I'd like to see a profile shot..it looks like the proportions are pretty good, with less of the usual FWD front overhang... The styling is very Dodge, and will fit in nicely between the Caliber and Charger, I think...

Definitely.. In 20 years of driving, my guesstimated breakdown of miles driven per configuration is: RWD/manual: 30% RWD/automatic: 10% 4WD (RWD most of the time)/manual: 20% 4WD (RWD most of the time)/automatic: 35% FWD/manual: 3% FWD/automatic: 2% I've only driven a few AWD cars, but I'd probably lump them in with FWD (Audi A4, S4, and Subaru Legacy).

Go to HR and complain...maybe get her pathetic ass fired.

About 15 years ago, when my '87 Mustang GT still had its original Goodyear Eagles, I spun it out (did 180, missed the guardrail) in heavy rain while accelerating up a curved entrance ramp onto the PA turnpike...scary, scary.. (lucky no one was behind me) and a couple times in the late '90s I got caught out in it in an unexpected snowfall (going from a clear, sunny evening at 5280 feet to a sudden snowfall at 8500 feet over a pass)..very scary also--had to make very careful throttle and steering inputs..another time, I caught some black ice in a shaded corner on a twisty switchback road at about 9k ft elevation on a sunny summer day...spun around 180 and came within a foot of a guardrail above a 500ft drop-off.. (about filled my pants that day). My old 4cyl Mustang LX I had in college was pretty drivable in foul weather with snow tires on all four corners and weights in the trunk..it didn't have enough power to get into trouble..

I think my perspective on work and meaning of work has changed..when I was a psycho Phd academic in my mid-20s, and my years in startup companies afterwards, I was very enthusiastic, gung-ho, 'do whatever it takes if means working 100 hrs a week to get the job done', make a difference, etc). After a couple of rounds of burnout and depression in my early 30s, I'm more cynical about corporate life, more resistant to doing any overtime, and more interested in enjoying my vacation time. I've made gains in position and pay, but I'm not driven to be the VP of Engineering or CTO if that means working 75-80 hrs a week (which it usually does). I've never been interested in the normal 'get married, settle down in suburbia, raise 2.5 kids, and have a minivan' lifestyle that so many of my peers have... my g/f and I have talked about marriage, but I don't think we will get married any time soon..though I have thought about moving to the 'burbs so I can have more square footage. I've also thought about becoming an independent contractor/hire gun again, I did it briefly a few years ago..after 4 years in the same company (that has gone from 150 people to 300 people to 25000 people now after 2 aquisitions) I'm getting bored with the insurance software business.. I'd like to work abroad at some point also...

I take my Jeep through a regular car wash (at 6 yrs old, 75k miles, it's too old to care about keeping spotless--too many scratches and rock chips are there) as it needs it and get it hand waxed twice a year..I vacuum it out as needed. My M3 I take to a gourmet car wash and get it hand-waxed and the interior detailed twice a year or so..ten years old, and it still looks great. If I had a normal garage (rather than parking spaces in a shared underground one as I have now) I would do it myself (which I used to do when I had a normal garage). When I move to the 'burbs, I'll start washing and waxing my cars myself again probably..

The TL is one of the few FWD cars I'd consider buying..I've test driven them a couple of times..I love the interior and the fact I can get a 6-speed manual. The exterior looks great, esp. in profile and from the rear, IMHO. As far as the Evo, yeah, they are fast, but the interior looks cheap and the exterior looks too cartoonish, IMHO (not as bad as the hideous Subaru WRX Sti, though).

It's sweet...got mine last week... the Greenlight '67 & '68 hts are very nice also, though a larger scale than the JL '65 and '69, so they don't display well together..

There's a big difference between buying a $3k TV and $30k car... I would expect a much longer warranty on the car, as it is more complex and has a lot more components.

Exactly..a 3 yr/36k warranty is pretty skimpy...

Yes, I checked the stats in the article..they were all fairly well matched dimensionally.. the Audi is only 2.3 inches shorter than the Escalade..but almost 10 inches lower in height (which should be good for lowering the center of gravity). The biggest problem with the Audi I saw is that it is as obese as the others..5500+ pounds!

I'm not in the market for big luxury SUVs, but the Benz would get my vote in this group..less obese than the others, decent styling, very drivable, and it doesn't have the 'bling' image of the Escalade (which is a negative IMHO). If I wanted a luxury SUV, though, I'd be more likely to go for something smaller, like a current style X5.

Ahh..the big 80s.. I remember that decade fondly--high school, my first car, starting college, the music, the cars, etc...

I saw a Ford Mondeo, Ford Lobo (F-series), a Chevy Sonora (Tahoe), Chevy Vectra, Chevy Chevy (Opel Corsa) all in Phoenix this past weekend...all Mexico-plated.

Had a nice quiet 4 day weekend with family in Phoenix..did a lot of nothing...relaxing, playing with the dogs, grilling, getting a lot of pool time (the weather was perfect except for some rain). Found out Thursday afternoon that my company was being sold (2nd time in 2 years), so that was a nice start to the weekend (I'll actually make a few bucks on my stock options that are now 100% vested).

I'm more a map and compass fan myself.. when I'm in a rental car without a compass in an unfamiliar area is when I find myself getting lost. Though I'll probably get a car with a nav system eventually, it's not a selling point for me.

I wouldn't consider the '80 Cutlass (or Regal or Monte Carlo) front end to be significant--just a rather trivial 4-headlight and grille change from '78-79.
