For the last two years the Sauber F1 Team mechanics have been using their downtime to slice a Formula One racing car lengthwise down the middle with the precision of true craftsmen. Chief Designer Matt Morris quite literally gets underneath the skin of the F1 car, pointing out where and how the individual components are located within the chassis. Everything is packed in pretty tightly. Sergio Pérez is also on hand to demonstrate the driver's seating position.

Nope. No Opel involvement back then. In the mid to late 60s (HD and HR family and the HK, HT, and HG family), much of Holden's design cues came from Oldsmobile. A lot of Oldsmobile designers were brought into Holden when GM head office saw the hideous prototypes for the locally designed EF series (supposed to be released in 1965). The entire EF model was canned, and the quick and dirty Oldsmobile influenced HD model (referred to by many as the "H"astily "D"esigned or "H"olden's "D"isaster model) was cobbled together and released instead. The HR model that followed cleaned up a lot of the HD's less than popular design cues. The HK, HT, and HG models that followed (the Monaro in the advert is a HK series) all had strong Oldsmobile influences, but by the time the HQ series was being designed for late 1971/early1972 release, the head designer (John Schinella) had just worked on the '70 and '71 Pontiac GTO models and the HQ was designed as a 4 door version of the GTO, with some unique GTO styling features transferred unchanged.
6. I know they won't do it but it would be cool to see them put Chevy badged on the cars at the race in TX. It would make it a Ford vs Chevy battle here and even the folks down under would not be offended. God knows we ship enough Chevy items there daily at work. You would be suprised how many Camaro's they have there. They have done it for earlier events, so why not do it for the race in Texas Buick logos for the China race Chevy logos for the race in Bahrain ... (just ignore the PhotoShop oops where they forgot to take care of the reflection of the Holden badge on the front bumper)

Some of the design cues on the first generation Monaro (fastback roofline and wheel arches) were directly lifted from the '66 Toronado.
9. Don't forget, the V8Supercars will be racing at the "Circuit of The Americas" in Austin,Texas in 2013. Do you think Chevrolet will use the event as part of their pre-release advertising?
10. Yes. It was a major failure for Ford. New, they were priced about $4000 higher than an equivalent specification Falcon, and nobody liked the styling.
11. You should have seen how they engineered some of the RHD stuff. The master cylinder and booster were still on the left with a 1" diameter torque tube running across the car to connect the pedal on the right to the brake system on the left.
12. Yep. The US Taurus front turn signals were too close to the vehicle centerline to be legal in Australia.
13. I'm a member of an Australian automotive forum. It's nothing like Cheers&Gears ... more like a cross between Cheers&Gears and the /b/ area of 4chan. Anyhow, a while back one of the members spotted a really ugly Ford Taurus with a home-made wide body kit on eBay, and we knew that for the sake of society, this vehicle had to be obliterated. We took donations from the forum members, and bought the car with the specific intent of destroying it. There were many plans for a spectacular destruction, including one that involved a serious amount of explosives, but one by one these plans became non-events when all the "nanny state" regulations, paperwork, insurance, and occupational health and safety rules raised their ugly heads, and the event organizers backed out. In the end, we got sick and tired of the never ending crap, and just wanted to get rid of the thing ... so we burned it. The entire episode has been imortalized in a video that one of the members (with an automotive themed video production company) cut together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr2VhZ0FLL0

17. Our daughter left hers in her jeans pocket and it did a cycle through the washing machine ... then got baked in the dryer. Unfortunately that one wasn't insured and was under contract, so we had to buy a replacement phone.
18. You want to do what one of my wife's co-workers did ... He let it fall out of his pocket into the snow, and then accidentally found it with the snow blower. It wasn't fixable that time.

Here's a couple of 9C3 images. The company that outfitted the black one do turn key packages, starting at USD$29000 for a basic 9C3 all the way to USD$45000 for a full loaded marked 9C1! Apparently all 9C3 models get dual tailpipes while the 9C1 get the normal quad tailpipes, all use the same V8 with the same power rating.
