  1. Over 90% of the parts for the Kentucky plant (Camry and related vehicles) are built less than one days drive from the factory. I think that means mostly Ohio, Indiana, etc. Another 5% of the parts cme from long term suppliers in California. Another point is that Toyota builds a larger percentage of its parts in house than do most other manufacturers. Furthermore, you know Chrysler imports the most of? Want to know how to get a job at Chrysler? Just put on the Toyota polo shirt and there isn't enough Chrysler can do for you.
  2. It could be argued that the problem is just the opposite. That is, Toyota pressures its suppliers and GM is the pussy cat. In the area of logistics new Toyota suppliers are often shocked at what is required of them.
  3. Certainly the third row seating is just off the floor. However, access to the rear seems top notch.

The Patriot seems as tasteful as the compass is distasteful.
  5. And there is two more cubic feet of room in the Outlook!
  6. Since GM's market share is just a little south of 25%, it must be that everyone that considers a GM car buys it.
  7. Not only doesn't the consumer care, but niether does the "street". I was listening to a wall street report for the week that just ended. It was all roses. No mention of this situation. In my opinion, no mention of the true state of the economy either. We are into a very strange era in history. There are such big economic changes occuring that the demise of GM, Delphi, and the UAW won't even register on our minds.

So how many times did you watch "Brokeback Mountain"?
  9. Not all that closed really. Until a month ago how many of these Japanesse and Korean car manuacturers did GM and Ford own. The third largest selling Japanesse name plate in North America is actually French.
  10. The separation of powers of the three branches of overnment, as set forth in the constitiution, etc., say nothing about differentiating via the seriousness of the situation. Also the notion that the president is involved in internal affairs only is so totaly wrong as to be comical. The cheers and gears web site is a happier sainer place when we all limit our conversations to the quality of plastic dashboard pieces.

Isn't that without air conditioning and power anything, unlike the Caliber?

I assume that it is to remind one of the fender of this Jeep http://www.drivein24.ch/fotoauto/Jeep/Jeep...J7%20Laredo.jpg some silmilarity, but of course not as "real" and not as pleasing.
  13. http://www.saturn.com/saturn/vehicles/ionq...hotoGallery.jsp here is room for your surboard, and on star to unlick your doors when you leave the keys inside for saftey, 50% more torgue, etc.
  14. The fire insurance on a car does not cover the cause of the fire. If the insurance comany determines(guesses, accuses, etc) that the cause of the fire was the engine, then the cost of a new engine will be deducted from the used blue book value of the car. By the time they are done with you, there isn't enough money left to buy a huffy bicycle.

A few unrelated observations 1. an increased fuel tax would most hurt the trucking industry followed by the poorest ($) drivers in society who are least able to afford the increase. Removing Cafe and raising fuel taxes would mean the wealthiest in society would use more fuel and the poorest in society would pay more. I am not saying we shouldn't do it. I am just saying there are serious consequences for all these changes. 2. Why do people buy vehicles over 10,000GVW? They do it for their precious 2 weeks vacations each year. Again I am not saying its right or wrong, it just is. I heard a fleet expert on the radio some time ago. It was his contention that any feature/function that you use less than 10% of the time should be rented instead of purchased. 3. I am of the opinion that the most painless way to lower national fuel consumption is for individuals to purchase/rent multiple sizes of vehicles and use the the smallest appropiate vehicle for the job at hand. I used to do this but in the last 20 years auto insurance and state vehicle taxes have become repressive. Why should the f@#king insurance companies charge liability insurance for more than one vehicle/household driver at a time. Likewise, the state should charge a minimal fee for additional vehicles registered to a household.
  16. If Delphi is Toyota's third largest supplier, wouldn't they be as adversly effected by a strike of Delphi as GM. Would they be able to outsouce to Japan or elsewhere faster than GM? Would Toyota buy Dephi to maintain production? Comments?

No direct proof, it's just standrd operating procedure for very poor selling vehicles like the ridgeline, Aztek, and Echo. We will see in about a year when the dealers get them back form lease. As far as the bashing comments about Toyota (mostly) and Honda (some), I agree some of the comments are way over the top.
  18. haypops replied to FUTURE_OF_GM's topic in Honda
It's fine to have a hoby aspiring to a Honda, but its too much when you come here and blow barbeque flavored particulate matter (smoke) up our collective anus. The ridgeline is selling for 4-5K less than the similar pilot and they have to throw in 4 wheel drive too. Most of these sales are subveted leases to Honda employees.
  19. The HHR is 65.2 " tall while the VIBE is just 62.2 ".
  20. I think you are refering to Kilts.

Ahh the Rothchields. That IS code speak for us hook nosed Jews. Pity! It would make sense for a Buick salesman to appreciate Jews as Buick is our kind of car.
  23. haypops replied to a post in a topic in General Motors
This is the third time I have made this charge against you. This is your first denial. I will assume you didn't read my other posts which is entirely possible. I appreciate the denial; it is important to me personally. By the way did you blame international bankers or did you specify the Rothchields specifically.
  24. haypops replied to a post in a topic in General Motors
Interesting! You blame GM's troubles on the WASPs (White Anglo Saxon Protestants) and BuickMan blames the Jews. I guess that leaves the Inuits. Any one want to blame it on them? What if a thoughtful analysis showed that GM was better managed than either Ford or Chrylser? Would that let Wagoneer off the hook for you people? What if ten years from now Toyota's work force had aged enough that their legacy/medical costs were higher than GMs?
