No offense taken. You're just much more thorough than I was investigating the option package. I stumbled upon while building a 2008, then went looking for a picture, then posted the thread.I was hoping this package would give the two-tone interior from the Z71 package available on the Chevy Tahoe which also eliminates the wood and makes it all brushed aluminum. Also the 2007 Silverado getting 18" wheels with the Z71 package while the Sierra only got 17" also struck me as odd at launch. I'm more a fan of the Z85 suspension than the Z71, so I'm still looking for GMC to offer a "sport" package alternative for the SLE or SLT much like the Denali goes for luxury. What I want is a new Sierra SLT 4x4 X-Cab (Fire Red) with two-tone interior (black with grey inserts) and all aluminum trim, with the 6.0 liter Max package w/6 speed auto, sunroof and Z85 suspension. Then I'd like it to have the All Terrain/Denali side molding, Escalade painted and chrome side mirrors and the smooth tailgate protector from the Sierra 2500. The 17" wheels don't seem bad, but I want OWL tires with an aggressive tread like the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's I have now. All of this encourages me to hang on to my current truck as GM doesn't make what I want. Tahoe Z71 Interior:

I still don't see me trading in my BMW 330i for a CTS anytime soon. I bought a BMW because I wanted a driver's car...that does not appear to be the CTS's mission in life. That pump to set e-brake with a manual trans would drive me nuts. The Pontiac G8 stands a better chance of getting my money.

Ventura was a trim option on the Catalina in the 60s...a fullsize Pontiac with a "wheelbase longer than 116""...same as the Bonneville. I'll stick with Bonneville. Wikipedia even seem to agree with me naming the G8 as the Bonneville's successor. Real Grand Prix's are Coupes.

I'm glad they kept the red emblem. The pre-production G8 in Smoke Signals has the red emblem as well. Even better that I can retrofit the red tail lights if I don't like the clear ones. Maybe I'll de-badge the the "G8" from the deck lid altogether and get a "Bonneville" badge made for it instead!

Interesting how FBodFather and Pontiac Custom S both work for GM, yet appear to have vastly different views on this particular subject.

I stand corrected. (serves me right for not checking facts before posting :AH-HA_wink: ) Someone on my paper route had one when I was a kid...I remembered it as a GMC. The guy who re-did my Pontiac for me had a thing for El Camino's and used to buy up the late 70s/early 80s models and redo them...sometime with the Choo Choo Customs Monte SS-type nose, etc.

First off, I really liked your letter to Mr. Lutz...well thought out and concise. And I am very surprised the Ute isn't going to be a Chevy El Camino... BUT, moving past the history and emotion and trying to view this as a business decision -- if it's not going to Chevy, then my vote is for Pontiac. As Northstar pointed it, the Ute is still a CAR with a bed. And I'm also assuming the Ute would be imported in limited volumes from Australia, much like the plan for the G8. So RWD performance car sold in limited quantities, combined with leveraging the existing $100MM investment in turning the Commodore into the G8 and Pontiac makes the best business case sense. It combines the service training with the G8 service program as well. And Pontiac desperately needs the product...and might get the Ute in lieu of a Firebird. And best of all, NO BADGE ENGINEERING within the North American market! Chevrolet will have the Camaro soon and could turn the 427 concept into a Silverado SS (may even be in plan). Not ideal if you've been wishing for an El Camino, but not too bad if you're looking to maximize your investment while providing differentiated products to your various brands. Let's not forget the GMC Caballero Conquista edition! Also, Pontiac did build an engineering prototype of a Grand Am pickup using a GMC Caballero between 1978-1980. It's featured in the Aug 2007 edition of Smoke Signals magazine and resides in the GM Heritage Collection. So it's not exactly a new idea. Cue Regfootball rant about RWD with no AWD option...
