Mileage has little bearing on the condition of a car. How it was taken car of does. Your fixation on "low mileage" is what's holding you back. If the 300M, for example, had its timing belt and waterpump replaced withing the last 50k miles it'll be good for another 58k. That's the only major component those cars generally need at that age.

I prefer the sedan's greenhouse and C-pillar design. The coupe's C-Pillar takes away from the swoopy design. Not ugly but almost more boring. Still, its nice to have choices.

The water pump has something called a weep hole, which is designed to leak coolant out when the pump begins to fail so (theoretically) you can see the coolant leak and more easily determine the problem.

I know lots of people who live in Boston or commute to or from Boston. My boss for example, commutes an hour and a half from there. He'd much rather take the train but unfortunately the network stops about a half hour from where work is. From that point on its freight line. He wants a G37 in the future but not while he lives in Boston, it would get dinged up in no time. I've driven there, I hate it. Hate it. I'd much rather take the train. Of course there's plenty of people who need to have a car, but that's need not so much want. Most buyers probably don't buy a Camry because they dying to own one. Even the cheapest piece of crap Versa is more than $10,000. No sane person aspires to own one, certainly not teens. Not only that, even being a band new car there's the costs of maintaining and insuring it associated. I don't know about you but when I was 16 I didn't have 10 grand handy. As well, not everyone in cities have places to store cars beyond public roads, which as I mentioned before, will likely get them dinged up. Going the used route is an option, but there again you have the costs of insuring and maintenance, plus the costs of repairs the car will need at some point. The amount of people who put off important repairs on their cars or do it with the cheapest, lowest quality parts is startling, but its because often times they can't afford it. Also, as the article mentions, kids are still interested in cars, but those are dream cars like 911's not Cruzes. By and large as a 21 year or or evena n 18 year old is going to be more mature and have a greater sense of responsiblity (and a job) than a 16 year old. Honestly, I didn't get my license until I was 18, and didn't get my first car until I was20. Couldn't afford it before then, much as I wanted to. Dude I only wish, although I would add that the tests should be much harder to pass in the first place. Any dumbass can get a license now. -- We're different. We're enthusiasts and love cars. I love my car and the freedom to go anywhere with it (just not the time or spare money for gas to do so!) But enthusiasts have always been out numbed by people who just view them as appliances. Now just more of those younger people are seeing less of a need to want to own one.

It's not dumbed down. I don't know if anyone here has noticed lately. but the economy isn't in great shape. Especially if you don't need a car, it makes perfect sense not to take on the financial responsibility of owning one. From payments, to insurance, to maintenance. It costs a lot of money to have a car, and if you live in an era where public transit is a viable option, there's not a real need for it. Plus, it works well for those of us to do enjoy our cars. Remember that statistics show that 16-18 year olds have the highest accident rate of any rage group. Having less of them on the road is just fine by me.

A good strategy. It's basically what GM is doing with Buick, which has been working pretty well. Plus, if its using a different body style than the Dart so it'll help further differentiate it.
