I prefer the long-bed version, but...
Sure, but do you ever see a 1980?

Here's something that you just don't see, a 1980 Chevy pickup. http://ipocars.com/imgs/a/b/j/z/e/chevrolet__silverado_4x4_truck_with_approval_1980_2_lgw.jpg I always thought that they looked a bit odd with the old bodystyle and those rectangular headlights. I haven't seen one in many years, even though I see plenty both older and newer. I wonder if 1980 was a bad sales year as I never recall seeing many of these - even in 1980.

No idea on the build date. I thought the door happened with the '81 restyle.

Recent GM trademark filings
Some are for that perhaps, but "El Camino" has been trademarked for use on a vehicle. Some are just for merchandise (hats etc.) I have no idea why "Turbo-Jet" was trademarked (haven't checked), but it was the way they used to refer to Chevy big block engines. The small blocks were "Turbo-Fire". Trademark registrations can make good "tea leaves" for reading the future if you look carefully enough at how they've been trademarked.

Recent GM trademark filings
Lots of interesting ones over the last year or so. Here's a partial list: Nomad El Camino Riviera GNX Grand National LTS Electra Crossvolt Stingray Z28 Velite Turbo-Jet

On the fuel doors, it must have been a transitional year then as my '79 GMC had the old style round gas fillers with no door.

Hope once again?

Hard to tell - can't see the rust he described in the pics. The bed isn't original, the fuel filler doors shouldn't be there.

An automotive lament by some friends of mine
Yep. But you have to buy a few "stones" before your skills at diamond prospecting are sharp enough.

500L Going Down The Strada
Just looks goofy to me - especially with the roof off and the B-pillar sticking up like a broken stump.

500L Going Down The Strada
Nothing looks more awkward than a Wrangler 4-door - can't believe that they sell so well. They are just a proportional nightmare. I freely admit that I can't stand 4-doors generally, but the Wrangler is the worst of them.

Find this one interesting...
Be careful - two wheel drives are a tough sell. Might be hard to get rid of when that time comes.

Red with plow
You guys are evil. That one that Balthy posted is a '72, not a '71 as listed. It always bugs me when sellers know so little about a car they are selling that they get the year wrong. No, I won't be buying another Camino just now.
