so the focus scores a 9.5 in emissions ratings but only a 7 in greenhouse gases, the prius does better in greenhouse gases. a- greenhouse effect is a theory and besides it wouldn't hurt if the globe warmed up some here in MN anyways b-the prius does indeed do well in cleaning the emissions but for most pratcial purposes a california equipped PZEV focus will do pretty much as well c- if you want clean air, leave california. there is plenty of clean air in north dakota, trust me.
  4. if this had been GM or Ford, it would have been plastered all over the news, the only thing the person watching tv remembers is the brand name, the number of vehicles and 'recall'.
  5. how reliable is a stalled prius or a corolla without lights? especially on a zero degree winter night with your kid in the back?

make sure you look at the MSRP too, of course its rich looking for a compact, 150hp car, when the MSRP is north of 25 grand.
  7. Pontiac has priced the G6 GTP manuals out of contention. Most GTP G6's are optioned to the gills and priced at 28-30k on lots. TRY to find a G6 GTP manual somewhere for the base price. It would make more sense if Pontiac offered a basic G6 with 3.9 and manual for more like 22 grand. And the base 4 cylinder should be offered with stick for around 17 or 18. Like the Fusion. Sonata even offers stick with 4.
  8. both of these are exactly the type of stuff Ford and GM need to latch onto and be leaders in, and also, I've always thought that once these tow ideas became feasible, they would be HUGE. I would defintiely give my OHC and OHV up for a 'camless engine'.

somebody please find some data on the Prius emissions so I can see if it emits significantly less than a simple ford focus that likely gets darn close to the same mileage.

Compared to the nation-wide Tier I emissions standard, the SULEV standard requires 97 percent fewer hydrocarbon emissions, 76 percent less carbon monoxide and 97 percent less nitrogen oxide. In practical terms, a SULEV like the Focus PZEV emits only one pound of smog-forming pollution over 15,000 miles of driving. That’s good enough to earn a perfect “10” on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Guide to Green Cars. By comparison, each Focus powered by a 2.0-liter Zetec four-cylinder engine – itself a clean, efficient design – emits up to 10.7 pounds of smog-forming pollution and a vehicle certified to the Tier 1 standard emits about 30.1 pounds over the same distance here

if we all don't buy a prius, hell in a hand basket and armageddon will occur, oh my GOD we'll run out of CLEAN AIR for our CHILDREN TO BREATHE!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course driving a partial zero emissions Focus would accomplish the same 'saving society' kind of feat, but where Ford won't threaten your psyche with, 'buy our car or because buying a non-Toyota will mean your family will die soon', Toyota chooses to imply this in their advertising, and worse yet, all the clueless fuqs in the world drink the Koolaid on word that Toyota is the only manufacturer in the world participating towards reducing emissions (and thereby not willingly killing all our future generations of children). DOES THE PRIUS ERADICATE THE WORLD OF BIRD FLU TOO???????????????? I bet some advertising agency hired by Toyota is concocting a way to suggest such a thing as we speak.........

people are so desperate these days to 'make a statement' or 'be a part of something revolutionary' or 'in with the right crowd'. Its like people will feel unloved or will descend to loser status if they don't buy the right car. And Toyota is appealing to all of our human insecurities in a masterful way. Yes, I know their cars don't break down a hellofalot, but there are more reaons than that now for why everyone drinks their coolaid. Maybe I am more upset about how very few of our citizens in the USA today can think of themselves anymore in light of all this image consciousness and relentless bombardment of marketing and half baked media and journalism at every turn in our lives.

most folks would be better off pocketing the 10 grand and getting a base 4 cylinder malibu, which can often top 35mpg from what I've heard in multiple sources.

funny you mention that, i was cleaning our master bath about an hour ago and it has really piss poor ventilation, even with the exhaust fan on. My eyes are still burning from the windex and bath cleaner fumes. Maybe I got high, too. I dunno, I just HATE toyota lately, but what sends me over the edge is their pretentious advertising, and their manipulation of media and data. I also hate the mindless sheep that fork over huge coin to the boring toyotas of the world, without driving anything else in comparison (besides a Honda or Subaru). I am neither hugely for or against GM, so I am not biased and simply call them as I see em. This holier than thou relentless beating us into thinking they are Godx2 is getting OVERBOARD. I am sensing a backlash someday, but when?

that kind of rampant pomposity is what led me to start this thread........its time to expose Toyota for what it is...... that new Civic commercial, that new one, really is pompous also.
  22. actually, that steering wheel has a built in PDA.........before they were big sellers!
  23. that steering wheel looks like a collection of mighty tasty beef jerky sticks too........
