 70's Malibu with the 3.3. It could barely go up a hill.

The RWD X body Phoenix did have a base 2.5L Iron Duke some of the years, which I hope this one did not have. The 231 V6 would have been adequate.

Or a 1980 to 1991 Cadillac Deville, Fleetwood, or Brougham ( or even the 1980 to 1984 Oldsmobile 98 or Buick Electra) and put a 6.2L V8 in it.

I saw a Continental last week at the Ford dealer. It had no more presence than a Camry. It isn't wide enough. I am sure it is much more pleasant to drive with the Ecoboost V6's. I don't understand why Buick will sell the Insignia here again as a Regal. If it were up to me, Cadillac would drop the ATS and CTS, redesign the XTS, and have the CT6 and XTS replacement as its sedans, with 3 crossovers and the Escalade.

One rumor on Allpar is that the Cherokee will move to the Giorgio platform when redesigned. Apparently, there will be no more products on the CUSW platform (excluding the Pacifica and maybe a large crossover which supposedly are loosely based upon CUSW).

This is old news because the website allpar has been reporting for months that the LX will last until the 2021 model year. Also, LX has a few parts from the Mercedes E class, but I have read that it has more parts from the LH platform.

Allpar seems to say the next Charger and Challenger will debut in 2021 not 2018.

Possibly a large crossover on the minivan platform.

allpar says the LX lasts until the 2021 model year, when Charger and Challenger move to the Giorgio platform. It looks more and more like the 300 will be gone after the 2020 model year. allpar also says the Cherokee will probably eventually move to the Giorgio platform, and the CUSW platform will be history.

Because of the decline in sedan sales, I think GM should consider dropping the Sonic and Impala and Cadillac should have only one or two sedans at most. At Buick, I would have dropped the Regal instead of the Verano, but Buick also needs no more than two sedans. Ford probably can get rid of the Fiesta and Taurus. I fully understand why the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 are going away. I don't think the sedan market is coming back, and people will just buy smaller crossovers when gas prices go up.

I wonder if Chrysler has any new vehicles in development after the Pacifica, Compass, and Wrangler, maybe the Grand Wagoneer. People on allpar talk about Giulia based 300, Challenger, and Charger in 2019 as well as new Dodge and Chrysler crossovers, but I wonder if that is just vaporware.

Yeah, but the Cruze is now as big as an early fwd Malibu or the 2nd last Grand Am. Very good to see one of the greatest posters of all time back here.

No one would buy this car as attractive as it is. The LaCrosse and Verano are enough cars for Buick in the current market. The crossovers are where it's at.

I rented a 300 last April and a 200 last August. The 300 was wonderful in every way, and the 200, even with 4 cylinder, had good power, but poor visibility and an unsettled transmission.

With the slightly larger Spark, a Cruze hatchback coming, and rumors of the next generation Verano (which currently shares its plant) coming from China, I wonder if there will be a next generation Sonic.

The iM will have Toyota's reliability reputation. I am glad for a Corolla hatchback in the US.
