40mpg is something to talk about, and for the class 138hp isn't horrible. The Civic makes 140hp, the Corolla has 132 standard (158 on the XRS or whatever the "performance" model is) and the Elantra make 138. I think the Cruze will be fine in the power department. The Sebringesque c-pillar treatment isn't really my thing.
