Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Hey, I for one don't plan on being a broke part-time instructor and grad student ALL my life. I've been looking for something to aspire to by the time I get where I'm going within the next ten years. For the record, I like the design but hate the canvas. If it does end up on Zeta and get that whole LaCrosse-in-a-tuxedo thing worked out, I will seriously consider it.

Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)A8 is a lame duck since all the engines higher than the V8 are gone and the new one is coming on sale later this year.

Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Is that more akin to the transmission in the Malibu or Tahoe hybrid? (just so I know)

Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Funny... I've seen none of those types of people driving an LS, S-Class, or 7 Series recently. And as far as why the drivetrain layout matters... it affects what engine you can fit under the hood (think: more cylinders). I know, I know, the powerplant in the concept can make 350 HP, yeah... but GM has often gotten in trouble for trying to tell the buyers what they need instead of giving them what they want. Hybrid or not, they're not gonna be successful trying to convince potential buyers that their 350 HP is better than, say, Lexus' 380, BMW's 400, Mercedes' 381, or Audi's 350 or 360... and certainly not while mated to a CVT.

Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)@ FAPTurbo - Wow, how deep did you have to dig for that? I won't dig into his inaccuracies in that post since he and I have been on the same page for this thread. @ whiteknight - I would agree about the Eldorado compared to the XTS. After comparing Autoblog photos back and forth, the XTS does look too much like a LaCrosse dressed up for prom... which it is in a way.

Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)One, since Sigma has always been a Cadillac-only platform, no we/they wouldn't. Two, since Sigma II is so underutilized but has already proven its worth as a luxury platform, no we/they wouldn't.

Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Unless there's an XLWB version of Epsilon II in the works, that would require an entirely new platform.- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)I just did some digging... As vonVeezelsnider noted in the first post, this car has a wheelbase an inch longer* than the Impala, which actually gives it the same wheelbase as the LaCrosse, more or less. The CTS wheelbase is 1.7 inches longer than that of the LaCrosse. So if this car is dimensionally similar (almost identical except for the elongated rear) to the LaCrosse but will undoubtedly out-price the CTS which has a longer wheelbase... really, where will this car fit? It's not even the traditional land barge that the Deville and DTS were... (* - edit)- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Means they waffled on this one.- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)GM itself has dubbed this the new flagship. Many times. If a "proper" flagship is still coming, why waste money, time, and floor space on this? There is nothing, content-wise, in it or on it that would have been lost had they even put the concept on Zeta. Or even a stretched Sigma II, since it's just a concept.- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Both of those were kinda the dark days of MB and BMW, too... MB with quality issues, and BMW with iDrive and the beginnings of the Bangle butt.- Detroit 2010: Lincoln MKX
Anyone else notice it gets the 3.7L V6 tuned the same as the Mustang? They don't say if it's an option or standard though.- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Tell us how you REALLY feel, whiteknight...- Detroit 2010: Honda CRZ
 Agreed. IMO the Civic and Fit are all that's left...- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Was this on a bench or in a car? And how many transverse transmissions would that grenade? Twelve cylinders would be fun, but I'd be cool with 8. ... and this too. LOL... like the Hyundai Tiburon?- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)And, because of it, Audi can (and does) squeeze engines of any size in there (V6, V8, V10, and W12). If there were a way for Cadillac to fit a substantially bigger, more powerful engine in there, hey, I wouldn't mind.- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)So you'd buy a gussied-up Camry? That's the only FWD sedan they make. The XTS has been described by GM as Cadillac's new flagship model, which is why everyone's up in arms about it not being on a RWD platform.- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Fixed it for ya.- Detroit 2010: Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
Lamar replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Interior is wonderful. Exterior's not bad, design-wise... but it looks to follow current Cadillac trends, not lead as a proper flagship should do. Also, please let just the concept be on EPII...- 2010 Ford Flex Review
Lincoln MKT. Same basic vehicle, but much different exterior.- American Honda December 2009
Well, I have seen gas going up again (at least locally). Let's see if Fit sales follow it.- Ford Motor Company December 2009
Nah... folks (and fleets) are snatching them up before they die. Nothing to see there.- Consumer Reports tested the CTS
Too shiny...- 2010 Ford Fusion SEL
