I worked 61 hours one week this summer during my internship, and most weeks were above 50. Luckily, I got paid overtime and I didn't really mind it since there wasn't much to do at night where I was staying...but I'm sure once you have a family and a house, it sucks to work that many hours.

  5. So does that mean .002% of registered C&G members are now female? Anyway, welcome ohsnap, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. I was in the DC area a few years ago, nice city...but it was right after 9/11 so there was a lot of paranoia and blockades around all the federal buildings and monuments. We waited two hours to go to the top of the Washington Monument, but it was worth it. Welcome!
  6. Why do all new Toyotas have these hideous snout-like front ends? A year or so ago when they were talking about doing more eye-catching design, this is not what I was expecting. They look like anime characters...Toyota's old vanilla designs at least looked like normal cars. There was a simple elegance to mid-90s Toyotas, but now they're either overwrought or ugly.
  7. It probably means the server is taking a "smoke" break.

We seem to go through these spells every 6-9 months or so. I can remember a couple other times over the last two years when a bunch of members began leaving for GMI and other sites, some of them long-time posters. I think the problem is that sometimes the posts get too personal...we all need to remember that in many cases, you are judging someone who you may not really know that well. I let pretty much everything roll off my back these days, but I also tend to be pretty non-confrontational. I personally haven't seen much lately in the way of disrespect or anything, but apparently something is up if Mute is taking off. "Treat others the way you would like to be treated"...it's a great concept that keeps things friendly among people with differing opinions. Cars should be the driving force that unites us here...not petty arguments that only serve to divide us. Mute, take care buddy. If you ever feel like checking back in, C&G is always open 24/7 (except during server crashes!). Peace.
  9. The Final Countdown is pretty rediculous. I do like the actual song and a couple others off that album, but early Europe really isn't that bad. They get a lot of crap because of The Final Countdown, but their first two albums are pretty underrated, straight-up metal.

Not a pretty Mazda at all. Too much Taurus and Hyundai in the front end, even though it predates them both.

  14. Make a Hyundai Start with a big ball of plastic, preheat oven to 350 F and place object in oven. Let sit for one hour. Once object becomes plyable, remove from oven and shape with fingers Go to local junkyard and spend a few hours scrounging up parts. Pillage away. Bring home grilles, side moldings, and bumpers. Be creative and try different combinations. Surely one of them will look swell. Finally, get a big bowl and stir it all together. Set in fridge for three hours. Remove. Instant Hyundai. Serves four to six.

  17. Apparently Toyota's 20,000 or so employees plus whatever Honda, Nissan, and Hyundai have matter more than 100+ years of Detroit auto history, hundreds of thousands of workers, and millions of retirees. Might as well start stocking up on plywood to board up the Glass House and the RenCen, just in case. Good bye Michigan and Ohio. The rust belt gets even rustier, while the sows in Washington sit there scratching their ass. Our government is officially inept.
  18. I'd love to see a RWD Monte Carlo coupe and would highly consider getting something like that over a Mustang or a Camaro. If it had more interior space, a bigger backseat, but still had V8 power and RWD...I'd be all up for it. I've been in the back of a 1999 Mustang, and there is little room for a 6'4" guy like me. Granted, I'd be driving the car....but I have a disproportionately large number of tall friends (at least six over 6', and one that is 6'9")

DISCLAIMER: This post is kinda spooky...if you're going to bed soon, you might want to hold off checking it out until morning. So, my mom is a teacher and one of her co-workers lives in a small town called Irwin. Anyway, apparently there is an old 100+ year old house right off the highway that is haunted. They sent us a link to a paranomal website featuring the house. Check this out: The people that live in this house have no kids and moved in a few years ago after the former family moved out because they were scared of the spirits inhabiting the home (the current owners didn't find out it was haunted until after the sale). They hired some paranormal dudes to come in and test the house to see, and during one of the photo shoots, they got a startling image: Here's the house. Now keep you eyes peeled toward the first floor window that's hidden behind the column. Scroll down to the next picture. Taken seconds later...notice anything? Scroll down for a closer look. There's a little girl in the window! Yet no one was in the house at the time. And the little girl only showed up on photographs. If that didn't give you goosebumps, I don't know what will. It looks like a Chuckie doll! THen, they did audio recordings in the house. During one instance, the owner was talking to the people how they had spotted a solider in the corner of a room (the house used to be a hospital way back in the day) and when the paranormal people asked if he was present, a "Yes" can be clearly heard on the tape. Soldier talking Then, an audio recorder was placed up in the attic while no one was present, and it picked up at least two ghosts having a conversation with each other. Attic conversation There's tons more that can be found at the website below: http://www.doyouseedeadpeople.org/inv_irwin_res.html

  21. Wow, I just checked out that Friends of Buick site, and it's very well done! It makes me wish Buick's site was that informative...it'd be nice if there was a link from the Buick site to Friends of Buick, because they did a wonderful job. Nice photography, too!
  22. I have S&M (along with all other Metallica albums except St. Anger), and it's a pretty good disc. Not sure if I prefer it over the studio songs, but it's a nice twist from traditional metal. When I first got into them, I picked up S&M, then Reload (mainly because I heard the song Fuel)...but the next one I got was Master of Puppets, and it blew me away. It was my first experience with 80s metal...what a disc! I remember putting it in my CD player for the first time. Battery started out with a nice little acoustical guitar for 45 seconds, and then like a sledgehammer...BAM! Solid wall of guitars. "Wow...this is Metallica?" I'd heard Battery on S&M, but it sounded so much different on Puppets. I'd never heard anything like it before...and that's what started my 80s metal obsession.
  23. New Song #2 @ http://youtube.com/watch?v=m0VKpfMkKKI IMO, it's MUCH better than New Song #1...lots of melody and Kirk has some pretty cool guitar work in there. The "wooah-ooh-oh" chorus that James is doing is just filler since the lyrics aren't finished yet.
  24. I'm a pretty big 'Tallica fan...but I don't like the direction they took after Justice (and especially after the Black Album). Jason was a cool guy...the hazing thing only lasted a couple years, but it was still enough to leave him with hard feelings toward the band. I think I read one time that it and other things were the reason he ended up leaving a few years ago. I really don't like the new bassist (Rob Trujillo) either...he just doesn't fit in with the band well. Part of the reason they "sold out" on the black album was that Bob Rock was the producer (same guy that produced Aerosmith and a bunch of other bands)...Flemming Rasmussen did the first four albums, and RTL and MOP are superior in every way to anything else Metallica has put out. Absolute perfect production and sound. Personally, I like Kirk's guitar work. He's not the greatest of the greats, but he's pretty good. There are so many epic solos he has done on RTL and MOP....Fade to Black, Ride the Lightning, Sanitarium, Master of Puppets...they're permanantly engrained into my memory because they're so recognizable. But I gotta agree with Josh...I don't see much happening with the band in the near future. I've heard the new song, and it's basically St. Anger with a guitar solo. James' voice doesn't sound very good these days, and there's nothing that grabs you about their songs anymore. Metallica is still my favorite band, but Megadeth definitely puts out better albums today. The System Has Failed has some REALLY good stuff on it...much better than anything Metallica has put out in the last 15 years. Dave and the band still has a lot of energy left in 'em. It's a damn shame Metallica can't do the same anymore.
