  1. Didn't toyota claim to have the 'first' steered headlights or some similar claim on a lexus-badged car?
  2. Harley- I hope you have had the opportunity to walk around a '67-70 E in person. The detail & inspiration is more than enough to solicit peals of laughter when in comparison, a mercedes or bmw is considered... rkmdogs-- the Es you are referring to are the '57-58 Eldorado Broughams 4-dr hardtops. They were shown earlier in this topic, here's one of the pics:
  3. The red job above is a '63. Danged similar... but the taillight bezels are 'boomerang-shaped' in profile for '64 while the '63s are dead vertical as above. Fins are also higher for '63 and the '64 has unskirted rear wheels.
  4. A few years ago while driving, up ahead maybe an eigth mile at a major intersection, a '57-58 Brougham glided thru the crossstreet to me. It was like a shining vision; everything around that intersection dulled and became fuzzy. I wish I had been closer, but at the same time it was hardly necessary. These cars had such presence!
  5. Overall, I love the Eldo. Favs would have to be (no particular order) '56, '57, '57-58 Brougham, '60, '67... and even when I can narrow it down to a handful like above, I stumble across another unsolicited gem that still makes me all gooshy inside. Was looking over a '66 Biarritz last month- sweet car. Also like the last of the boats :'77-78 and the 'new guard' '79s too. Last gen had real sweet curb appeal, too. I don't think there's been a model line that speaks to me so bewitchingly over it's lifespan than the Big E. EDIT: Damn HE- that pic of the '56 finally loaded after I posted. While yellow ain;t my cup of tea, there's no denying the beauty of Sabre Spokes & the Florentine Curve. Awesome!
  6. Damned straight! Ven- have you picked up The Buick; 600 pages! So far it looks to be quite thorough. I have a 600-page history on Packard on it's way, too. Gots me readin' cut out for me....
  7. ocn as usual is right there with his 'aww shucks' guess: it's a '36 Buick. First year for suicide doors. I'm going to say it's the Limited Formal Sedan, one of 74 built.

This isn't the chick that was 'after' you, was it?? I take it from earlier posts that even drunk, you wouldn't go there if it was her...
  9. I believe puma was talking about the "today's younger generation of car buyers", not the 'young generation' et al. The average age of car buyers today is in the mid 40's, which renders the early 20s statistically insignificant as far as buying habits. That's not to say 30- and 40-somethings don't take advantage of modern methods of car research, but it can reflect a different set of motivators. Don't be so defensive.
  10. Buick: 1900 - 1 1902 - 1 1904 - 37 1905 - 750 1906 - 1400 1907 - 4641
  11. Are you asking how many cars Buick & Olds each built over their histories?? I remember totalling up the number of Pontiac Catalinas built from '59-81 and it took a long damned time. IMHO, 'numbers' trivia is like the lottery: either you know the exact number and your right... or you're wrong. There's no way to 'work around to' the correct answer...
  12. A chip off the ol' iceberg, Fly. ;) See what you can do about mitsu next.
  13. Ahh, OK. The copper-cooled Chevy was air-cooled (the cylinders were finned), this Cadillac merely has copper-jacketed cylinders; it is still water-cooled. Therefore using the term 'copper-cooled' is a misnomer. Of course, I still didn't know it. <_<
  14. I'd like to see DeSoto back in the US mark..... wait; that's not what you meant?? Then I have none I'd care to see in the market that isn't, and a number that are in the market that I'd care to see gone.
  15. Thanks Sixty8, it is beetchin' ain't it? Had a great idea- going to set the COE up as a tow vehicle for the '59- whatcha think??
  16. My truck hauls everything (dirt, stone, firewood, furniture, shop equipment, tools, car parts, engines/trans, go karts, etc) plus tows every once in a while. On average, bed is actively used once per week.
  17. "Combi" is used throughout the fast food industry as a gimmicky marketing phrase for 'combination value' meals, usually emcompassing a drink, fries & a burger. "Combi" is also an affectionate pet name farmers give their harvesting combines.
  18. I'm not a real fan of Chevrolets, but that comes mainly from overexposure rather than deficient product. I've been in many '60s & '70s Chevys and they do not 'reek of cheapness' compared to their sister divisions, but they just don't appeal to me. If anything, it is most modern cars than reek of cheapness in comparison, in many areas of examination. I would rather, however, own a late '60s Impala than a '90s or '00s Impy, hands down. I have no problem with what would be it's forementioned attributes, including safety & mileage. Handling, braking & performance is laughably easy to make superior to any late-model Impala. And I guess I had better not mention appreciation/depreciation....
  19. nope! Uh-oh...... :(
  20. >>"It was the Civil War....even 12 year olds could have fought."<< HM Leland actually tried to enlist in the Union Army in 1861, but was rejected due to..... his age. >>"Lincoln was created by Leland and Ford saved it from bankruptcy."<< Right; so Ford actually did not have a hand in creating Lincoln, tho he did in preserving it (a few years later IIRC).
  21. The point is not whether the respective companies are issuing PRs but where they are found. toyota's piece came from the media, GM's from their website. A company can issue a PR a day but if it never gets picked up or published by the media, it never becomes 'news'.
  22. 1964: 330 V-8 - 26"W x 28"L x 27.5"H 394 V-8 - 30"W x 32"L x 29"H 330 weighed about 560 lbs, 394 weighed about 700 lbs. This is the first instance (the earlier 215 V-8 was Buick-built). In later years the 350 and 455 also were co-existing small & big blocks, and there are other times & engines that fit that criteria.
  23. Conflict: >>"There were 27,720 Corvettes sold in 1966, and that was the highest number produced in any year?"<< >>"The largest ever production run of the Corvette, 53,807 units sold, was 1979?"<< It is a lot of info, but there is a bunch of 'overlap': ie: '1968 was the last year of the 327' and '1969 was the first year of the 350'. Good read anyway.
  24. Aerodynamics is seldom visually evident.
  25. whoops- math mistake: I was looking at 1843 and thinking 12 years to '65 instead of the correct 22. I had thought HML created Lincoln as an independant company and then sold it to Ford. What early Ford involvment I am overlooking? In fact I am considering SAH membership.
