  1. Thank you, Croc, you've illustrated my point beautifully. Those endless fields have a lot more than just grass in them. There's an incredibly diverse population of organisms living in the plains region that is disrupted when human development takes place. But unlike clearing a forest, this disruption is much more subtle in appearance, and people are less likely to take notice. Similarly, when pollution is concentrated in cities, it's much easier for people to notice the illnesses and other problems that it causes. And when people don't notice problems as easily, they're much less prone to fix them. It makes me wonder if people will get to a certain point and say "mission accomplished" when they need to be saying "this is good, but we need to do better." So yes, these plant-based fuels are great, but we need to look beyond them, to even better methods of energy production. However, instead of just focusing on the present, we need to look ahead, in anticipation of the next problem, and the next, and so on, in an effort to constantly improve our world and society.
  2. Arguing can be fun, even healthy. Arguing over styling preferences is pointless and often idiotic. And Sixty8, once again, I think you for salvaging a bad thread with gorgeous pictures.
  3. But we can work to minimize the land we need to use for consumption by making more efficient use of it.
  4. Maybach uses several different woods for the interiors of their cars. I'm not sure what that one's of, I just grabbed it off Google beause I knew it would best express my point. I've always thought their slogan should be "A small forest in every car." True, but existing problems shouldn't justify future ones. Ethanol may be a step in the right direction, but it's still got its flaws. Whether the crop is destroyed or converted into gas, the land would still be better off being left to develop back into a natural ecosystem.
  5. Reeeeeaaaaaally? Sorry, couldn't resist that one. Edit: But seriously, you've got a good point. Doesn't Morgan even still use wood in the framework of their vehicles? The problem I see with all this plant-based stuff is that it would require a pretty big increase in the amount of land needed for agriculture. It's nice to reduce dependency on foreign oil, but there's still going to be a great toll on the environment. The biggest difference between gas and alternatives like hydrogen, ethanol, etc, is that the environmental toll will be displaced outside of US cities, so that people won't have to notice it as much. Out of sight is out of mind, right? We need to work on developing better ways of generating electricity. It's pretty ridiculous that we live in the 21st century and our main energy supply is still coal.

  7. The fact that there would be a great deal of threat to the US. We're combating ideologies, not individuals.
  8. not funny
  9. Continuing with the Lincoln theme, how much does a used LS run?
  10. Idunno, man, this one seems to fit you better:

http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-welfareblack.htm The stereotype of women popping out babies for more Welfare money is a myth. I'm sure it's happened occasionally, but the majority of poorer people who have loads of kids do so because they're uneducated about birth control, a service our government doesn't seem to want to provide.
  12. I could understand that for a prototype, but the Titan's been out for a while. Problems like this should have been solved already.
  13. 70, should've been 80, but didn't notice the two options for Sofia/Sophia. Ye tricky bastid.
  14. Small death?
  15. That's been pretty representative of a lot of the US's performances in these Olympics so far. Too arrogant and not taking the competition seriously enough, and it's been biting them in the ass.

I doubt that'll Fly, but since it is on airplanes, you might get an exception. Still, I'd be ready to take those down if I were you.
  17. Not sure if this is tech help, but does anyone here know a site to decode the VIN for a '68 Camaro? My dad has a black RS/SS that he's trying to restore to original condition and a lot of the parts had been replaced with racing stuff by the guy who had it before. Thanks.
  18. Boxers and any sort of herding dog, because those are what I've always had. My least favorite is probably German Shepherds. I'm not sure why, but I think it might have to do with that time when I was little and I got attacked by a German Shepherd.
  19. The episode was hilarious, but a lot of it felt way too staged. Also, I found it funny that someone actually used the term "ugly as a troll" in the same sentence as a reference to the LR3/Discovery, and actually was referring to another car. Silly Brits.
  20. [PBS Documentary Voice]Oddly enough, while the Metro's miniscule size means almost certain death in most other types of accidents, it actually proves advantageous in rollovers, as it is too light to crush itself. [/PBS Documentary Voice]

I love the vocals on that song. Waters's voice sounds so trippy, and always makes me feel like I'm on drugs, then Gilmour comes in with the real emotional stuff in the chorus. It's a perfect blend with Gilmour's solos.

Interesting factoid I learned today: Be they Marilyn Monroe voluptuous types or today's skinny models, they all have the same basic proportions. Throughout societies, the ideal size may change, but in all of them, the ideal is for a woman to have a waist that is 2/3 as wide as the hips, hence the 36-24-36 as the ideal number.

I have the same problem. Plus, my doors are extra-long, so they get more torque when being shut, which also contributes to slamming harder than people realize.

Hey, look at that, what looked like a big slab of gray plastic on the dash in GM photography actually bares some resemblance to aluminum in these pics.

    Interesting . . . The post-Waters stuff usually doesn't get much respect.
