Two for One
highlights GM's dilemma. how to keep 6+brands running on as few platforms as possible. prob can't make a business case to have a fwd platform larger than ep2

G8 Teaser
I'm gonna give you some conquest sales as some folks will buy a V8 Pontiac over a 325. but I guarantee that BMW is not losing any sleep about the possibility of potential 335 or 5Series buyers moving to a G8. and people who can't afford a BMW don't count, because they weren't going to buy one in the first place.

G8 Teaser
how do you know it competes well with the 5-Series? do you actually believe that many 5series shoppers are going into a Pontiac dealer to shop? you have the CTS on your list of 'favorite cheap sedans'??????

Can GM make hip happen?
GM is NOT a brand. end of story. procter and gamble is not a brand. Buick is a brand. Cadillac is a brand. colgate is a brand. tide is a brand. Ritz crackers are a brand. (malibu was not a brand, impala is not a brand, grand am is not a brand)

Can GM make hip happen?
GM sucks at marketing. and GM sucks at brand management. i think they are going to opposite extremes. the soap sellers wanted to make every car a brand(malibu, impala, cavalier etc). now laneve wants to make GM a brand (hence little invisible GM stickers on every car.)

DTS has still got it
or just use a metric conversion calculator

Hold on, new Impala fans
what happened to last year's concept with 1960's design cues?

DTS has still got it
reg - get off that kick. if today's DTS was RWD, sales would not decrease due to a lack of AWD. those gray hairs don't go out in a blizzard.
-
DTS has still got it
don't kid yourself. these people don't care if it's FWD, RWD, AWD or one wheel drive. they buy it because it is a Cadillac. you could convert it to RWD tonite and sales wouldn't miss a beat. in fact, they might increase as people who avoid the stigma of FWD might buy one.

DTS has still got it
do we have any factual information re: zeta wheelbase range? ie. is a SWB and a LWB zeta possible? if so, what are the limits?

Fullsize P/U Comparison: Toyota vs. Chevy vs. Nissan
interesting. proof will be in the annual sales. i'm not convinced loyal chevy owners will be leaving in droves to buy a new Tundra. now, if I were Nissan........ I'd be worried.

DTS has still got it
well that's it for now. who knows what the future brings.

DTS has still got it
platforms aside, Cadillac gets a true RWD 3series competitor (not the Ep. BLS). The FWD DTS goes away. And Cadillac gets to move upmarket to compete with the LS, S and 7.
-
DTS has still got it
you don't think Cadillac will take the next step to truly compete with the S and 7? or do you think the merged sigma2 can go head to head with them?
-
DTS has still got it
as credible a car as the DTS is, get used to the fact that this is it's farewell tour in it's current FWD format. that luxury market that Cadillac aspires to lead does not favor FWD. you can argue all you want about the pros/cons of FWD, but the market has spoken. and for Cadillac to be truly world class, it has to adjust. my thoughts- look for the CTS to continue to climb the luxury food chain and compete with the 530i etc. look for a new smaller rwd platform for the USA version of the BLS/BTS (or whatever they call it) look for the STS and DTS to merge onto zeta, thus differentiating that car from the STS look for a new platform to come out in the next decade for a premium luxury car for cadillac to truly go head to head with the SClass and 7Series etc

Tonawanda Gets $300 Million To Build GM's Newest Engine
i think you are safe for now. there is no way the UV8 will be ready in time for the CTS-V. i'm expecting the LSx to be in the CTS-V pushing 500hp.

C&D gave it 6th place. Here's a quote from the latest Road&Track (they were comparing G35, TL and IS350 Jim Hall, Senior Editor "This Japanese trio is very good, but they stil have a little ways to go to unseat the sports-sedan kings, the BMW 3 Series and Cadillac CTS. The Acura held up well against it's newer rivals. And the Infiniti has potential, but its steering is too heavy and the engine lacks grunt. Of the three, the Lexus is my choice, offering outstanding power, a suprisingly sporty chasis and decent steering feel. Let's hope that Lexus goes to bat for enthusiasts and adds a manual transmission for future models." I, personally, eagerly await the next round of magazine cmparison tests with the 2008 CTS. Curious to see how the rags rate it, and to listen to the never ending banter hear on the boards.

2008 Cadillac CTS: NAIAS pictures and video
ya. a bit overkill! but someone who posts here oftern wasn't going to make it to NAIAS so I took lots of pictures. (i've given up taking my camera normally as it takes too long and pictures don't turn out as well as you think!) see if you can get in the trunk of the CTS in Toronto!!!

2008 Cadillac CTS: Image Gallery
i'm thinking the press release is a little more believeable than the guy GM hired for his presentation skills to work the floor. e-brake is an issue. the only other thing wrong with this car is that damn GM badge on the side. yuck. LaNeve needs to give his head a shake

2008 Cadillac CTS: Image Gallery
quite frankly, the only think that can save STS sales in 2008 is to bring over the SLS(longer wheelbase, new interior) until a new model rolls out. I mean really, who is gonna get a 2008 STS with 320hp NS when they can get a 2008 CTS with 300hp, with a nicer interior for less money?

2008 Cadillac CTS: NAIAS pictures and video
Nope. Expensive plastic I'd say. It's not likley metal as would be a bit too heavy! It looked pretty good. No getting in one! The silver one was just roped off. You could lean in and look inside, and could touch the car, but it was locked. The red one was on a revolving pedestal. you need to see it in person. it's not apologetic. it's less 'aggressive' and more 'elegant'. where the '02 CTS had some werid angles to it, this one does not. IMO they have addressed the original shortcomings and turned it into a beauty. see it in person first! biggest problem was the expectations that people had due to the hype. once you get past that, it's all good. (see evok's post in the other thread for a good summary) i didn't listen to the 'presentation', but my experience is that those folks don't know jack about the car and just regurgitate the stuff they memorized. in case you missed my post in the NAIAS thread here are my pics of the CTS and a couple of the Camaro. (note, I have not even had a chance to view all the pics myself nor delete some of the crap ones.) http://s133.photobucket.com/albums/q78/cien_2007/ the car is awesome and I can't wait for the Toronto show so I can go stare at it all over again!

2.5 Days In the Pink Army
97regalGS replied to Chris_Doane's post in a topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)tx for posting. thankfully, only those of us fanatics will have been let down by the expectations and hype of the CTS. the rest of the buying public were not sitting around for months waiting for it. having said that, it is awesome!!!
