Motor Trend 2006 Car of the Year
now i get it.....it won because it satsifues the ricers (si) and the greenies (hybrid). i guess the only thing you need to do now to win COTY is to have vtec and also offer a hybrid.

Nissan sales slump short-lived: Ghosn
but i did almost buy a quest because its a fabulous drive for a minivan...until i got spooked by the freak dash, stupid dvd location, lack of interior function with regards to user controls and cupholders and such, and lastly a recall that meant none of the vans could be dleivered to customers without a minimum month delay. way to do business! between that and all the well publicized quality issues it made me say no to nissan .....for now. i do think their products being rushed to market has made them junky. my buddie's 03 altima, he loved to drive it, but he got sick of a zillion problems with it.

2006 BMW 530xi Touring Wagon
i agree. honestly, this is likely my perfect car. i mean, THE TOP of my list. I'm not crazy on the interior in spots, but cargo room, handling, AWD, stick.....i'll assume the six is fast enough and call it my perfect car.

I like the Cobalt SS a LOT. i drove an Ion redline and had BUCKETS OF FUN doing so. The Cobalt is much nicer than the Ion. If I were single without kid and living on a tight budget I'd likely have one in the driveway.

Malcolm's Chery
chery must have had to add 200pounds more steel to each of its cars so it could get one star in crash test ratings.

asians are allowed to sell bland looking vehicles. the public and press still will not allow it to be ok for domestics to do so. the 500 is developing a cult following but has not hit mass market appeal yet. i do believe the lack of hp and bland styling are to blame. the old folks drawn to this car will not buy it after driving it because it has steering and handling more like a euro car instead of a domestic. they will not like the firm seats, instead they would prefer barcalounger seats. finally, the engine revs well and has a throaty sound, but lacks torque and the lazy feel that the geezers love. whatever marketing points they score with the oldsters on the high seating postion, space, value and conservative style, they lose on everything else. geezers don't like the big console and floor shifter either. however, the 500 is meant to be a boomer car, and aging boomers won't excuse the lack of tire shredding power and the anonymous styling. its reprehensible that Ford did not nail it 100% from the start with this car, however, it doesn't mean the car is total crap. its a pretty good car overall, in spite of its weaknesses. I'd bet the Impala will score higher in comparo tests. For me, the Impala I would have been able to live with (SS) would have cost me much more to get into and does not have an adequate back seat. Ford will fix the problems, hopefully in 12-18 calendar months. We'll see. I will say this, the car is SOLID. Damn thing is WELL BUILT. Its like a brick crap house. The strut tower brace alone looks like an insane street fighting tool. BTWthe 06 impala is selling like gangbusters here......

GMNA to Undergo Major Capacity Reduction
GM makes very good cars, my point the whole time is that there are forces and prejudices that are unfairly causing people to ignore what's great with American cars. I guess that's all i was trying to say. and its gotten to the point where those forces are so bad, its hurting one of our great American economic engines. I just want folks to drive and consider American cars too, and not feel guilty, bad, or inferior if they like them and want to own one. I don't think the public and media should force people into making their decisions for them. that is what I was trying to realte in this topic....'the spin' has gotten out of hand.

Ghosn slams Detroit management
Nissan's resurgence has been grand, but isn't it interesting how it was built around core products all sharing a tremendous v6 engine with premier technology and tremendous execution? Just a thought, imagine if Nissan has put 3400's in its new cars........

What does it mean to buy American?
the article is not nearly as pointed as watching the video. they said NOTHING about the difference to our economy as a whole between an American based company vs. Japanese based.
