But that's exactly the type of choice Porsche can now offer: smaller fully loaded model or larger with less content. More options should bring in more people (in theory at least). More options or cannibalization? People doubt GM's strategy for price overlaps through the breadth and depth of its product lineup, but this is okay because it gives theoretically more options?

Is the Sonic engine bay that small compared to the Cruze bay? What is the dimensional difference between the Family 0 and Family II engines?

Why was it not planned? This is a post-bankruptcy vehicle. What prevents the 2.0T being put under the bonnet?

Why is GM adamant about not putting a more potent motor on this capable platform? Dusk, RS even though tasty give perception of a lipstick on the ... We know the car is more than capable. At 2,700 lb Fiesta ST packs 190 odd HP, GM should at least match that rather than putting the 2.0T.

Emotional conjectures in the statements decrying need for this product nearly matches the enthusiasts' comments trying to be refuted. Also, hypocrisy of GM not having business plans goes contradictory to the support shown for the so-called bold plans of multiple body styles of BMW (even if some of those body styles will sell at measely 20 units a month) and Chevroletdes Benz bringing generic FWD and V classes here.

Capability wise it is a truck for people who do not need a full size one. It has diverse power train options, good looks, nice interior, and decent towing. Let us see how GM puts it price wise. A couple of reservations: 1) If no manual transmission, GM should have cleared the center console by putting a column shifter, 2) No manual transmission. Overall execution a 9.3 of 10.0.

Has it really been, though? Beyond a few enthusiasts, is the really any market here for it? I can understand in Australia where they have had continous production of the ute for over 6 decades. But the El Camino has been gone for 25 years.. Do you have any any evidence to prove that? Demise of the Camino coincided with the cheap gas and cheap full size trucks in the late 80s along with GM's notorious habit of letting it rot and with Roger's push for United Association of W Bodies. Do you have any evidence to prove otherwise? I just don't see much of a market for a 2dr, 2 seat car/truck w/ limited capability compared to a comparably price full size pickup. Just skeptical...I think it would be yet another GM flop like the SSR was. So it is conjectural at its best, hence the rhetorical question.

With gas being as much as it is, having a truck bed on a car chasis should see more market than your disbelief. If a 4.3 V6 4,700 lb truck can get 24 mpg a 4,000 lb car should at least beat it by 10%, if geared accordingly.

Not a bad idear.... but I'm thinking they might be better off doing a turbo 2.5 to replace the N/A 3.6. The 2.5 is very smooth for a large 4-banger. The reason for the single turbo V6 is that the perception is still not there for a premium 4 banger. Having entry level 4 banger is not unacceptable for that class.

Cadillac needs to remove the N/A 3.6 from the ATS and CTS as it is becoming a weakling. It's not good image when the bigger engine car is slower than the smaller engine car. (MT CTS 2.0 and 3.6 test) I think turbocharging the entire Caddy sedans lineup would be kosher to give it unique powertrain, while using the same GM parts and bins. ATS - 1.6T, 2.0T (or 2.0T in two flavors) and 3.6 single turbo CTS - 2.0T, 3.6 single and twin turbo

I am confused, if MB is going to pinch pennies by building 3,4,6 inlines on the same architecture, then will there be no V8 and V12 in MB future? If MB decides to make V8 and V12 by vee-ing two 4s and 6s of this new architecture, respectively, why not vee the two 3s and make a V6? Or is there going to be a brand new architecture for V8 and V12?

As much as I love my namesake car to win, I think CTS has pushed the envelope more than its predecessor than the Vette did. 2008 CTS was also M/T COTY has it been cursed?
