GM @ NAIAS '08: Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept
DetroitNut90 replied to !!!TED!!!'s topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)It's perfection from the c-pillar forwards. But...it needs more of a deck; the back looks too stubby. Or lower the rear a bit so that the top of the tail lights line up with the greenhouse.

New Pilot
DetroitNut90 replied to regfootball's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)I'd consider this interior to be a definite downgrade from a Lambda, even if just in terms of styling. That front end is atrocious, too. Honda is capable of making good-looking cars (new Accord, S2000, Civic coupe, Acuras), but their SUVs look bizarre at best.

GM @ NAIAS '08: Cadillac Provoq Concept
DetroitNut90 replied to bostonspider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)It's...interesting. Most obvious flaw in my eyes is the rear looks saggy, but I bet moving the Cadillac badge up over the crease line and the license plate mounting area up some more would take care of that.

Toyota passes Ford in U.S. sales in 2007
Toyota's the only one who's making this a race. I think that by slashing rental fleet sales, GM has finally realized that being No. 1 is nothing more than a title.

Yeah, that sucked.
I’m sorry to hear that, K.C. Them being rude to you anywhere is inexcusable. Over the past year and a half or so, I’ve learned the hard way that family can be an amazing thing, but it can also be a cause for tremendous turmoil and a breeding ground for hate.

Engine question
So today, I'm tooling around in my Intrigue, and I notice the SES light illuminated on the IP. After I park the car and dad got home from work, I hooked it up to our OBD II reader to see if it would return any codes. I got a "P0171 - System too lean (Bank 1)" message. Dad said it's probably because there's a build-up of stuff on my fuel injectors, and handed me a bottle of Pennzoil fuel injector cleaner. But as I'm looking the code up here, it says that my mass airflow sensor could be dirty or faulty. Like I know what or where that is. I asked dad if he knew what that was, and he thinks it's somehow related to the big hose that runs from the air filter box into my intake manifold. So, can I ask: 1) what does this MAF sensor do, where is it located, and is it easy to reach? and 2) could cleaning my fuel injectors help make this go away? (if yes to #2, then here's a part a: the fuel injector cleaner says to add it in when the gas tank is almost empty, then fill the tank up and let it run almost empty again. Would running the car lean for about 2 tanks of gas do any damage to the engine?) Thanks again.

Oh man...that would just be plain vindictive to roll out all those alphanumerics...

And I walked away....
Not necessarily car-related, but when I got home from the Homecoming dance back in September, I definitely knew this feeling very well. However, since this had the 2.7L V6, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over walking away from it.

Aura or Insignia?
Ask Ford how the flip-flop naming scheme's going for them.

A storm's a brewin.....
I'm in. A winter storm advisory comes into effect for the Baltimore-DC area at 3 this afternoon. Freezing rain and high winds tonight and tomorrow. Ice is more likely than snow.

Engine question
We have an AmPro T70063 mechanic's stethoscope, I assume that would work fine as well? And if I'm understanding correctly, I'd place the stethoscopic device on the different reachable parts of the engine that are driven by the belt while it's running and listen in? I may just take you up on that offer, 76CT. Most auto mechanicals puzzle me almost as much as precalculus.

Engine question
It's the 3800 Series II. Any idear how much it would cost to replace (the gasket)? My dad would be able to take care of the labor part of the equation, but he's already been generous enough to absorb the cost of the new hub assembly, tie rod, rear brake pads, an oil filter, inspection fee, and an air filter. I'm worried that the part may be out of my budgetary means if I'm made to buy it.

Engine question
This may potentially be a silly question, but what is the name of the highlighted part of my engine? Because whatever it is, oil is leaking out of it where it attatches to the block. Also, would anyone know what would cause an alternator to make a loud screechy-whirring noise when the engine first starts up? Mine makes a terrible noise, but after the engine's been running for a little while, it quiets down a bit. Dad squirted some WD-40 into it, which also helped quiet the noise, but he thinks I may be due for a replacement. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There's a special feel...
Thanks, y'all. Some more pictures: The world "Oldsmobile" is on this car in one spot: the radio head unit. I decided to change that. Dad took the engine cover off and sprayed some degreaser on the block. It made a tremendous difference (Mom thought my valve covers were made of some sort of armor. ). Inaugural snowfall, probably first snow that the car's seen outside of Pennsylvania. Short story: when getting onto the road today at a spot with a notoriously small merge zone, I got the car up to about 4200 rpm. Maybe it's just because this is the first sedan in my family since our '87 Celebrity EuroSport got totalled and I'm used to heavier vehicles, but the 3800 generates tremendous thrust when asked to. Inferior engine my foot.

Winter Weather Car Spotting
Nissan Pathfinder older Ford medium-duty truck on the Baltimore Beltway hit the concrete wall in the far right lane and spun 180* around, which caused 3 of the four lanes on the outer loop to be shut down.
