Hyundai Sonata Breaks Into U.S. Top 10 Charts
A mid-cycle refresh for the G6 would really do wonders for Pontiac IMO. The exterior would benefit greatly from minor modifications like LED (or at least clear-lense) taillamps and/or a more sculpted front fascia. The interior could use more work, but could be spruced up quite a bit with aluminum accents and a more flowing dash design.

Looks Like the IS300's Totalled...
My sister was rear-ended by an Eyewitness News truck late Friday night while merging onto a local highway. After the initial impact, the car was pushed sideways and eventually off the road completely. Thankfully, my sister is fine. Unfortunately, my car wasn't so lucky. The left rear quarter and entire driver's side underwent severe damage as a result of the initial impact. The suspension underwent minor to moderate damage and at least one of the right wheels was bent upon impact with the curb. Notable replacements will/would include both left taillamps, the gas tank, one or both of the right-side wheels, and the left-side mirror. I'm not sure if the driver's-side doors will be fixed or simply replaced. As a result of the Christmas holiday, our insurance company has yet to inspect the vehicle, so I'm not sure if it'll be declared totalled. Overall, the car's in pretty bad shape. For reference, the car is an '01 Lexus IS300 in Graphite Gray Pearl. Mileage was relatively low for an '01, at 45,000 miles. Here's the Kelley Blue Book Pricing Report (Prior to the accident) Suggested Retail Value: $20,310 Private Party Value: $16,700 Trade-in Value: $14,325 I'm aware that Lexus gets little respect around here, but I was in love with this car. Throughout the past five years of ownership, it's been literally trouble-free. It was still in great condition prior to the accident. I really don't know what to expect at this point. I'd really appreciate any guidance/opinions based on the above information in order to get a better idea of whether or not it'll be declared totalled. Thanks alot. Bimmer

Hyundai Sonata Breaks Into U.S. Top 10 Charts
It's a shame to see Cobalt sales dropping off, but it was expected with the release of the new Civic. I'm surprised to see the G6 outselling the Malibu. That really says something.

BRX Sketch
I always thought Motor Trend's interpretation of the BRX was attractive:

BRX Sketch
I'm shocked that you guys aren't into this thing. I REALLY can't say that I hate it all that much. While a more rakish windshield would do wonders for the design, I still think it's sharp, unique, even attractive. Regardless, it's much more distinctive and far more "Cadillac" than the rebadged Tahoe of an Escalade we're about to get. No debate there.

Buick focusing on the car…
I guess I'm a standout, but I was completely underwhelmed by the Lucerne in person. Simply put, Buick had the chance to produce something distinctive and chose to go the generic route. The Lucerne's stance is extremely ungainly in all but CXS form and the front fascia is downright bland. It's just my opinion, but from a styling standpoint, I can't see the Lucerne playing a large part in Buick's turnaround.

What to do?
Lately I find myself keeping quiet when clueless people discuss the automotive industry in my presence. Simply put, it makes me mad. A friend of mine recently commented that he'd be looking into Volkswagen for their engineering and reliability. I responded with the three most recent quality surveys conducted by J.D. Power and Associates (we were on AIM). That shut him up pretty quickly. Late last week I overheard someone in school downtalking everything FWD shortly before remarking how much they'd love to own a Cobalt. I commented that the Cobalt was actually FWD, but they insisted otherwise. Once I got into specifics like the Delta platform shared by other GMs like the Saturn ION, I noticed them nodding blankly and agreeing for sheer lack of confusion. The same person has argued that Mercedes and Chrysler never merged and are completely seperate automakers. He said something like "You know that Chrysler's are American, right?" Something that constantly pisses me off...a kid at school INSISTS that the BMW 330Ci has a more powerful engine than the 330i. I've tried time and time again to explain that the '30' in 330 denotes a 3.0-liter engine and that the 'C' simply means 'Coupe.' Pointless. Even worse, I overheard some guy on the train calling the Cobalt "nothing more than a re-skinned Cavalier." He went on to say "Nothing underneath's been changed." I could go on for hours, and while most situations in my case don't involve domestic vs. import issues, they're enough to make a car nut like myself go crazy nonetheless.

Gorgeous Sportscar Pics
I've seen quite a few of the above around lately. I saw two 8 Series, a GT40, F430, Z8, Viper SRT-10 and an M3 with the Competition Package on Saturday alone. It's definitely been a hot month for car spotting around here. B)

New Hyundai Santa Fe
It's not quite as groundbreaking as it appeared in earlier spy shots. Still attractive, just nothing new. Something about the profile hints at the Mazda Tribute, and it's not without it's oddities. The thick B-pillar and puny C-pillar are a bit awkward.

Struggling to appeal to young buyers, Buick Pins
Take a look at Buick's current lineup and then ask yourself why Buick doesn't attract younger buyers. :)

Car and Driver - 10Best
No car should make a 10Best list based on something as subjective as a "gotta-have" factor.

Challenger Uncovered
Ugh. I don't even think that can be considered retro. It doesn't recall the 1970 Dodge Challenger. That is a 1970 Dodge Challenger. And it's gross. Keep it, Dodge.

Choppin' Competition 11 - Saab 9X Concept
The deadline for this one crept up on me, so instead of starting from scratch after approving my rough design, I simply perfected my trial copy. My entry is a production Sonnet in Aqua Rush Metallic. Enjoy!

Building a car that would be a bestseller.
My perfect car would be a sleek RWD sedan powered by a smooth inline-6. It'd be on the small end of the midsize spectrum with a sleek, well-proportioned body, agressively-styled fascias, 18" graphite-polished wheels, an aggressive stance, and a true dual exhaust system with understated chrome-polished exhaust tips. Other exterior touches would include LED taillamps and high-gloss metallic paint. Inside, it'd have a flowing console/dash design with orange backlighting and tasteful aluminum/titanium accents. Seats would be leather with suede inserts, and highly-bolstered, yet comfortable . It'd have a 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls and a killer sound system. That's my perfect car.
