  4. I really dislike the big fender flares on the Chevy, and there's no reason for that tailgate sculpting. The GMC looks better overall, but the front is a little bland. I can't imagine GM dropping the 2WD regular cab shortbed style. Though the trend is towards bigger and bigger cabs, that configuration still seemed to be pretty popular with the GMT800's. The regular cab long beds are mostly for contractors and fleet use now. I recently drove a 2006 Silverado extended cab, and it felt more spirited than my Crew Cab. I'm sure it's due to having 400 pounds of less weight to haul around. The regular cab loses about another 400 pounds. That's got to be the most fun to drive configuration.
  5. Surely there's some Chinese company that would want to pick them up, now that another Chinese company lays claim to MG.

  8. They look much better than in the previous pictures, but the Silverado would still look a lot better with the Tahoe's front clip. The front of the Silverado looks like an update to the 1994 S-10. As for the two dashboards, I actually prefer the cheaper version, whose layout is very similar to the outgoing truck's. The NAV is higher, and controls are closer to the driver.

  17. As some of you guys may recall, I briefly owned a used 2001 Aurora 4.0 that wasn't properly maintained, so I got rid of it. The car is a great, solid cruiser. The difference in power between the V6 and the V8 is probably not as much as you'd expect, one reason being the V8 model weighs about an extra 200 pounds. The 2001 Aurora received an updated Northstar engine. In my research on the 2001 models, I found that running changes were made during the model year. Oil leaks are fairly common with Northstars, and later model years will be better in this regard as there were continual improvements. I would be nervous about keeping a car with a Northstar or Shortstar for the long haul because they are expensive, complicated engines. Changing an oil pan gasket on a Northstar means taking the engine out.

  19. This car demonstrates that the electric car is still viable. I'm looking forward to Tesla's follow-up sedan, but what I'd really like to see is the lithium ion batteries trickle down into commuter city cars within a few years.
