Sorta... if a company consistently invests in projects that give them relatively poor return on their money, their capital is tied up and they will be in worse condition when times are bad. This holds true even if ALL of their projects were profitable (just not that profitable).

What do you mean treatment? A company can do that if it wants, I just doubt ole Fritz has the kinda cash to pay all the taxes on it though. Now the shareholders may be pissed and sue however. But really, this is the option GM should have pursued from the beginning instead of seeking government aid.

They could always pay out the profitible parts of GM as a dividend to the new CEO. The CEO can then resign (& pay a ton in taxes). Then the remaining company can file for Ch 11 (because Ch 7 will be denied for a company of this size) and once Ch 11 fails, they will go to Ch 7.

I thought that there were some fruits that were modified to be more like drought resistant or something, but i may just be getting confused between that and hybrid crops/fruits (which are a primitive genetic modification). I was also throwing into that category other methods of growing crops that yields higher ... yields... but would not qualify under organic or sustainable. But i have many a friend in the Ag fields who i trust to not lie to me who say that the majority of Organically grown foods is a load of hooey when it comes to quality. That being said, i am 100% for local farmers being able to grow a crop any way they see fit and if people are willing to pay a premium for growing a crop one way then i say let em go for it. But yeah, depending on the crop, and the type of genetic modification (if its merely a hybridization of two different types of crops then who really cares), and the pesticides used, i may want to know of them. As for the ban on victory garden type growing, i am fairly sure that was just the result of a very poorly worded draft of a bill. I am sure that phrase was better defined later to not include such gardens in the unallowable things.

Oh THIS is what your referring to. Yeah another thing that came out of this topic is that some in congress want to ban all food growing that the government cannot monitor (as in if you have a victory garden your a criminal). This is what the real problem is. And as far as genetically modified goes, were gonna need a large scale war or a ravaging disease or something to keep the population down so we can grow the old fashion way.

Well amongst the learned, the only argument surrounding marriage is - is it the purpose of government to even recognize it? IMO, all the government should do is be able to offer "contracts" designating who will take care of them medically and whatnot, as Olds pointed out as a massive drawback to not being able to be married. However, the government should have no responsibility other then that, they should not be able to discriminate amongst the married and the non-married for ANY purpose.

Let us also not forget that SUVs were designed and built in order to get around CAFE. So theoretically we may never have moved away from wagons to SUVs if CAFE was not around. So while we may have had somewhat less than efficient cars running about, they sure as heck woulda gotten better mileage than the SUVs.

Oh really? Yeah I'm sure gas companies are just gonna keep gas prices low because people aren't buying as much. I am also just as sure that the oil producing countries of this world will maintain current oil output increases if everyone is using less oil. In the meantime lets burden our automakers even more in a time when they do not need this added burden.

Silly silly silly. When gas prices get back up to big numbers the consumer will simply demand higher fuel mileage vehicles and automaker fuel efficiency will rise in accordance.

My car recommends premium, that being said i have put in regular grade gas ranging from Arco to Shell to Costco It drinks it all with no problems.

You will see a return of manufacturing to North America. Fuel prices will undoubtedly go back up and simple logistics will necessitate their return.
