You have to give a credit card # to register with eBay; either to buy or sell; no way around that. FlyBrian gave a spot-on definition of how the bidding works. Only thing I would add to all of the above is: if you do wait until the last actual minute and there are a few other bidders involved, you might not have enough time to find out what their bid might be, and you may --in your frenzy to be high bidder-- end up spending more than you wanted to finding out the max bid the current high bidder entered. My suggestion if you choose to be a last-minute bidder (called 'sniping'): open at least 1 new browser window (if not 2 or 3), all set up with increasing bids. You enter the lowest bid and if you are not then the highest, you can one-click the next bid in in a few seconds. This is mandatory for those sad sacks still using dial-up. (HI THERE!) I've been on eBay for about 5 years now, primarily selling. I do sell a large quantity of other's stuff for a cut; anywhere from 25% to 50%. Best item I sold was my wife's cousin's never-assembled pedal boat from the '60s. He thought it might have gotten $100 or $200 and about fell on the floor when I showed him it sold for $2100.

That's it in my sig. Love this car; it's lines are simple yet fantastic. Wish I had more time & less projects so I could buy it.
  4. Happily, the continual eroding of mercedes continues. FWD 4-banger "premium" SUV??:lol::lol::lol: Nothing premium about that interior.
  5. That's Rebel Without a Cause from 1955, starring James Dean. Not only is the car iconic, unquestionably the movie is too. Jackass 'journalism' at it's best. Makes me want to drop a '49 Merc off a jack onto the torsos of these journalists, so they can scream up at the Mercury hood emblem and learn something worth knowing for a change.
  6. It had better f**king not! 8 million foriegn cars flooding the roadways annually sure doesn't seem to!

Anyone remember triple-stripe whitewalls? Not sure if or on what they may have came- I associate them more with replacement tires, but I've seen them now & again in the past. I like 'em, tho I have nothing they'd be appropriate on.

Interesting that both saab photo ops were next to Eldorados.

Looked over a '40 Plymouth coupe, a '40 Dodge coupe and a phasmagoric '41 Cadillac coupe with a 390 underhood today. Caddy had a freakin' manual trans in it! Everytime I get close to these classics, new cars just look worse & worse and worse to me. There was a lexus GS parked near the '41: looked like dried vomit in comparison.

I had thought a legal "motorcycle" required less than 4 wheels?

Thanks Harley; as much as I appreciate unique elements, the 'HC' looks better without the scallops.
  12. Wife's ex- '98 Intrique: NOx-- standard: 625. Reading: 31 HC-- standard: 78. Reading: 2 CO-- standard: 0.44. Reading: 0.00 Sure- there's always room for improvement, but that's a damned clean pipe. Contrast: '59 Buick Invicta (in 1986, mileage circa 97K): NOx-- no test HC-- standard: 1600. Reading: 874 CO-- standard: 10.0. Reading: 6.74
  13. God, that saab interior SUCKS! What a fussy, busy mess. I don't like the BLS at all. I don't think it's bad as an entry-level european vehicle, but God forbid it comes to the States; it ain't no Cadillac. The detail that bothers me the most is the absence of the 'shuttered' eggcrate grille, ALA the CTS. That, and it really doesn't look very upscale. Given the vote, I would not green light it.

I want to like those fender scallops... I really do... :(
  15. The '61 Eldo is easily the least significant & valuable E up to that point since they began in '53. Oh sure, still a great car, but nearly forgotten even within the fans of vintage Cadillac. It was the first year the special Eldorado touches & unique sheetmetal & trim were totally gone. Arguably the low point between '53 and '70. Obviously another wild, in-the-dark stab by a "journalist" far too busy to even try and appear informed. And there are a lot more Eldorados than '59, Moltar.
  16. FlyBrian- I've seen a great quantity of pics of the Flitewing over the years, and tho it has some really cool & innovative features, it also has plenty of stylistic oddness to it, too. Oh; it's still more hip than the AMC Cavalier, but it's no Miss America, either.
  17. 185,000 unit net increase. Don't you feel stupid, Dave Healey.
  18. What is the nature of the 'agreement'; in that: is it a license or does it otherwise grant 'permission' to sell in the U.S.? What I'm getting at is; is there a technical & legal way to outright refuse the companies' product? I'd like to know exactly where to direct my anger in situations like this...
  19. Ahhh.... And since when in recent decades have the cars themselves not been enough ammo against NASCAR? It purpose is not to 'send a message', that's ridiculous. Those that read one in this case do so because they are at least somewhat fixated on race. Making stereotypical race-related comments only further supports this. If NASCAR was somehow race-restricted the allegation is legitimate. But it's not and it's not. Trying to make it a legitimate issue doesn't help anyone involved. Just curious: ever watch any pro basketball teams??
  20. At least with Cadillac & Led Zepplin, the image of Robert Plant is primarily when he was in his 30s(?). Jagger & Richards look like they're in their 80s. Wonder if it'll nudge up the average buyer age of mercedes?? :P
  21. Ideally, race should be a non-issue. We'll never get past stereotypes like 'leave their hoods at home' until it is. We need to stop counting...
  22. Damn- you're right: that one blows tremendously. Allow me to specify: "more unlikely product pairing"...
  23. WTF does ethnicity have to do with anything here?? BTW- I have no use for NASCAR after 1970; when manufacturers built all their own race cars & powered them.
  24. Hard to think of a more unlikely marketing pairing than mercedes and the Stones.

Don't you EVER!! use the descriptor "obviously" with another one of these tossed laundry bags of 'future car' pics again, you hear me, Josh?!?! It's completely ridiculous. Don't make me come up there...
