Can the New-Look Malibu Help Jump-Start Chevy?
"...nothing like the brawny rear-drive muscle cars that bore that name during the 1960s and 1970s..." Contrary to what those born after 1980 think, not all RWD cars built in the 60's and 70's were "muscle cars". Most common misconception on the internet. Chevy's mid-sized "muscle cars" are the "Chevelle SS", NOT "Malibu" at all. From 1964-72, Malibu was the top Chevelle trim level, and it was offered with I6's to 454's. Then the 73-77 Chevelles had many other trim names, like Laguna and Malibu Classic, and the SS was only in '73. The 1978-83 Bu's are not muscle cars at all, nor are they Chevelles either, just RWD family cars. Sure one could customize a RWD car to a drag racer, but the true "muscle cars" were only 10%, at best, of mid sized cars back then. So, no, a 1970 Chevelle '300' 4 door with a 307 V8 and automatic is not a muscle car at all. Just like a base Lancer is far from an EVO.

GMX/T PLATFORM
Or is it for new versions of Chevy Laguna, Buick Apollo, Pontiac Star Chief , or the new sub brand for GMC, "OldsCutlass"?

No Delay in Killing RELAY
Yes it is still "available", but just not being built. They got alot of unsold stuff to unload.

C&D Comparison: Aura 4th out 6
Car and Driver pretty much is "Accord Monthly". They "love" the car and should just be like the Mustang magazines that bascially ignore other cars. It is sooo boring to read "all cars must measure to the Accord". My friend has one and I've droven them, and they are just a nice modern car, not anything to call "vastly superior" [most overused verbage by mag racers] anymore. C/D is a snooze when they say the same thing every test. "The Accord is butter smooth, everything else is crap" They looked for any excuse to write off the Aura, "unseen interior parts feel icky". I'm glad it won NACOTY.

What's next?
Well, reality is ther Buick will never have a 'full line' like they used to. And thats a good thing. They do not need to offer every car Chevy sells, no Buick badged Aveos, Cobalts, or even Silverados! Some here miss the old A, J, and N bodied Buicks, but they dont compare to the real ones built before the 80's. Better to offer a few real good cars/crossovers, then rebadged whatever all the other brands offer.

Another LaxSoup spy pic
"Just drop it"? And what can they whip up overnite to replace it? The Super is just a finale to the W body before the next generation.

2008 Ford Focus
Chicagoland replied to Flybrian's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)People are crying that it should be the Euro one, but they knew all aling taht wasnt going to happen. This looks fine, and it has re-engineered parts, nit just old underneath. Someone said it looks like an Ion, huh? Seems like that has become cliche' They dumped the ZX# scheme which was dated and confusing finally!

2007 G5 review
But, isn't Canada the kingdom of 'Pont-rolets'? Just kidding. Some Pontiac dealers still compete with Chevy, thinking it is still the 70's/80's. Then we got the Ventura, Astre, Sunbird, and T1000

Camaro too late?
Gas prices are as easy to predict as lottery tickets. Even if they go up, GM can make a hybrid, E85, or 'plug in' Camaro.

2010 Impala Renderings
Motor Trend's 'artist conceptions' of future cars are always 99% way off. I remember back in the 70's they had drawings of a "1975 Cadillac LaSalle", with huge round headlights. The real car ended up being the 76-79 Seville, looked nothing like the 'Space Invader' pics.

Chevy Shows Malibu, Announces Fairfax Investment
Go to Toyota dealer and ask to see a manual Camry. See how long the salesperson laughs and if they have one, it is parked "in another storage lot" Real buyers dont want manuals in sedans anymore. Look at most new Beemers sold, they have autos in them. Try trading in a manual non luxury make 4 door, you will take a bath, or not even get an offer.

1965 Chevrolet's Bewitching Bonanza
Chevys had high resale value back then too. That is one reason owners could afford to trade in often. The gas prices of the last 70's hurt bigger cars, though,

Lutz Responds to GM Minivan Debacle
There is still a market for small vans. GM & Ford think of them as 'not invented here', so they poo-poo them. Toyota, Honda, Hyundai-Kia, and Mopar offer competitive vans, with no excuses.
-
Spring Hill - Not dead yet
Spring Hill is too new, too modern, to close, and would be a "PR Nightmare". It will have to be converted to flex assembly to compete. Just becasue the "new Uplander/Terazza" is dead doesn't mean GM can't build something else there.

08 Malibu Pics
Well, a 'Bu coupe would clash with Cobalt's. Never mind that there is a G5 vs G6, that won't last.

Buick needs more models
The only [non sporty] 2 doors that sell well are droptops. Maybe a new version of the Bengal?

Chrysler Coupons: The Incentives Just Keep Coming
$1000 rebates on 30K$ trucks is peanuts. Won't make anyone who's still upside down on a loan make a move.

Nov. 2006 Sales: Ford Motor Company
Oh well, Im not going to beat my head against the wall. The sales #'s were artificial for years by dumping into fleets at a loss. Now, more real #'s coming in. Toyota can only go so far. GM showing an increase when they are supposedly 'dying' means Toyo won't take over everything.
-
Nov. 2006 Sales: Nissan North America
Well, their issue is trucks, hmm something that GM/Motown does well.
-
Nov. 2006 Sales: General Motors Corp
3 Astros and 5 Azteks were sold, wow! Still some old stuff sittign somewhere. But, still the great Lucerne sales #'s show that changing the old name helped, and making a good car too!

FIRST LOOK: 2008 Saturn AURA Green Line
Umm, this day and age, not too many people keep stock rims. Also, any dealer can swap out to something esle. It not as if they are welded to the axles!
-
FIRST LOOK: 2008 Buick Enclave
It makes the Lexus RX and Acura MDX look like 1990 Camry wagons. Sure, gearhaeds want a new GNX, but the buyers want this ;-)

Buick needs more models
The days of Buick 'cheapo' cars, like the nursing home favorite Century, are long over.

RWD G6 rumor?
Just like someone's "RWD BOF G5" concept?

Impala goes back to RWD in '09
"Caprice" would overlap with Pontiac and Buick's RWD car, so no it won't happen. It's not 1965. Caprice was invented then so Chevy bosses could have a 'Caddy' like car, that started the overlap and redundant models leading to the cookie cutter cars] The marketing costs for a second model prohibit it. Fan boys want it, but they just want to look at it, not buy.
