Rumorpile: Cadillac LTS To Debut At New York: Comments
Yes, it would be ideal for Cadillacs to actually have names again, but there is a reason for this. Names do not always translate globally. Think about it: China is a bigger luxury car market than the USA. A name for a model may not always work in that case. Moreover, NONE of the luxury marques use names on their models, and have not do so for a long time. Besides, the old names may not be the best way forward. What new names would you recommend instead?

GM News: General Motors Says More Diesels Are Coming To The U.S.
I hope that GM has learned to avoid the mistakes of the last set of diesel cars from the late '70s. A lot of people became Toyota or VW buyers for that reason alone. Of course, there should be diesel options in as many types of vehicles as possible, if the demand is there.

Chevrolet News:GM Talks Pricing For 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon
$20-22K to start? That is way too high. If GM were smart, these would start at about $15K so that no onw would think to buy a Silverado/Sierra instead. As for size, if mini-trucks are forthcoming very soon, then these prices might be justifiable.

Opel CEO Talks Up New EV
I hope so too. It is well past time GM shift straight into a pure EV to compete against Tesla rather than the Volt/ELR/Ampera set. An EV would be simpler to build and maintain than any hybrid.

Quick Drive: 2014 Chevrolet SS
Sounds like what a lot of people have been waiting for. Who needs 50% market share when higher profits and better cash flow are the real name of the game? As for the car itself, this is really great. Now if only there were a 6cyl version to directly compete with the 300/Charger twins. . . . .

GM News: New Documents Reveal A Current GM VP Knew About The Ignition Switch Problem
You would have to primary everyone out first. Most primary challengers this year are losing to incumbents. Maybe in 2016...... The political system in our country is much more badly broken than GM. Of all the major things in our country, GM is one of the most effective and sanely run. I would say that Ford has been better run in the last 8 years than GM. Currently, what you said may well be true.

Quick Drive: 2014 Jeep Patriot Latitude 4X4
Any reason why there is a Patriot AND a Compass? Maybe ditching one for the other might address the confusion issues. Also, $27K for that?! Pass.

Rumorpile: End Of The Line For The Commodore Name
The car itself needs to be saved AND be put into service as a direct competitor to the 300/Charger twins. (I know that the Chevy SS exists, but that is a 300 SRT8 competitor only.) An upmarket version should be available as an Equus, if not 7/S-Class/LS, fighter for Cadillac. Other than sites like this one and car magazines, I have never heard of a Commodore. The name can retire, but the car must be saved.

Cadillac News: Cadillac Not Giving Up On Europe
I still am not sure why Cadillac is trying to break into a market essentially sealed shut by the Germans. This is not the USA of 1971, where competition was actually welcomed. Europeans are extremely brand loyal and nationalistic in their car purchases. Moreover, the eurozone is an economic shambles. Cadillac should greatly focus on the USA and east Asia (i.e. China) instead of the failing Old Continent.

Chrysler News: Analysts Think FCA Has Too Many Brands, CEO Marchionne Disagrees
I have never figured out why anyone would buy a Fiat 500 here in the first place. I suppose you could say that about the USA lineup in Europe. GM has already slashed its car brand name lineup some years back, and FIAT has more than GM ever had right now. Then again, I do not think that Sergio has fully figured out what to do with each and every brand at all. Once he does, then FCA will become a lot more cohesive and more profitable in a few years. But Sergio needs to figure this out sooner rather than later. AFAICT, the only melding of FIAT into anything Chrysler is a FIAT 500 in the USA and the Dodge Dart. Who buys either of those?

Industry News: Average Age Of A Vehicle Stands At 11.4 Years
Too bad I had to replace the 99 Park Avenue Ultra for the 08 Lucerne. I really like the Lucerne, admittedly more than the PA. Then again, I will probably hang onto the Lucerne for at least 5-7 years. If today's new cars were priced as if it was 1980, then the average age of cars would drop like a stone. Reliability and cheaper/easier to fix are the best reasons to hang onto older models.

First Drive: 2015 Hyundai Genesis
Yes, the Genesis is a BIG CAR. The Equus is meant to take on the S-Class (albeit not that well). Then again, the Genesis does compare very favorably to the large FWD luxury sedans these days. One Q: are the Genesis sedan and the 300/Charger twins competitors, or are the twins in a totally different market?
