January 2010: GM core brand sales up 30%
What a good month for General Motors! The new Equinox and Terrain aren't able to stay on the lots around here! This is the day I have waited my entire life for... The Malibu (16,439) out-sold the Camry (15,792). **I never thought I would see the day, but alas it has finally come.** The new SRX has also started to pop up on the roads, I just hope GM can keep this up! Sales of the GMT-900 SUV's were also up, another good sign.

As sweet as a Solstice would be... Do you really want another RWD/performance car? If this car is really intended to keep the miles off the G8 then I would get a car you can really drive to work and in the winter. So that would remove the Solstice, sorry. I think a CPO Envoy Denali (love 'em) or Trailblazer SS would be a much better fit, still sporty with lots of go, but they can haul and tow! Plus they are AWD for the worst of North Eastern winters, just my five cents. Finishing close after that would be a 2006-2007 CPO Monte Carlo SS or a new Equinox 1LT or Terrain SLE2. I don't no what your budget is but I have got a few '09 Impala SS's around me if you wanted to go new.

2011 Buick Regal CXL: $26,995
Decent pricing, for the CXL and 2.4L but the Turbo'd CXL seems a tad high I was hoping it was around 1,000 more rather than 2,500. I do wonder how much the GS will run now? If it is over 33,000 *base* it will have a hard time selling with the bigger LaX CXL/CXS in that range. Anyways exciting stuff.

I understand but lets just say he had the car 6 months and out six months it was at the shop all but 45 days! He had very bad luck with it, Ford ended up buying it back and he got an Olds. Just trying to help the man out, plain and simple. I didn't know you were such a wise a$$...

We didn't get a chance to drive one yet... But after some articles from C&D, MT, Automobile and other sources he has pretty much narrowed it down to a Malibu or maybe another Accord. Right now a Malibu 1LT in Taupe Gray Metallic or Mocha Steel with the body side molding, spare tire and convenience package (Bluetooth, Remote Start, and power driver seat) is what he is leaning towards. He got a great quote on a lease from my small town dealer, lower than an Accord and slightly more than a Camry that I simply talked him right out of. (The recall no-doubt helped.) We talked about a Fusion and refused, because he had very bad luck with one Ford product years and years ago. He prefers the new Malibu's looks over the current Accord as well... It is looking like a new Malibu 1LT will be in his driveway within a month or so, and the 2007 Accord will be returned back to Honda. He also brought up he plans on replacing his 2006 Ridgeline and asked for a suggestion, and I told him Silverado or Avalanche. Then he asked me if he could get a Silverado Extended/Crew or Avalance for the same price as a Ridgeline and I asked him how much is the Honda? He replied 35K. I said you can have a new extended cab Silverado LTZ 4X4 for less after the current rebates. Then he asked me about fuel economy and I replied 15/21 and told me his Ridgeline was rated at 15/20 under the new EPA ratings... Then I... The looks on his face was priceless, and I am sure he was wondering how BOF V8 powered half ton truck could get better fuel economy than a unibody CUV based V6 powered Ridgeline... I have no doubt we will get into this more later this year. Moral of the story this person might just be back to an all GM house again, to go along with his mint low miles 2001 Olds Aurora, and nothing could make me happier.

System Wax Vs. Clay/wax?
Ahhh finally something I can chime in on... Clay bars have worked about half the time for me, the other half of the time I am still going after things with other products. If you keep your cars waxed and clean (most of the time) your need for a clay bar will be greatly reduced. They do work for certain things but I don't fall into the group that can't live without them. I have been exclusively using Meg's Gold Class Paste Wax for the past two years, although not cheap it does a wonderful job and holds up very well. I have decided either spend the money and get the good stuff or forget it...

Exactly, that is why interior materials aren't a huge deal. This car will be beaten and I know a Malibu will take it, as for the new Camry, not so much. I will make sure he looks at a Fusion but I am thinking he would prefer the Chevy. Anyways any other tips or pointers or good ways to push the Malibu?

The Story: A good friend of mine that I have gotten to know over the past six years is car shopping and in need a of a midsize sedan. He has done some "window" shopping and currently has considered a Altima, Accord, Camry, and Malibu. He says the Camry is the front runner and certainly I hope to change that. This friend has no loyalty to any brand his past two cars have been Accord EX-L's and would prefer something different. He has not driven any of them yet and has an open mind but has been reading consumer reports... Not good... This person trusts me and am going to need ever bit of fire power to sway him away from a Camry and hopefully to a Malibu. Any idea's to help me prove or show what a great car the Malibu is? Or sales points in general? (Besides articles and other ratings like that...) This will be used as a private drivers ed car as he teaches drivers ed.

I understand the extra twist, but once the motor runs out of electric juice its gone, that is the problem. I am not someone here bitching about the design, because for a FWD/AWD car I like it, but needs a turbo 3.6L V6 or small V8 to be a true "flagship". Then again I believe the easiest way to make a car better is a bigger engine and more power.

If my father were alive today, a traditional Cadillac customer, he would say where is the V8? I am going to ask the same question, where is the V8? I could care less if it a Northstar or an LSX based small block but this car needs one. The styling isn't half bad, and looks much better in the show floor photos, than GM's typical $h!ty photography. I love the exterior styling, and front end, but it needs 340-350ish horse V8 or a turbo 3.6L, when I saw the 350hp I thought turbo 3.6L and got happy, then I found out it was a hybrid electric motor... If a hybrid is the only way this car is sold, without a turbo or V8 that will be a mistake, although the rest of the cars style and sweet interior might make up for it. I still say a small displacement V8 (under 5.0L) would be the way to go in this car, and bet you could slide one in, especially if it were an OHV based Chevy small-block. It is a flagship Cadillac and it needs a V8. Having said that the car has great styling and luxury and might do okay based on those facts alone. (Think MKS, RL, even A8) But to really call it a flagship it should have no less than a V8. My next question is how much will it cost? Final thought if they manage to put a turbo 3.6L or small V8 in it this car will have no problems selling. How hard would it be to take a 3.6L Direct Injection V6 and add two cylinders and say 50 ponies?
