Yes, they're getting there. They are very competitive with leases but, that's not owning anything. The Model Y and X5 are pretty far apart, the X5 starting about 20k more before the 7500 rebate on the Model Y. The X3 even starts about 5k more than the Model Y, again before the 7500 rebate. The Model Y seems extremely competitively priced versus luxury brands.

It doesn't seem any riskier of a placement than an EV9, whose headlight and LED run through the bumper cover, as well.

I watch a ton of shows and follow quite a few YouTubers, but it's because I have about 80 minutes a day on a bus to and from work.

This post is about Super Dutys. They will have gasoline V8's in these for a while yet. I genuinely cannot see there not being a gasoline SD/HD in only 10 years from now. It will be competitive in 10 years. The low strung, workhorse engines, from all three of these companies, don't go out of style in 10 years. They keep them around for a while. The 6.2 that was previously in the SD had a 13-year run. I'm sure the Ram 6.4 has probably already been around for 20 years with minor revisions. I believe GM just recently released an all-new 6.6 gasser in the past 2 years. GM doesn't have a replacement for their V8s in the 1500's yet. Obviously, Ford and Ram already have engines that outperform their V8s, but GM doesn't. The 2.7 is a good engine, but it's not a V8 replacement.

They will absolutely have a gasoline V8 in the Super Duties in 2030. They're both brand new like a year or two ago. They could leave them untouched, in this segment, and ride them out until 2035, easily. The old 6.2 was built for the SDs until 2022, when it was replaced by the 6.8 pushrod v8, which was in addition to the 7.3. The V8's in the Super Duty are not based off the 5.0. They're both pushrod V8's, 6.8L & 7.3L. The SDs are the only application for this pair of engines.

Averaging 15-20MPH sounds more like stop and go rather than creeping along. Averaging that sounds more like traveling between 30-10MPH, plenty of opportunities for regen. It's certainly slow but not so slow that an ICE is just idling along at 5-10mph. Regardless, averaging 15-20mph sounds pretty ideal for an electric vehicle.

If it's traffic congestion, you should actually be getting more than a highway/city average rating, A/C or not. That's one of the biggest advantages of an EV, their incredible city ratings as they're constantly recouping energy decelerating or traveling at speeds where drag from windspeed is next to zero.

Yep. they're just awful all-around. It isn't like the sedans who just have a nasty grille section. These are more of a mess from bumper to bumper, IMO. Nobody with a plug-in hybrid really cares about charging speeds. They're only using this because it's free to them. Level 2 is more than enough for any plug-in hybrid (well, the Ram REV or whatever may be a different story, but it's not out yet). 30 miles of range is plenty. Realistically, anything more than that has too heavy of a battery and may as well just be a full EV as you lose efficiency with either wasted battery weight or wasted engine/transmission weight.

This reminds me, @Drew Dowdell, is there anything left of the Rivian/Ford relationship? Did that just muster out or are they still partnering for something?

They're ugly things but they go like stink. 30 miles of electric range isn't too shabby for something with 644hp.

Damn, sorry about that. I've been job hunting this whole year, fairly passively. But I was recently offered a team lead position, but I have to pass a few tests, so I'm studying for those. I've had a bunch of phone interviews and a few actual interviews (Anheuser-Busch, Boeing, and Worldwide Technology). Now that I've been offered the Team Lead position, I've stopped looking. I mostly just feel like I'm more valuable and "should" be making more money. With them offering this, I definitely feel like they know I can handle it and want me around.

I haven't actually done anything about it but we have plenty of power and the electric box is mounted on an exterior wall and I'm sure it would be as simple as running wire through the wall and mounting a charger outside. We still don't have a garage so I'm a little iffy if I want anything electric until that's done, so it can be inside. I know they make exterior chargers, but I'd just feel better if it was inside. Yaaay, public transit! I take a bus every day to STL. I drive 1 mile to the bus and the bus does the remaining 29 miles. I did the math a couple years ago and I think in just fuel, I saved like 15k in the 7 or 8 years I had been here. Tomorrow will actually be my 10-year anniversary at my company. I'm sure my savings are around 20k in gasoline alone, let alone maintenance and tires.

Hahaha well our first was due Jan 5th and she was 2.5 weeks early. Ehhhh I...just...don't want a minivan... I wouldn't mind us having one for the overall utility and convenience, but I don't think I want to drive one of those every day. But, who knows what I'll think in a year or two when I have two kids running around and approaching school and activities-age. Part of that is why I want a Lightning. I don't want a $100 gasoline bill per week or thereabouts. If the hybrid *actually* gets its 23/23 rating, then that's about my lifetime MKC average anyway (22.6mpg over 52,234 miles of ownership). Our bulk orders will be filled like that anyway for things like 2x4s, drywall, insulation. We have a local lumberyard that delivered for free in the past, although I doubt it's free now, because we were only like 2 miles from them. I do believe there's a U-haul dealership in town but if I'm doing that, I'm just borrowing my dad's Taco. He's told me not to buy a truck because I can use his anytime. So there is that. He genuinely does not mind me borrowing it any time. The DOHC is another ~60hp/50tq over the SOHC one. I believe in the Mustang GT it was 240hp/270tq and in the Mach 1 it was 305hp/320tq. I LOVE how the ford 4.6's sound. I can't get enough of how they sound.

Yeah, it doesn't exactly make sense... Well, we have a 2nd little one on the way this winter (due date is the same birthday of our 1st, Hahaha). It's impressive how quickly space gets eaten up with kid(s) and their sht. The child seat is already just brushing up against the back of my driver's seat and I'm not tall. I'm 5'8". Stuff is just bulky and there will be two. I'm feeling the need for more space. Our place is still far from being completed, hence wanting a truck. My dad lets me borrow his Taco anytime I want, but it's pretty inconvenient. I've considered a newer hybrid F150 as well. That's up there with the Lightning. I really don't want to be paying for a vehicle that's also a whole lot less efficient and the hybrid F150 supposedly averages about what I get now. The Aviator will be significantly worse, but it'll be cheaper and larger so..it's kind of whatever. I really just like the interior space of a full-size truck. I've looked at Avalanches, like yours, but they're pretty pricey for a decent one. That kind of falls into the category of "if I'm getting a loan, I kind of just want to REALLY want the vehicle". Yeah, those little pockets are awesome! The wife's SVR has those, actually. I love'em.

I'm not wanting an XLT Standard Range though. I want a Lariat Extended Range. That's also only 10,500 miles/yr. I'd need at least 12,000/yr. Yeah, it's just not what I want. I want a Lightning, but I wouldn't settle for one I don't really want. I'd need more miles than that lease anyway, so the price would go up from there. I'd need at least 12,000/yr.

That's kind of how I got here, actually. What I REALLY want is an F150 Lightning Lariat w/ the bigger battery. Then for 2024 they added a heat pump, and now I kind of feel like I "need" that, as well. I can't afford a 60-65k truck (with all of the incentives and rebates). That had me looking and thinking about other options. What's something cheaper and larger than my MKC that I'd enjoy for a couple years? I want a truck and don't just want some appliance Traverse, Explorer, highlander for like 20k used. I JUST (this week) paid off my MKC. I'm in no rush to get another loan on something I don't REALLY want.

If you were to pull the trigger on something like this, what gen would you actually WANT? I know finding what works out and is available for you isn't always 100% what one would want, but which gen do you desire the most? I do have a soft spot for a full-size sedan. Just that quiet luxury in a barge is super cool to me. When an S Class or a CT6 drives by, I always get a little excited seeing people buy those still. Autotrader has zero within 100 miles of me... There are some on FB Marketplace but I don't really want to joy ride somebody's vehicle with almost no intent to purchase. The closest one on AutoTrader is 204 miles from me... but It's actually a really good example and one I wouldn't mind possibly buying. Clean ones are soooo hard to find. The only few clean ones are 4 hours away. I need to find a way to at least drive one somewhere around me before committing to a trip like that to buy one. Yeah, it just sucks that just finding them are extremely difficult. It seems like half of the ones on FB Marketplace have issues and the ones that don't have over 150-200k miles on them. I know I'd be buying something with quite a few miles on it already, but I don't exactly want to start over 150k. Wireless CarPlay would be perfect in something like this, because I could keep the radio hidden away and it would just always have that clean look to it, because the radio hides away.

Ya know what I've been wanting recently? I have been wanting an 03-05 Lincoln Aviator. I want the size, I want a V8, I LOVE the sound of the Ford modular 4.6L V8. I love that there are a few touches of modern luxury still like cooled seats... and I can't think of what else, but I thought there were a couple things that were neat. It has the split opening rear hatch, so the glass just opens to throw smaller things in the back. The DOHC 4.6 is the version from the Mach 1(with a slightly different tune), as opposed to the 4.6 that's in the Explorer and F150. It's 302hp and 300tq compared to the Navigator's 5.4V8 making 300hp and 355tq. interesting outputs between the two vehicles. I really like how they look still, but finding one that's not in scrapyard condition is proving pretty much impossible. they only made the dang thing for 3 years
