Going for broke with the ATS
Hyperv6 can confirm or deny, but I believe the only major difference is that premium is required as opposed to recommended.

A small chance of a big change
You could always go with a Ranger. They're obviously proven, having the same powertrains since 1993. Maybe a 6cyl/stick Dakota too. I'd suggest an S10, but 4cyl models are super weak. Try accelerating onto a highway with a vehicle whose 0-60 time is best measured with a calendar.

A small chance of a big change
Well, I'm regularly pulling down 17.5-18mpg in pure city driving in a 2WD I5 Colorado with traction control. I'm sure a stripped down 4cyl model would do even better.

C&G - Top 10 recently canceled vehicles that should be brought back
OK then - Uplander/Venture. GM never should have left the minivan market, and never should have tried to create four different versions of the same mediocre product. This time around, build one just for Chevy on Lambda or Epsilon II, power it with the HFV6, give it some distinctive style, and watch the Chevy dealer lots fill up with discarded Odysseys, Caravans, and Siennas.

C&G - Top 10 recently canceled vehicles that should be brought back
I'm gonna go with the Fiero, because I know someone else will come up with my other choices. GM just about got it right in 1988, then killed it. Imagine the same car with updated styling and a turbo Ecotec behind the seats for around 25-30K.

New question.
Not a bad price for what it is

Best used cars for ~$10K?
I'm assuming your brother is rather tall like you, Northie so he's probably going to need/want a bigger car. For just basic A to B transportation, I don't think he can go wrong with a current gen Impala with the 3500, or a previous gen Impala with the 3800. A LaCrosse might be a great sleeper option, as they are much less likely to have been abused.

Cadillac is moving down market...
The XTS is a Fritz car that I'd half expect to not see a second generation. I can see it being used as a transition vehicle for Cadillac. Yeah, it's WWD, but I'd expect the blue hairs will turn away from it because of the departure from the DTS's tame styling, possibly setting the stage for a "proper" replacement.

Cadillac is moving down market...
The exception, of course, is Hyundai, which became the best luxury brand in the space-time continuum after selling the Genesis sedan for two model years and the Equus since this summer. I think we ought to wait to see how the ATS turns out before we crucify Cadillac. We've only seen part of the front fascia and left fender.

Troubled 2001 Impala
Come to think of it, the symptoms that LOVEACHEVY describe very well could be the crank position sensor. A friend's car (1st gen Santa Fe) behaved exactly the same way (bucking/hesitation under load at highway speeds, can't make it up hills, no engine codes) and the culprit ended up being the crankhaft position sensor.

Project Mothertruck
Does the crew cab pickup share front and rear doors with the Suburban? If so it might be easier (and possibly cheaper) to look for one of those as a donor vehicle.

Have you voted yet?
Voted. The whole experience took about 10 minutes, mainly because there was no line to speak of and the parking lot was half empty. For the entire day, the voting machine had processed 341 ballots. NYS is in such deep doo-doo, and for all the complaining that I hear, noone seems to weant to do anything about it. Apathy will be our undoing.

I have the leather seats in mine. They're much more comfortable than the base cloth seats, which seemed overly hard.

Looked under the dash of the Tahoe tonight
My father has one of those things. It looks like a bicycle pump with an end that fits over the neck of your radiator, and it has a little pressure gage on it. Kind of like this

Looked under the dash of the Tahoe tonight
Have you done a pressure test on the cooling system with the engine cold? If there's a less-than-perfect seal anywhere, that might force some coolant out, and you'll find where the air is getting in.

Regal Turbo vs. TSX v6 vs. CC 2.0T
Can we please try to get through a single thread about four door cars without mentioning the effing Sonata? Yeah, it's the best car ever, can cure cancer, make Arabs and Israelis go out to dinner together, and improve your sex life, but it still doesn't belong in the same conversation with the CC, TSX, and Regal.
