Project Achieva
PROJECT ACHIEVA It is coming up on 3 months since I bought my 1995 Oldsmobile Achieva S. Here is an update on some of the things I have done in that time. First up, was a complete cleanup of the engine bay. Here is what it looked like on June 4th (2 days after I got it): And here it is August 15th (with new alternator and battery): I spent a few hours every morning cleaning by hand. A labour of love...and not quite finished yet. The hood was the hardest part (in terms of bending to get to all the small spots) I also added some blue LED bulbs for the footwell lights. They add a nice touch complementing the cars colour. I hope to get better ones that diffuse light in the future. Some nightime shots around Toronto... A few days ago, I started exploring the idea of adding racing stripes (something I had always wanted to do if I got an Achieva). Nothing rice, but subtle 442 inspired hood stripes... After buying some more electrical tape  , I filled in the stripes: I also added side horizontal stripes to finish the look. Not too sure about these. I think it looks half-way convincing from far away. I am planning on trying a white stripe set soon. Also planned is blue carpeting (the red '91 Achieva concept car had matching red carpet). Other stuff I would like to do include: Getting the lower intake gasket fixed ($600$) K&N air filter Finding a set of 16" Achieva SL wheels Maybe a Flowmaster Delta 40 exhaust? So far, I am very happy with this car. It idles smooth, drives nicely, is comfortable, looks great and averages 22-23 MPG. For more Achieva fun, I have videos on YouTube. Saw production Camaro in person this weekend
Sexy sexy car. As long as this program has taken, Im still very much in love with this car. I bet 99% of regular folks won't even notice the difference from concept to production. Any more pictures BuddyP?

Coupe or Sedan?
The Cobalt coupe looks better than the sedan, but the sedan is a looker in higher trim (as shown by HarleyEarl) Its funny you brought that up, as I ran across this article this morning doing some research... http://www.thebiglot.com/reviews/1997_PONT...PRIX_REVIEW.asp

It's a little early for my birthday...
5-door red Yaris gives it away. Very pimpin Olds.

New Stuff
Holy $h!! You got the camaroz28.com Camaro! Those are very rare, and most were preordered from what I heard. You always find the coolest toys. I can't even find the Hotwheels Camaro vert around my area.

Opel Insignia Sports Tourer — The New Wagon in Elegant Sportswear
It looks like they intended for the tail lights to extend upwards, but resisted in the last minute. Very Audi meets Volvo at the back!

Underachieving problem
Can anything be done to better cool the alternator? This was a relatively easy fix, but I would hate to do it every year lol! I got ripped a bit on that. They charged $178.49 for the Alt, 89.95 labour (1 hour) and tax. I probably could have done all this myself, and will be better prepared for next time....(hope there isnt a next time). $200 for a wire? Not fun!

Underachieving problem
OK, Achieva is fixed! Heres the story: I went to Part Source first per Oldsmoboi's suggestion. As I was driving there (a 5 min trip from my home), the volt gauge was dropping. The ABS light turned on. I got there with the needle in the danger zone. Mike the service guy said that the machine to test the Alternator is currently broken, but I can test the battery. Worried about not having enough juice to make it to the mechanic, I decided to just go. Sure enough, the car wouldn't crank. I got the battery out and we put it on the tester. It began charging (it read: charge 45 minutes). 10 minutes in, the charger gave up. battery was toast! OK, so I bought a new battery ($100), and with fingers crossed, dropped it in and fired her up. It worked, but the needle was still in the danger zone, and the charge light was still on. Not wasting time, I thanked Mike (who was very friendly and helpfull), and booked it to the mechanics. At the mechanic, they tested the alternator. Yep, it was not charging the battery. Ordered a new one (reconditioned), and an hour later (and $300), it was in and the Achieva and all systems GO! So, Im $400 dollars poorer, but everything is back to normal. The ABS light has not come on either!
