Their test data says the TL weighs 90 lb less than the other 2 cars, it's got the best grip, and it takes tighter corners than the G35. It just has a weaker engine. Maybe the G35 was doomed by its clutch and transmission? Dislike of it is expressed by many reviewers. Buy the automatic they say.

As the buyers ponder between this, or a Civic, Mazda3, Sentra, Focus, or Cobalt. I would only put the Civic on top. The other 3 cars have to lure me with their bargain prices. The Mazda3 is for the performance crowd, with like 8 less mpg. Big difference for a commuter's choice. When there's no other choices on the market, bland is still comes out as best. The idea that the engine needs to turn ON to test "2500 rpm idle" is twisted. The Prius is delivering the truth. At idle, it produces ZERO emissions. And that should be recorded as the official test result. Because the engine does turn off. Because it really produces ZERO emissions at idle. In any case, all cars have diagnostic modes. The prius does already have an engine always-on diagnostic mode. No patch needed. Emissions shops just need to know how to turn on diagnostic mode. It's the standard hit the brakes a couple times, put car in park, hit brakes more, yadda yadda... *pop* enter Diagnostic Mode. So a good thing to do, would be for state law or federal law to mandate car companies to provide shops with easily accessible info on how to turn on diagnostic modes.

Shouldn't the IIHS collect whiplash data during their frontal crash tests, where the vehicle is taken as a whole? Lucky for Toyota, the Vitz/Vios/Yaris is a global car. Matching supply and demand is an easy task. Plus it gets real world 39 mpg. Yes I think the interior sucks too. But the outside is oozing cute. If Toyota makes over the interior, it could be great.
