[ Real ] Buick Invicta Concept
YellowJacket894: Thank you for presenting these photos next to each other. Guess you're right. But I didn't imagine there was a sweepspear under that black camouflage, I thought it was just the curvy lines like on the Enclave. I hope it all looks cohesive and elegant. Northstar: Thank you for your logic. So, potentially, Buick may soon have the line-up of: "Skylark" ( ? ) - Delta II ( ? ) "Invicta" - Epsilon II "Riviera" - Delta II ( ? ) "Enclave" - Lambda And then, of course, following his "Lunch with Buick" there was the report by z28luvr01 that " . . . When trying to figure out Buick's future productm 'don't limit yourself' to thinking about what's out there now or known to be in the pipeline . . . "

C&G @ NYIAS: Lunch With Buick
Anyone think Buick could offer a two-tone paint job - some color above the sweepspear and one below?

[ Real ] Buick Invicta Concept
I just got done reading an article on the Detroit News website, "Buick unveils concept car sketches; Tiger Woods golf ball art" by Eric Morath. Here are a few interesting quotes from it: " . . . The Invicta is a step toward bringing back a sporty Riviera-like car to Buick's production lineup, Edward Welburn, vice president for GM Global Design said . . . " " . . . The new product is designed to meet the needs to both drivers in America, and China . . . " " . . . This is a showcase for our global design direction," he [ Welburn ] said . . . " " . . . Welburn said he could envision both a coupe and a sedan version of a potential production vehicle . . . " To read the entire piece, click here.

First look: Holden Ute becomes Pontiac sport truck
Nice that GM is asking the public, but what's wrong with the name G8 Sport Truck?

GM to launch second small car in India
Pictures, please. [ Where's the "this-thread-is-worthless-without-pictures" symbol? ]

Shift starts to smaller cars
Well, if the shift to smaller cars is apparent, GM better get their product plans for all of their makes going on smaller cars.

C&G @ NYIAS: Lunch With Buick
z28luvr01: Thank you for your first-hand report! We all wish we could have been in your shoes! I've seen a photo taken of the presentation, showing Welburn and Thompson standing in front of the Invicta image on the screen. Besiees the outline of the Invicta, there are three portholes and what might be the front grille frame or shape shown. It's on thegmsource.com, but I haven't seen that complete image elsewhere.

[ Real ] Buick Invicta Concept
Just to be sure that I understand you guys... underneath that black camouflage on the side of the white 4-door NG LaCrosse spyshots is a sweepspear? Is it a chrome piece? Is it molded into the body sheet metal? Does it stick out from the side or is it flat to the touch? Why would they make a "concept" for the NG LaCrosse, when they've already said the Riviera "concept" previews it? Are you sure this Invicta isn't forecasting the Lucerne replacement? Elsewhere, reports are that it is a "coupe-like" sedan; that the vehicle is all but certain to become a production model; and that all Buicks will be made to be sold in China and NA. ADDED THOUGHT: Jalopnik says that it is a full-size luxury sedan.

[ Real ] Buick Invicta Concept
I'm sorry, but I strongly disagree. This is NOT the NG LaCrosse; we've already seen spy shots of that (the white 4-door) and these vehicles look nothing alike. If anything, this new Invicta concept has the same roofline as the Holden Coupe 60.

[ Real ] Buick Invicta Concept
Yes, especially since they said they'll be aligning Buick NA with Buick China.

Eight-Brand Pileup Dents GM's Turnaround Efforts - WSJ
There's no such obsession with Buick. Buick is down to 3 models, for Heaven's sake! Pontiac still has, what, 7 (G8, G6 Sedan, G6 Coupe, G6 Convertible, G5, Solstice, Vibe)? And how many do the other GM makes have?

Should GM Move It's Global Headquarters?
So you think that, by moving the company to [ wherever C-P F would like ], those customers will say, "Gee, now that GM is headquartered in Bonn, I'm going to buy that Caddy"? Well, in this customer's mind, GM was, is, and always should be an American company, that, admittedly, has global interests and operations (but not headquarters) elsewhere. Is this one of those "already a done deal" questions?
-
Should GM Move It's Global Headquarters?
Shouldn't this be the end-all question: "How would such a move (to wherever) improve our product?" It wouldn't necessarily, so this shouldn't be a priority for GM - better vehicles should be. Just like you can't keep cutting your way to profits, you can't run away from your problems. Once GM cuts whatever brand(s) it chooses, what gets cut then? Once GM moves to a new "global" headquarters, where do you run to if that doesn't work? Do customers say, "I don't like that car because GM's headquartered in Detroit"?

Eight-Brand Pileup Dents GM's Turnaround Efforts - WSJ
I realize that it's a tough and competitive world; given its falling share of the NA market, those same thoughts could be asked of GM as a whole. Whatever problems (real or perceived) ascribed to Buick, they are also GM's problems. Nonetheless, GM is re-building its NA Buick line-up from its success with Buick in China. With that goal in place, high-dollar profits are certainly possible (someone said the average transaction price for an Enclave was $39,000) and, if the execution of future vehicles is as good as the Enclave, those returns are entirely likely.

Wipe [ your pre-conceived notions ] out of your head for a moment! Read the testimonials from several people (younger people!) on this website who (in some cases, to their surprise) chose an Enclave. Or talk to the people for whom the Enclave was a conquest sale - I think the figure was 43%. Or to those Enclave buyers who helped to lower the average age of Buick owners to, what, 53? Regarding the Enclave, it was stated in Motor Trend, "Buick has rejustified its existence." Go see it in-person, sit in it, drive it. As a recent headline on wardsauto.com stated, "Buick [ is ] on track to Get the Last Laugh."

Eight-Brand Pileup Dents GM's Turnaround Efforts - WSJ
Buick is doing well with Enclave (Lambda, not Zeta) and will soon have the NG LaCrosse (Epsilon II, not Zeta). Other possibilities include a Buick smaller than LaCrosse (not Zeta) and the Riviera Concept (not Zeta). Buick doesn't need to be "for the masses," that's what Chevrolet is for.

Eight-Brand Pileup Dents GM's Turnaround Efforts - WSJ
Thank you, balthazar! Wasn't the Buick Enclave the first one shown to the public, as a 2006 concept vehicle? That's when the accolades started pouring in!
