Yeah I know a guy who put a smallblock in his S-10, pretty cool, but I've always been a fan of the old 4.3. We have a fullsize here that's been here since birth (at the dealer), it was a parts delivery truck and then a lot truck. To say it's been abused in it's 13 years of service would be an understatement but it's still going strong at 300,000 miles. I'll bet though that to find a '93 or older S-10 p/u with the 4.3 will be difficult to say the least. At least without searching the whole country and possibly driving hundreds of miles to get it. Nice trucks though for sure.

I actually thought about that, he wouldn't mind either I don't think, although we would probably argue as to the year. I would like an old body style like say a '94 maybe, that was still the square body wasn't it? It the TBI 4.3. Yeah, baby!! LOL He would want an Extreme, lol, good luck.

What the eff is wrong with GM?
- New Car, need help deciding.
If you just want a cheap communter that gets good mileage, I'd go for the Aveo. All the customers we have that own them, love them. Just like the fanatical Metro owners. They're not bad little cars. The Colorado is kinda boring and slow. The Silverado is a rough ridin sumbitch. LOL The Cobalt is fine, but you could get more options on the Aveo to make the commute a little nicer.- Attention blackviper
WOW!! Go BV!!- Leaving for a little side work trip, try not to miss me to much!
I'll miss you.- Just curious?
Yeah I noticed that. Some friends of mine are saving to move there so they can get married. We're wanting to move to maybe North Carolina or somewhere on the eastern coast after the kiddo is grown up and on his own.- Just curious?
Didn't think about the GM presence in the north, makes sense. And you're from the City?! So cool, I guess we are kind of spread all over. I love this forum, so glad I found you guys.- Sons first car
I would love to, but the old man would never drive to PA for a Cutty when there are probably hundreds of them around here. With no rust here, there are old cars aplenty!! The only problem with cars here is the sun damage, dried out interiors.- Sons first car
I'm not too worried about gas, it's a small town so none of us travel very far from home. The truck is the most practical, but he does want the 4x4 because of the wheels they used and the way it sits, he doesn't like the 2 wheel drives as much. Spoiled I know, but I wanna like what he gets too. Rust isn't an issue here, nothing rusts here. The ability to work on, and th eprice of parts keeps me in the GM's, but I have a bunch of import hook ups so I'm still not sure. The Honda scares me in terms of him getting in an accident. His daddy doesn't want him to get a 4x4. The Cutlass or Monte or whatever would be great because we have no inspections here, so the cat, smog pump, electronic advance and the elec carb all go immediately. My last 5 Cutlasses looked like 60's models under the hood. If not for the smogger heads they would have been totally like 60's models under the hood. So many reasons to do all of them.- Just curious?
Cool and isn't PCS from Texas origianlly? So i'm not the only southerner here. :AH-HA_wink:- Sons first car
Very true. I'm kinda leaning that way too. I've always wanted that body style truck anyway, and now that we traded the Avalanche we don't have a truck.- Sons first car
The story behind the choices... He has flip-flopped multiple times on what he wants. The choices are all ones he has mentioned. The truck was first choice, it's the beauty of the truck plus the stance of the 4x4 and the 6-bolt rims that were on the 4x4. My problem is the 4x4 part is useless in Oklahoma and the maintenance of a 4x4, plus here these trucks are still going for a premium, from $9-$12,000, depending on condition. I don't want one thats too rough. The civic because the ricer thing hasn't worn off here yet. All his buddies are running around in these damn things, but they're damn expensive for the same reasons. Anywhere from $3000 for one that hasn't been touched to $11,000 for one that has been. The 70's "muscle" car, now I'm not gonna get him a nice one or a big block, just a small block that runs, doesn't have to be pretty. Maybe a Nova, or an old Cutty or a Skylark or something like that. My problem here is not working on it, but the potential for him ruining it and taking one more of these babies off the road. The 80's intermediate is mostly for me because this is where my heart lies. Beautiful, easy to find, easy to work on, and comfy. I'm most against the Civic because I want him in a full frame vehicle for safety reasons. The truck has all the best reasons, abs, air bags and a full frame. Not sure which of these would be the highest cost to insure. What do you guys think? I still have a while, he won't be 16 till Fall, and he still has to take drivers ed.- Just curious?
It seems that most everyone on this forum is from up North and East. Doesn't seem to be alot of you from the midwest or western half of the states. Am I wrong in that assumption? If not, why do you think so many are from the eastern half and the northern states? Strange?- Project Mothertruck
So much fun!! I'm excited to see more pics. It's cool to see somebody doing one of these old big ass trucks, kinda tired of seeing all the perfect shortwide regular cabs running around. At least this truck could actually be useful and hold more butts besides just being pretty.- What Are You Listening To?

Here's the latest one, with my dumb ol' baby and my fakey Mac thing going on.- car runs slow in cold weather
Could just be a tied tranny. My '07 Avalanche didn't want ot move or shift when it was really cold first thing in the morning, and it had a lifter knock on startup too, so did our '04 Silverado. It's probably just worn out and the cold is so hard on them.- Stalling Problems
Just a thought, but you said the oil light came on. On a lot of GM's the oil light is tied to the fuel pump, if it reads low oil pressure, it kills the pump to save the engine. Maybe just a oil sender going out, or just a twitch that one time.- For the Gamers....
We still have our big one, it lasted 6 years, then the disc read error thing, we fixed the laser but it only lasted a few weeks. We finally went and bought the new slim one and the laser went out after 4 months, I sent it in under warranty and the reman junk they sent back had the sauders broken where the ac adapter plugs in, so I gave up. They are both in a closet collecting dust. I've thought about trying to find someone in town who could fix my old one but the new one can kiss my ass. lol- 1984 Cutlass on eBay -- 20K miles
I think I just made panty puddin'!!!! :rotflmao:- Are you a BI family?
Currently have a Nissan and a Ford. The Taurus was because it was a super cheap low mileage turd for my hubby to rack the miles on, he drives 100 miles a day. Mine was a possible midlife crisis purchase. :AH-HA_wink: We've had various Fords and Mopars during our broke years when we were a young struggling married couple. We've had 7 Cutlass Supremes over the last 16 years. Mom has a Cavalier, brother has a Cobalt. Stepmom has a Wrangler, Dad has an '06 Sierra, Mother-in-law has a Kia, I think, LOL Father-in-law has a Ram 1500, brother-in-law has an F-150, sister-in-law has an Infiniti FX. Until the Nissan and the Kia, both sides of the family have always driven domestics with the exception of a couple of Vdubs years ago. It took a long time for me to do an import, but I wanted something different, waiting for all the great changes GM has to made in quality and appearence to bring up the resale value on our cars so I can switch back to my true love. It's really weird not having a GM in he driveway. I must admit though, being a devout till death Oldsmobile fanatic, I've been struggling with my loyalty since they killed Olds. My next choice would be Buick, but the Lucerne is a little out of my price range. I must also admit that I have always been a fan of Ford, I love their trucks, always have. They would always be my second choice next to GM. I will never own a Chrysler product. The only ones I have owned were because of price, a running '82 D150 with V8 and air for $200. It was a friend of the family that hooked us up, and a '74 Duster we got for $75 that we stuffed a bigblock in just for fun. I wanted another Cutlass, maybe later. I'm waiting for my beautiful mid-80's babies to become more collectable so resto parts, especially interior parts are more readily available. I noticed Year One I think picked up some 80's Buick GN resto parts so maybe thats a good sign. Ok I'm rambling.- Car Faces...
- 4.3L "Baby LT1" V8
Oddly enough I've actually seen quite a few of them, we have several customers with old Caprices and all of them have the 4.3. I remember the first time I had to look up parts on one and was confused by the 4.3 with the engine code W, because I'm so used to looking up parts on the Vortec 4.3 V6 with engine code W. - New Car, need help deciding.
