College Fraternities
1. A house where you live with a group of other guys (or girls for sororities) 2. Visit one and tell them you're interested in joining...I'm not sure of the exact process, but you go to meetings and if you make it in, then there's "initiation" 3. Not really much...you get a greek lettered sweatshirt and a group of 50 guys that drink all the time, that's about it. It's actually more expensive to live there than residence halls...but usually they provide dinner for free. Technically, it's supposed to look good on a resume and all that, but I've never had any interest in joining the Greek community. 4. Yes, most get in as Freshmen. If you really want to join, find someone that's in the frat and talk to them about joining....they're pretty much always recruiting. If you have the right personality they're looking for, you'll probably get in.

Mitsubishi Motors Develops 'Green Plastic'
Introducing the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Seriously though, this does sound like some good work. However, from what I've read, CO2 isn't nearly as big of a problem as hydrocarbons and Nitrous Oxide. Both those two deplete the ozone layer, while CO2 only adds heat (after all, we exhale CO2). Still, it's good that automakers are starting to do innovative things to help the environment.

File this under "WTF?"
It's kind of sad, because by the time the kid is in high school, his mom will either be senile or have passed on. And considering she has diabetes, I doubt she has too many years left ahead of her.

Bitter COLD next few days
The video should work now. Man, it was bad today. Probably half of the students skipped classes. I went to all of mine but it was miserable walking with this arctic tundra wind blasting in your face the entire 20 minute walk. Tonight it's supposed to get down to -18 F...I'm planning on just sticking around the dorm. It's funny, because only a few days ago, it was 60 and sunny. Damn you, Punxsutawney Phil and your damn shadow.

Can someone explain this?
I discovered this site called NNDB.com that tracks famous people and lists know information about them. Under George W. Bush's profile, it says "Assassination Attempt Tbilisi, Georgia (10-May-2005)" NNDB (link in middle of page) This is the first time I've heard about this...I checked Wikipedia and it came up with nothing. Did somebody try to assassinate him, or is this info incorrect?

Bitter COLD next few days
It's currently 11 F right now, with a high of 9 F tomorrow...and a low of -15 F tomorrow night. We had a snowstorm today and got about 7" of snow. Even with that, we still went on our field trip to Des Moines to tour a couple downtown buildings. We were on the roof of the 20-story EMC building during the blizzard and man was it cold and windy! Here's some video footage of the snow flying from the roof You Tube

Detroit News: 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid Review
"Performance hybrid" is an oxymoron. The price and mileage doesn't justify the small horsepower boost over the regular Accord. And the fact that the Accord Hybrid has worse emissions than a V6 gas Explorer is kind of pathetic. So much for green and clean. People don't buy hybrids for performance, which is why the Prius outsells the Civic and Accord hybrids by a huge margin. I predict the RX400h and Highlander hybrids will see the same dismal sales as the Accord because once again, they focused on horsepower instead of fuel savings.

Music..
I have all their albums from Queensryche through Promised Land, along with the Greatest Hits. I've heard Hear in the Now Frontier, Q2K, and Tribe aren't very good, but I haven't really ever listened to them so I don't know. Do you have a link to the Mindcrime II review? I heard a couple live bootleg tracks from the album and they sounded good to me, but from the limited amount I've heard off Tribe and Q2K, I'm not really impressed with current 'ryche. They seem to have lost their metal edge.

2008 Celica?
This was posted at the Top Gear boards. I don't know how much credibility it has, though; see if you can spot the major flaw of fact in this article.

Marilyn Monroe
Yeah, I bet it's Korea too. Look at the style of clothing and the picture quality...definitely too early for the Vietnam era.

Music..
All Queensryche's albums from the debut through Promised Land were remastered a few years ago and the threw on some live and never-released tracks. The only remastered ones I have are Queensryche, The Warning, Rage for Order, and Empire...so I don't know for sure what's on the others, but here's what they added to those four: "Queensryche" - live tracks recorded in Tokyo, 8/5/84 Nightrider Prophecy Deliverance Child of Fire En Force Blinded The Lady Wore Black Warning Take Hold of the Flame Queen of the Reich "The Warning" Prophecy The Lady Wore Black (live London, 10/20/94) Take Hold of the Flame (live Madison, WI 5/10/91) "Rage For Order" Gonna Get Close to You (12" Version) The Killing Words (live London, 10/20/94) I Dream in Infrared (1991 Acoustical remix) Walk in the Shadows (live Madison, WI 5/10/91) "Empire" Last Time in Paris (unreleased) Scarborough Fair (unreleased) Dirty Lil Secret (unreleased)

Yep, BMG Music...I got them for $3.99 each because they were having a sale. And they're the remastered versions with the bonus tracks, too.

I'm a Van Hagar fan too. A lot of people say you can only like one or the other...bah! My favorite song on OU812 is Source of Infection, but Mine All Mine, Cabo Wabo, and Sucker in a 3 Piece are all great...hell, the whole album is good. And "Love Walks In" off 5150 is one of my favorite VH ballads. "Get Up" is a great one to drive on the interstate blasting.

The latest craze
I can safely say I have never had that happen. Back in high school, the thing that the bigger guys did was walk by and punch someone in the arm so hard that they felt it for a couple hours afterward. You get the knuckles on the right muscle and your arm is pretty much useless for a little while.

Neat Photography
I'm a huge fan of urban photography and landscapes. These are some pictures I saved off a skyscraper forum...some of the best images from the Empire State Building I have ever seen. It's amazing how much this area has built up since I was in New York in '95...on the pic below, many of the buildings on the left weren't there 10 years ago. Later on, I'll post some of my own work...I need to resize it before I upload it. Internal Alarm Clock
I had a weird spell this summer where I would wake up many days at 5:55 AM (I had to be to work by 7), even though my alarm was set for 6:15. Not 5:54 or 5:56...5:55 AM exactly. Even here at school, I usually wake up 10-15 minutes before my alarm clock goes off, and every time it freaks me out because I think that I overslept.

Music..
I bought a couple used CDs lately...Saigon Kick "The Lizard" and Britny Fox "Britny Fox." Britny Fox is a hair band, but Saigon Kick is kind of its own genre...they came about during the transition to grunge in the 90s, so they're not grunge, but they're not glam metal either. More like a heavier version of Candlebox. I also got Rush "Chronicles" and the first three Queensryche albums off BMG. Rush is awesome...the drummer is so precise and the drumming is so clear. Red Barchetta is a good one to listen to if you want to hear clean drumming. All three of the Queensryche ones are great...they're a progressive metal band from the 80s with deep, rich lyrics and one of the best rock vocalists ever. This band is highly underrated. I don't really listen to the radio much anymore, so I'm not exactly caught up with what's current, although the new stuff from NIN is really good.
