Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
The term (bait & switch) was used erroneously in David's post; bait & switch is generally illegal. There's nothing illegal whatsoever about asking/advertising a particular price for a vehicle that differs from a suggested retail price, hence the inaction of the part of 'the State'. The vehicle belongs to the dealer- it is their decision how to price it and the buyer is under zero obligation to purchase a vehicle there. - - - - - There's a completely tangible bottom line here- the final agreed-upon price. Either the breakdown of where all that monies goes is important at every distribution point, or it isn't. ... exactly the same as the dealer. They bought the vehicle from the manufacturer, it's their choice how to price it.

I wonder how folk with huge issues over market adjustments remedy the fact that the OEMs sometimes have $15 or even $20 grand pure profit baked into that "fair" MSRP. ?

I don't see any difference to the consumer RE the circumstances of the fires. OK; contrast the Hyundai mess with the GM ignition switch news proliferation... or is 2014 way too far back in history to remember? And I've given my theory for 'whatever the reason'... have a counter-theory?

WHAT... does that have to do with anything? Are you saying everyone will associate hyundai / kia with engine fires 40 years into the future?

^ Ain't it interesting how that's not a general knowledge/pop culture thing like 'GM ignition switches'?? Know how many Pintos Ford recalled for fire issues (everyone knows about 'exploding Pintos, right??) 1.5 million. You should be able to buy -say- stickers or t-shirts with cartoon, burning hyundais / kias and late night hosts should be using flaming hyundais as a punch line in jokes. Nary a whisper. 'taint no big thing.

The definition of 'bait & switch' is; they'd have to advertise a specific vehicle at a specific price, then once you engage with that dealer asking about that vehicle, it's "unavailable" and they push you towards another, higher-priced vehicle. That's 'bait & switch'. A dealer clearly advertising a vehicle at -say- $10K over the sticker price is NOT 'baiting & switching', that vehicle is right there, available, with the price clearly stated & they'll gladly sell it to you, so there's obviously no scenario requiring 'cracking down'. If you pay it, you agreed to it. Anyone who has a major issue with a market adjustment upward should decline all market adjustments downward, including OEM rebates and dealer money off. Otherwise, that person is denying the OEM their 'fair price' (by the same arbitrary metric). Otherwise it's 2 people doing the same thing; trying to make the best deal for themselves.

It's a foreign manufacturer, not one of those dirty, nasty American brands that steals SO much from the citizenry and "doesn't care", so massive quality issues there get swept under the rug. 'taint no big thing.

Will Competition Destroy Tesla?
According to what I read, hyundai/kia has recalled EIGHT million vehicles for engine failures/fires. Of course, you're not going to see that repeated / remembered by 'journalists'... at all. [unlike the thread posted today by Ninety-Eight Regency...]

We don’t yet have any evidence anyone is making a profit on BEs (Tesla will be a net negative for years and years to come). Keeping IC in production is insurance toward forward survival. Frankly, ‘yearly advancement’ is marketing spin; if the average vehicle on the road is like 12 years old, a 2022 is still 100% viable in 2034 (and 2044). You’re told you ‘need’ power ashtrays and you’re ‘behind the curve’ withput them, but they need you to buy-buy-buy.

Hopefully for them, they'll experience a LOT less motor failure and fires going to BE vs. the massive recalls on their IC motive units.

Gateway is notoriously high-priced. I have no use for either decade of Chevys. On a tangential search, I am likewise shocked to have seen about 10 Vegas selling for asking prices from circa $12K to $19K. In my mind, a Vega should never exceed $1000 even for a mint Cosworth, but; hey.- Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
• Bose shuttered all 119 U.S. stores last year, so dealers must not have been very profitable. • Remaining Bose resellers aren't franchises. * Seemingly... Bose does not 'enforce MSRP' at all, as I see a brand new (randomly chosen) Bose Wave System IV platinum units vary from $640 to $800 after 2 seconds of googling. Multi-line audio retailers are not dependent on a single manufacturer, and their investment in selling said product line is pennies on the dollar. You could put 3 automobiles in a tractor trailer... or 4000 audio components. Auto retailers have a FAR different level of investment.- Item: 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix
Just got back from dropping the engine / pieces off at the engine builder. He has a stellar reputation, did engine work for Bob Glidden for years (Pro-Stock), but he's not the fastest. Still; he seemed stoked to do a stock rebuild rather than super-rare / high-po stuff. Had a factory 440 6-pack block sitting there going back into a numbers-matching MoPar. Said he'll disassemble/evaluated my motor next week, so that's exciting.- Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
.. once again making the dealer model pretty good, financially.- Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
NOW, yes; it’s the seller’s market. Private vehicle sellers are doing the exact same thing, if the very slightly used pickup market is an indicator. They’ll knash their teeth at a dealer upcharge, meanwhile giddily asking $15 grand over original MSRP from 2 years ago, with 25K miles & that much less warranty on it. Maybe the Fed & State gov’t can declare set sale prices for all used vehicles, to prevent market-pricing (and save folk from having to haggle). ?- Beautiful Cars Appreciation Thread
- Buick News: Old is New as GM patents Buick Electra in Canada and the US after Showing the Buick Electra Concept at Shanghai Autoshow
Sure; BE variants of the other Buick models. But is there a thought-out naming proposal going forward, or is it going to be ‘Electra’ and ‘EV2’, ‘EV3’, ‘EV4’ ?? can YOU think of ANY more ‘E’-based ‘electricity’ names for Buick? I believe ‘Energizer’ is taken, BTW. Because ‘Electra’ here is a 1-minute bar-napkin solution with no continuance going forward. Marketing is complex.- Buick News: Old is New as GM patents Buick Electra in Canada and the US after Showing the Buick Electra Concept at Shanghai Autoshow
Cadillac isn’t using obvious ‘electricity’ names, and Chevrolet has numerous heritage nameplates they’ve long invested in to just dump. Is Buick going to use all ‘electricity’ nameplates going forward? What would other ones be? Or will it be 1 ‘electricity’ nameplate and a handful of non-E nameplates? Gotta think longer-term than just the next 6 months / the blatantly obvious. I don’t believe Buick is looking to be a 1-vehicle brand…- Buick News: Old is New as GM patents Buick Electra in Canada and the US after Showing the Buick Electra Concept at Shanghai Autoshow
