The Civics of the mid-90's achieved 45-50mpg fairly easily. MT did a road test back in 95ish with a Civic hatch that got like 48mpg. The new ones are worse because the new ones are heavier, meaning the engine has to work harder. They're not only heavier because they are bigger, but because they have loads of safety items and electrical doo-dads that weren't in many luxury cars ten years ago, much less entry-level ones.

So does the car come with one of these? If so, I'll pay the dealer the $400 to Scotchgard the seats.

For right now its a decent strategy, we're closing in on the winter months, not many people in the northern areas are going to want what is essentially a Sunday cruiser for the cold months. Hopefully they'll even out the distribution early next year so those of us who dont live in year round 70 degree weather will get to see some, and the SKY should be distributed evenly from the start, just to keep with their customer friendly history.
