LA Auto Show: 2017 Lincoln MKZ: Comments
I'm picking up what you're laying down I guess I just see the new fascia being tacked onto the old profile and think of the old Cadillac DTS, which suffered a similar fate front and rear when Art and Science was really beginning to take off. The difference here is that the Lincoln brand has now burned through three design languages in under four years, and it's beginning to whiff of desperation.

LA Auto Show: 2017 Lincoln MKZ: Comments
Who would have thought that an MKZ can upstage so many in the luxury segment, with minor changes. As much as I like the new front style, it really is the rear most angle that just stands out unlike anything else..... and even the profile remains one of the better ones in the mid luxury market place. It does have a nice profile to it. That is one of the things I have always liked about it. My wife loves them and wants one so bad she can't stand it. Told her CPO is going to be our route short of some unexpected lotto winnings. The problem is that the profile no longer jives style wise with the fascia.

Bob Lutz: Blame Ferdinand Piech For VW's Diesel Woes
Confession: I have an actual paper copy of "Car Guys vs. Bean Counters" by Bob. You can't have a CEO like Ferdinand Piech. You just can't. Overachieving is one thing, but doing it purely by fear is a recipe for the minions to do anything to keep their jobs. A corporate culture will inevitably find its identity with the person in the Big Chair. If that person is a tyrant, tyranny will drive anything it sets its hand to. If that person is a hater, that company will be driven by insecurity and a sense of inferiority. If that person is a delegator, you have hope... as long as your minions are really good.

LA Auto Show: 2017 Lincoln MKZ: Comments
The car is a pastiche. It is the result of a design team getting together, cherry-picking winning design elements from various carmakers, and throwing those elements against the wall to see what sticks.

Bob Lutz: Blame Ferdinand Piech For VW's Diesel Woes
Maximum Bob points cannon at Herr Piech, spares no gunpowder: "that's the way [Piech] ran everything. It's what I call a reign of terror and a culture where performance was driven by fear and intimidation. He just says, 'You will sell diesels in the U.S., and you will not fail. Do it, or I'll find somebody who will.' The guy was absolutely brutal." More at the link: http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a27197/bob-lutz-vw-diesel-fiasco/

The Dresden plant was a monument to Ferdinand Piech's ego, as was the car that is produced there.

Cadillac Confirms 335HP/432 lb-ft 2.0L Plug-in Hybrid For CT6
The ELR was one of the most beautiful FWD cars ever built, and I recall the interior being a nice place to be as well. But the chassis tech and driveline weren't really what Cadillac needed. Too bad, because as I said, the car was a looker.

Afterthoughts: LA Auto Show Report Card
I share your concerns about the Giulia, albeit to a lesser extent. I think the car is probably further along than they're letting on as far as planning, but the development dollars aren't there. Also, I read that the QF gets its power running 35 pounds of boost. That's exciting for many reasons, not all of them necessarily good.

Electrical code may require you to put GFI-equipped receptacles in your outdoor boxes. I know they do up here.

Cadillac Confirms 335HP/432 lb-ft 2.0L Plug-in Hybrid For CT6
I wouldn't be too worried about GM. They had the better idea in the truck segment by introducing a smaller one, and they definitely had the better idea as far as sport coupes. Small, efficient sedans? Not an issue.

Good thing the Malibu is coming then.

Cadillac Confirms 335HP/432 lb-ft 2.0L Plug-in Hybrid For CT6
It will do fine in establishing a beachhead in the segment. The only other cars of similar capability appear to have less sophisticated electric drive options, which makes sense considering GM's long experience with the technology.

"This Car Is Only $46,000?" R&T Roads & Tracks '16 Camaro SS2
Sounds like R&T are already looking past their award ceremony to something more promising. Then again, given the hardware the Camaro lineup's been getting I can't say as I blame them.

Nice to know the entire lineup nabbed 10Best. Some automakers still do awful six-banger pony cars.

CT6 Build & Price: Configurator is Up
To be fair there aren't many ways to go wrong with a car like this. I would imagine that many/most of them will be pimped-out Platinums, because that's how the segment tends to go. But it's pretty cool to know that for the low-to-mid 70s American you can have a properly large, quick, and luxurious Cadillac sedan that has equal or superior chassis engineering than he Germans.

"This Car Is Only $46,000?" R&T Roads & Tracks '16 Camaro SS2
"I'm already convinced Chevy has pulled ahead [of the Mustang]. True, the 2016 Mustang GT350R just won our Road & Track Performance Car of the Year testing, so we'll have to wait and see how the Z28 stands up when it arrives. But in terms of the overall package, there's more to consider than just performance." "Not too long ago, I had a new Mustang for another lengthy road trip. At one point, outside of Pittsburgh, a last-gen Camaro SS pulled up next to me and the driver revved his engine. I looked over and just smiled. I didn't take the bait... but as he sped off, I took solace in the fact that I was in the better overall car. Not anymore." CT6 Build & Price: Configurator is Up
I would just go crazy and checkmark all the boxes. So rather than do that I decided to let Car and Driver spec it out the way they would have it and lo and behold, they didn't do too bad: http://blog.caranddriver.com/how-wed-spec-it-our-2016-cadillac-ct6-a-hot-rod-with-a-sound-system/ About the only thing I'd still try and avoid is the gonzo sunroof. But since it appears to be a part of an option package I guess I'll take it. Still, you figure that eliminating it could probably save you some weight up high and a grand or so...

Car and Driver 10Best Cars: Chevrolet Camaro
I was gonna upvote that last comment but they are developing that 10-speed automatic. Right now I'd say Chevy guys are pretty content with the status quo. Ford has made their choices on how to make, market, and sell their stuff, and now it's on them to execute that strategy as best as they can.
