Happy belated Birthday!!

I saw a black 2012/2013 Chevy Caprice PPV 9C3 (Detective) car on Route 1 today. Had tinted windows but did not appear to be a police vehicle (license plate was garden-variety letters/numbers, no special MG, SG or NF plates). I still like this design and don't see the Caprice PPV on the road much. The only Chevy dealer I knew that stocked them closed at the end of January.

Well, he's a young guy (early 20s?) that's into Jeeps. He has a newer lifted and decked out Jeep Wrangler, so I know he enjoys working on that. I know he goes to bars and gets chicks, but that's about it. While I seen him around the station, he took over the job as station engineer in December so I only knew him as a firefighter/EMT prior to this year. Without asking, I don't know too much about his persoanl life.

Okay, so the engineer at my fire station is installing the remanufacturered alternator on my step-son's '98 Regal LS tomorrow. He asked for nothing in return but I want to compensate him. Would handing him an envelope with cash at the end be acceptable? How much should I give? Never done anything like this before, so I don't want to offend either way (no cash given or too little/much cash). Thanks!

Congrats on your 90th new car here!! Seriously, congrats on the new VW. My neighbors have had two VW the past couple of years. The CC was a 2010 (I think?), and she got a new '13 Jetta TDi in January. Her husband has a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 BigHorn with the blutec diesel, so they've become a fan of diesel-powered vehicles. She has stated that she's getting phenominal gas mileage with the TDi engine. Can't wait to see the pictures from this weekend Care to share what color it is and the option content prior?

Glad to see your mom stck with GMC and got herself another Terrain. If something happens to the Envoy before I can procure myself a new '14 Sierra, I would seriously consider a short-term Terrain lease (24 months). Can't wait for updates in the near future

Oh I'm sure the Mini Cooper S is a fantastic small car, there's plenty of them in my employer's parking lot in Princeton, NJ! But if I was going for a Mini, I would really only consider the Countryman model

UPDATE 3/4/13.... - Driver's seat frame broke fully by the time he left, causing the foam pad to disintergrate and the leather rip. Local Auto Upholstrey shop was consulted - too much $$$ for new leather but pleather (aka new vinyl) was in his range. This was the first repair done: - Auto Salvage Yard was no good for me, as they had only one Buick Regal there (2001) that has been picked apart already. Needed the plastic "wood" trim for around the shifter, but apparently it's part of the entire console top. The salvage yard had the piece, broken at one end, covered in some sort of hardened grime, that was missing several of it's tabs on the back. Asked the parts counter guy "how much?"... which puzzled him! He said "but it's broken!" and I replied that it was still better than what I had (nothing). He mulled it over than decided it wasn't even worth the effort to enter the sale into the computer for a $1, so he gave it to me FREE - score! Took it home, soaked it in Simple Green, used Goo Gone for some hard-to-clean spots, scrubbed it clean again, and then glued the one broken end. Some crazy glue applied to the console and Viola! this job is done: - Ordered a very good condition inside rear view mirror from eBay; fixed the windshield mount with a repair kit from Advanced Auto, reattached the wiring and installed the new-er mirror: - Fixed the small area of the headliner that was peeling away from the roof in the center rear of the back window with spray adhesive: - Per Oldsmoboi's information, searched eBay for a replacement knob and found one at a very decent price (not perfect but much better than what was there): -Finally, washed the exterior, rims and tires for some shots for the eventual Craigslist ad (my stepson last washed the car maybe late summer!): Three things left to do before I can put it on Craigslist: 1. Replace the alternator (purchased a remanufactured unit from Advanced Auto Parts, engineer from my fire station has offered to install it Saturday afternoon since his dad was a Marine) 2. Get the exterior detailed to remove some key scratches a former flame of my stepson's put into the driver's side doors and rear quarter panel; maybe engine steam cleaned (if needed) 3. Vacuum and clean-up the interior to make it more presentable Some issues that won't be addressed: front passenger power window (motor?) starting to go as window will get stuck half-way; console lid needs to be replaced but previous owner overtightened the screws and unable to get them loose (watching an eBay autcion for a console lid, just in case I make headway here), miscellanous other little issues with a 15-year old car that don't prohibit it from being a good, local daily driver for someone else, and I wanted to replace the headlights as the seams have loosened and cloudiness as formed on the inside (since he's not keeping it no sense in spending additional $$$ with no garuantee of ROI). He's graduating Marine Basic Training on April 5th, so I may hold onto the car until he comes home so he can at least use the car with the fixes I've done to enjoy it one last time (he goes to Combat Training in mid-April).

Dammit Bob- now you got me looking (online) at Wranglers!! I really love these new-for-'13 aluminum rims on the Wranglers: And I'm really digging the Sahara model too: I like how that gray one gives me an old '60s Ford Bronco vibe too. I'm sure sometime today I'll be finding my way to the Jeep website

Oh, I almost forgot back in the mid-'90s I worked a part-time job and two co-workers, both females in their early 20s, had Jeep Wranglers as their daily drivers. Both absolutely loved them, and for opposite reasons. One was a Jersey Shore girl (Mara) and loved the open top beach cruising when she was home for summer (college). The other was a down and dirty Bucks County girl that went off-roading/trail riding with her boyfriend and his Jeep. Before I left the company in '97 Mara traded in her early '90s Wrangler for a new-for-'97 model that she loved even more. It was a sharp looking Jeep for sure.

In 2000, I drove a 1998 model (4-cylinder, auto) that the dealership I worked at took in on trade. I felt cramped in the driver seat, since the door panel left little "elbow" room, and the 4-cylinder at the time was peppy but left me wanting the 6-cylinder. Other than the buck board ride, I enjoyed taking it on dealership errands. It was a fun little runabout and left me wanting one even more (I had already wanted one before this experience). The only other ones I've been in the past 2-3 years were in the auto show Jeep Camp test drives, mainly as a passenger, so I can't really say much. I will agree with you that these are just about the last two-door off-road SUVs (Land Rover Evoque comes in a 3-door model). I still want one, the only non-GM vehicle I desire and would seriously consider for a purchase. I don't share your disdain for the 4-door Wrangler Limited, as I find it a very good looking SUV too (I'd still want the 2-door though). I could probably lease a basic family hauler cheap and purchase a Wrangler for my 3rd "fun" vehicle, but the desire I have for a new 2014 Sierra outweighs the admiration I have for a new Wrangler. I just hope the current Chrylser leadership don't mess with the Wrangler redesign (2015?) as they have with the upcoming Cherokee

To be honest with you, I'm not a small car enthusiast. Since the wife wanted to look at a smaller car for commuting purposes, we checked out several the past couple of months (we're delyaing any car purchase plans at this time). Having said that, I never really checked out the '14 Fiesta at the Philadelphia Auto Show and haven't paid attention to it online. I just Googled it and is this it? I'm not a fan of Ford's big mouth bass styling direction. The front of the car looks like it wants to suck-up everything on the road in front of it (Ford, by Dyson ). I know the Sonic has a larger split grille opening too, but it's not nearly as large as the Ford Fiestas. Though, having personally driven this: I can say I really enjoyed the go-cart feel of this car. I really enjoyed the ride, handling and performance of the Sonic LTZ Turbo (it was automatic, though I know you want the manual). I felt there was a good amount of room in the Sonic and felt very comfortable. I told the wife the Sonic LTZ or RS would be the small car I'd go for (over the Spark that she was interested in). Now the VWs.. I really like the new Beetle

I second that!! Congrats Mini-meets would be a great idea. There's the upcoming All-GM Nationals in Carlisle that if enough "club" members register, they provide a free tent.
