Well, personally I would have liked it a whole lot more if it was just left as a HOLDEN Ute. But Pontiac is more well known, and it would be cool to take to Pontiac shows and the like. At this point, would it even make sense to convert it back to a HOLDEN? I'd say if you got it, either leave it as a GTO and put the rest of the PONTIAC badging on it (rear) or go ahead and try to convert it into a Chevrolet El Camino. I do think that we'll eventually see these here as NEW cars, the question is when though. Is the Ute going to be updated like the Commodore? And when?

Bob,I just registered on the site and signed me & the wife up. This will be a great event! I went to the GM sponsored event for dealers back in 2000 - breakfast was great, the slideshow of upcoming models was great, and having the show from 8:00 - 10:00 AM with no public was great too. This was back when I worked at the B-P-G dealership; the sales manager took me because he knew what kind of car nut I am!!! I hope that if we're able to go, we could meet up at some point - bring that new '04 GTO/Ute with you! :AH-HA_wink:

Camino, what a unique car! It has your name written all over it. You won't see many of these around for a while. If you do get it, and you want to put PONTIAC badging (or have no badging at all) on the rear, I'd be more than happy to take that HOLDEN emblem off the back for you:

That's one sharp looking '59 Buick... and I have to say that I like it in the refrigerator white btw!!! Do the rear windows go down? I see what appears to be handles right behind the driver's seat on the second interior picture.

A guy in my area has a red & white '59 Skyliner and had installed a remote control for the top's operation. So at car shows he'll stand about 10 feet awy from the car when kids are around, tell them that his car responds to his commands, and then say out loud, "top open/close" and watch as a bunch of little kids think his car is magic! It's priceless. I asked him about it and he said he got the idea about 5-6 years ago. He found the technology online and took him a month or two to install it and get it working right. He stated he has not had any problems with the top's operation or with the remote system. BTW, it's pretty cool watching one of these tops go up or down.

XP, that advise was given to me about 7 years ago by a fellow salesman at the dealership I worked at. He wanted a '62 Impala convertible, just like he had when he was 17. Putting two kids through college didn't allow him the finances to buy one restored. So at around the age of 40 he found a complete car that needed work and over the next ten years he got it to the point where it looks like it came right off the showroom floor (he completed it in the mid-'90s). He told me to find a real nice old GMC, buy it, store it and slowly work on it as I can. Problem with that advise? There are no decent '55-'57 GMCs in New Jersey! Everything I find looks just like, if not worse, than the Olds pictured above. That's why I started this thread - to see what the experts around here would tell me. Now If I really had the money, I'd love to find an old GMC out in the west/mid-west states and do exactly as you said XP. Problem with that is most shipping companies won't ship anything that's not driveable, and I don't know anyone that has the capability to drive cross-country with their truck & trailer to get it for me. I will not give up hope. Just pray that I win the lottery soon (well, let me start playing again first, then pray for me!).

Thanks haypops for the heads-up... I haven't been over to Saturnfans.com in a while. I will say that I'm surpirsed GM/Saturn is making this move. Usually the Chicago show is a Pontiac show, and Saturn has been saved for the New York show. Maybe they have it wrong, or maybe GM/Saturn have changed their minds. I do know that the '99 Grand Am GT models were shown at the '98 New York show, so maybe each year they'll change it up between the two brands. Glad to hear that we'll be seeing these new models soon!

Thanks for the input so far. Like I said, even though this happens to be one of my favorite Olds models, there's no way I could afford the restoration of this car. I was just wondering, given it's appearance in the pictures, if it was even worth attempting. I'd much rather wait to find the old GMC of my dreams ('55-'57). But some I've found online look like this Olds, and I agree with many here that something like that would take a long time and a lot of resources. It's getting to the point that many rare vehicles are becoming parts for others in restoration or are being used to make hot rods/etc since you can't find all the original parts. One of these days I'm going to come across the perfect GMC, and then I'll just have to figure out where the money will come from! But I now know from the advice given here to stay away from anything that looks like this Olds and find something that is "all together". Thanks guys for your time!

While I think the Holden Commodore SS needs some Pontiac styling up front, if it was offered here for sale back in November, I might have been driving that instead of my AURA (don't get me wrong, I love my AURA and its styling, but that G8 is a mighty fine looking car too). I used to be into the new Pontiacs (had a '95 T/A, '99 G/A GT1 sedan and a '00 G/P GT sedan). But the only Pontiac I wanted after 2003 was the Bonneville GXP, which was way out of my price range (and now gone). Saturn has caught my eye and as you can see, I bought two of them this past year. I'm still a die-hard Pontiac fan, but need the styling to bring me back. The current G/P is a joke, the G6 is alright (I prefer the AURA more), and the G5 is way to small for my needs (especially since it's not offered in sedan form). macadamianut, do you have any pictures you could post of the HSV taillights? Or a link? I'm interested in seeing what they look like.

One of my all-time favorite cars happens to be the 1957 Oldsmobiles... and at the top of that list is the Olds Fiesta 88 station wagon. Have you seen the new Orville Redenbacher microwavable popcorn commerical? If not, check it out here first: It's creepy! This guy has been dead since 1995, yet the company decided to resurect him for their new ad??? He looks fake - I watched E!'s "Talk Soup" show yesterday and they said it was a combination of live action, Orville's head & lots of CG effects. But I think it's creepy. Especially in the beginning of the commercial, I think all the people in it think it's creepy to see a dead guy boppin' to an MP3 player and making popcorn- just look at their faces (especially the white guy with glasses)! And best of all, at the end of the commercial he says "You'll like it better, or my name isn't Orville Redenbacher" -- well, he isn't Orville Redenbacher!!!

I only watched about an hours worth over the weekend (Sat & Sun). Two years ago you had the excitement of the '54 Olds F-88 and last year there was the '54 Pontiac Bonneville Special and the GM Futurliner. Anything exciting this year? I didn't hear about it the week before, and there was no news of anything special coming up over the weekend. A neighbor of mine that I haven't met apparently is a saleperson at a Saturn store; I know this because back in October I saw an AURA XR in his driveway with dealers plates for over a month. The wife noticed yesterday a Carbon Metallic OUTLOOK XR now gracing the driveway. It is one nice truck! Maybe take her over to the local GMC dealership to see the Acadia - my wife still is having a hard time deciding which one she likes better to replace our '05 Envoy lease (we have 18 more months on our lease anyway). Fly, while waiting for a teaching position to become available, I thought the same as you and accepted a job for "Internet Sales" for a Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealership back in February of '99 (I lasted until July '00). As much as I thought that I'd enjoy it (the ride & drives were fun, driving all the new cars was fun, hell - I even enjoyed most of the training (videos & booklets sent by GM)), it was some of the worst times in my life. If you're not at the dealership, you;re not making money. If you're not there and your customer comes back & buys from someone else, be hopeful the manager splits the commission. Get ready to deal with a lot of B.S. - from customers, fellow sales people, service writers, managers, finance people, etc. Remember, you're the middle person - you control nothing (good old managers). Now that I've been teaching going on 7 years, I look back at that time a little more fondly. But I'd never want to go back. And I teach MARKETING & run a school-based enterpirse (aka = school store)!!!!

Sixty8, congrats on finding your dream '59 Buick. As long as you're happy with the purchase, then that's all that matters. Good luck witht eh sale of teh '64 Olds 88... if I liked the style of those years, I'd probably be interested. Please reconsider the yellow. Great looking truck. Get that camera working again - I need to see a side shot showing the whole side of the truck. You gave me just about what the brochure shows of the regular cab! I'd be really tempted to get rid of my SKY if GMC added the E63 Sportside bed option again... my dream truck was always a Regular Cab, Sportside bed, SLE/Z71 4WD pickup (see attached picture of the last year the Sportside bed was available). That Stealth Gray (aka Slatestone <Buick> or Blue Granite <Chevy>) is one hell of a color and would have been my choice too; I fear that since most of the other GM divisions have gotten rid of that color for 2007, the GM trucks will follow after 2007. Ocn, I can't wait to see the truck either at one of the Carlisle shows or in the fall at Hershey.

Oh man Fly, I don;t know what to say.... ... ... ... ... ...except that I am now planning on keeping the SKY, which I've had back for a week now, in the garage for a long, long, LONG time. No way I'm taking her out after learning you've been hit again. Good luck with getting the parts you need and getting her back together again. Does the bodyshop you use have a discount program?

mrmonte, do you know anyone that builds models? Way back in the early '90s I used this guy in Texas to build me three models ('91 Trans Am GTA, '55 Chevy Cameo, and '69 Olds 442). Of course I didn't use him after that and lost all contact info. About 2 years ago at a mall-sponsored toy show, I met a guy who builds all kinds of models, but he has not responded to two e-mails I've sent (maybe he's no longer doing it?). Anyway, I have three models that I'd like to have built - two are resin based - and just need someone that builds models for extra cash. Any leads that you can give me would be greatly appreciated!
