  1. Basketcase is just my way of saying it needs a lot of work in many areas. I've seen real basketcases in my lifetime than this truck. The more and more I think about this truck, the more I want it. I've got a few people that can't understand why I like an old farm truck/flat bed. I find it unique in a world full of half-ton pickups. Everyone restores those, not many people put money into the heavy duty trucks. Since this would be a show vehicle, not a daily, I'm kind of wanting to give the ol' guy a new life. What doesn't help my case is money; otherwise, I have found a place to store it nearby where I live if I decide to make the purchase, and possibily a way to get it there too. Maybe I'll decide over the weekend (truck is still listed for sale as of today). Money may end up being the deciding factor, as I can't give him the amount he said he wants, but he said make him an offer.
  2. I'd be interested in trying something like this out. I currently have polished aluminum rims (factory) on my 2006 GMC Envoy. I've always wanted white rims but don't have the $$$ to swap them out. If vinyl wraps were cheap enough, I'd consider them - especially for "winter mode".
  3. Happy belated Birthday, ZL-1!! I hope your special day was a great one

  5. Went to see it yesterday (Sunday). I really like it, but it is a basketcase that needs a lot of TLC. I haven't made a final decision yet, but if you want to see the 100+ photos I took, go here: http://s19.photobucket.com/user/GMguy74/slideshow/1955%20GMC%20350%20Flatbed%202WD%20DRW

  7. Funny you should say that. I spoke to the owner/seller last night and he told me he obtained the GMC from it's 2nd owner who lost his storage place (10 years ago). He had all intentions of restoring it and making it into a rollback truck. His son is resto-modding a '55 GMC pickup and he thought, "How cool for a father-son related project" and making a rollback to haul his son's GMC. However, they've been concentrating on the son's '55 pickup and he has too many other projects. My luck the '55 GMC is for sale I'm planning to go see it in person on Sunday. Trying to bring someone more knowledgable than me alone to come check it out. It's very short notice for many people, I know.
  8. I agree, dfelt. Ultimately it will take money, time and help from people to get it into a show state. I don't want to waste any more time though. I've been wanting a GMC of this vintage 20+ years. There's always some excuse. I'm at the end of that rope!! I'm not getting any younger and fewer and fewer '55-'56 GMCs are out there where I can get to them. If this does happen, the plan would be to scrap the excess framing on the rear, restore the truck as best as I can (afford), and leave it as a chassis cab until I can put a nice, new flatbed on the rear.
  9. http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/4100335374.html I SO WANT THIS THING!! Seriously. It's located in Mechanicsburg, PA, outside of Carlisle/Harrisburg. I wish I knew someone out this way to go check it out for me in person. I'd have to get real creative with finding a storage spot, but I've got two potential places in mind (if the people will be open minded). My illusions of granduer have this in mind for this GMC (after a lot of time and money, of course!):

  11. I've read this on another site and the price difference between a new '14 GM pickup and an outgoing '13 F150 was almost $3k. That's a lot of money to someone shopping for end-of-year deals (there are very few 2013 GM pickups left at this time). So GM will not sell as many pickups as Ford and Ram will right now, but once those '13s disappear then the market will re-align itself again. I will agree with many that stated pickup prices are way too high. I'm hoping the new Canyon satisfies my needs & wants, as a Sierra is looking farther and farther out of reach (unless I wait for the summer and end-of-year sales next year). If GM raised the prices just to release incentives, then their back to their old ways again
  12. I've been on a Caprice PPV hunt lately (okay, for the past month or so). Last weekend I attended a nearby local fire station's fire prevention week open house. EMT's were called due to a spectator having cardiac issues and the police of that town (Springfield, Burlington County, NJ) now have a new 2013 Caprice PPV. On my way home from work tonight I spotted a NJ State Police Trooper parked in the median in his Caprice PPV - the first NJSP Caprice I've seen in person.
  13. for a very , black-knight!!
  14. Saw another '14 Corvette Stingray - this time in white - in the same area as yesterday (I-295 outside of Bordentown, NJ) on my into work this morning. Quite an impressive sight to see so early in the day
  15. I saw my first on-road 2014 Corvette too yesterday. It was in a really nice blue color, getting off of I-295 SB into Bordentown, NJ. New paper license plate in the plate holder, lucky new owner!!
  16. Happy belated Birthday!! Hoping you had a great day.
  17. Happy belated Birthday, fellow diecast collector!! I hope your day was a great one.
  18. Welcome back to the family, BV. Glad to see life has led you down some interesting paths
  19. I don't recall if the LeMay Museum has a '48 Tucker, but if they do and it's on display, please take lots of pictures of that for me
  20. I've only been able to find one HW '14 Corvette so far, though Maisto makes a 1:87 scale version on sale at Toys R Us and Dollar Tree Stores. Not as nice as the Hot Wheels and you can tell it's of cheaper quality metal too, but man they're everywhere! I've got dibs on my HW 'Vette, but my son wants it bad. I'll keep looking Side stepping this topic a bit, Fisher Price "Power Wheels" brand has the 2014 Corvette Stingray in a 1-seater version out. Target's is black, Wal-Mart's is red, and Toys R Us's is Barbie-themed hot pink. I want to get my daughter this for Christmas, but so far the wife isn't thrilled with a 3rd Power Wheels vehicle taking up space in the house.
  21. Good suggestions so far. Like I said, I'd be initially happy with the Impala (or the second runner up, the Verano) but ultimately I'd become less interested in it once the newness wore off and I'd miss being in a truck/SUV. Every Impala I see lately is calling my name, too bad my wife isn't into them
  22. By the way, when the movie was released in late 1993 Mattel offered a set of Demolition Man movie cars: These are the nine vehicles that were offered for sale. The cryo-cubes, rebranded Hot Wheels license plate parking garages, featured a double-side photo card - one side featured the concept vehicle and the other side featured a puzzle piece. When the cubes were assembled in order, they would form a poster from the movie. I have many of these bought bewteen the movie's release and Christmas of '93, but I'm missing 2 or 3. I see these from time to time at toy & car shows, and of course eBay is your friend if you need to go that route. On another note, if you've seen the movie you know at the end an Oldsmobile dealer of the future (2032) is featured. Also, the classic car used by the hero (Sylvester Stallone) is a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 coupe. If you look at the list of concept cars above, Oldsmobile featured two concept/pre-production vehicles - the Aerotech II and the soon-to-be released Aurora sedan. Here's an interesting article from October 1993 that states GM intentionally featured Oldsmobile to reinforce that the division was not going away. It's ironic then that Oldsmobile did not live past 2004 Same thing with the Back-to-the-Future series; the second movie spent half of the movie in 2015. Predominantly Pontiac was featured in the future - the 1988 Pontiac Banshee and the 1987 Pontiac Pursuit concepts were heavily used on set and the Studebaker (1955)/Toyota (1985) dealerships became a Pontiac dealer for 2015. Sad to say Pontiac didn't survive past 2010.
  23. I agree with you on Demolition Man, Ninety Eight. It featured 17 of GM's most current concept cars from the late '80s up through 1992. The GM Ultralite concept was even picked to be the "star car" of the movie - they made 20 fiberglass models with full running gear to be used as police cars and civilian models and then one of them was used in the 1999 Robin Williams movie Bicentennial Man while another was used in an episode of NBC's SeaQuest DSV: Here is a picture from filming of the GM concept cars used: Let's identify the 17 shown in the photo: Front Row - GM Lean Machine Second Row (L-R) - Pontiac Sunfire [1990], Pontiac Banshee [1988], Buick WildCat [1985], GM Ultralite [1991] (trivia - they were badged as a Chevrolet for the movie) Third Row (L-R): Oldsmobile pre-production Aurora [1992], Pontiac ProtoSport 4 [1991], Corvette Stingray III [1992], Oldsmobile AreoTech II [1989] Fourth Row (L-R): California IROC-Z Camaro [1989], Cadillac Aurora [1990], Pontiac Salsa [1989] Back Row (R-L): Cadillac Voyage [1988], Cadillac Solitaire [1989], GM HX3 Hybrid Van [1990], Chevrolet Venture [1988], UNKNOWN-white concept car (possibly the Buick Sceptre [1991]?) Another vehicle featured in the opening "1997" portion of the film was not a GM vehicle at the time but would eventually be sold under the GM banner: the 1991 AMG HMMWV (aka Humvee and Hummer H1). Can you tell I'm a fan of this movie?
  24. NJ tried doing this but after 3-4 years it stopped. I can't tell you how many people put the stickers in the wrong places We still had to have the state inspection sticker displayed in the lower right (looking at the driver) corner of the windshield, this little sticker related to the expiration of the registration card we must also have in NJ. The theory was that all a cop had to do was look at your rear license plate to see if you were still valid with your registration. I think they were too small to see far away and if pulled over to verify the sticker they'd just end up asking for the registration card anyway.
  25. Discussing with some friends lately new vehicles. Many are sticking to the type of vehicle that they currently have now (CUVs, pickups, sedans, etc). So we got on the topic of what vehicle would interest you that is outside of your norm but would be an appropriate daily driver to replace the type of vehicle that you currently own. This is not a "what ultimate vehicle would you choose if money were no issue" scenario. It's a scenario where you don't get the vehicle you prefer; for me that means no pickup or SUV. So I'll start this off. If I were buying a vehicle today outside of a pickup or SUV, I would choose: 1) 2014 Chevrolet Impala - I'm smitten by this new Impala. I will admit at introduction last year not really being all into it, but once it made it's way to the public I found it's style and design very intriguing. This is one car I could see myself owning outside of a pickup or SUV. 2) Buick Verano - Again, another car I'm smitten with. Smaller than I'm comfortable with, but an attractive design with a great interior and fuel economy to boot. Those are my two. What are yours?
