PM Awards GM 3.9 V-6 For Breakthrough Technology
I have that "ancestor" engine, it feels plenty potent for my needs (albiet a little rough these days). 3.8L 90* V6 PROS: Shorter engine Potent engine when supercharged/turbo'd and or just modded. CONS: wide engine heavy engine not naturally balanced 60* Pushrod V6 Pros: "compacy dynamo" narrower engine potentially potent engine, takes mods well. Utilizes newer technology. Fuel econ (3.5L) CONS: Fuel economy(3.9L -- altho this may just be GM getting the gear ratios for it to be faster) taller engine and for good taste... 4.3L 90* V6 Pros: hacked off a 350 block, so easy to mod. large displacement Cons: BIG! HEAVY! SLOW! :P

PM Awards GM 3.9 V-6 For Breakthrough Technology
the 60* family is naturally balanced compared to the 90* family (er 1 engine) that needs balancing. the 60* block has always been a compact and powerful block to build off of. Lets remember the 3.4L DOHC version... what was that? 210hp in 94? thats pretty nice... and 10 years later the 3.5L OHV version is making 211!!! WHAT PROGRESS!!! :P 90* is too large and bulky to be useful in typical car applications. The ygot the ole 2.8Ls in Cavaliers, but i doubt a 3.8L would fit, or if it did it would be very tight. the 60* block has more potential in the long run than the 90* one. and the 4.3L V6 is actually a V8 with 2 cyls hacked off unlike the 3.8L which was devised as a 90* and not made off a V8,

2007 Tahoe transmission
Hopefully they dont make the 6spd all close ratio, usually kills highway mileage (why you sometimes see 6spd Manuals getting worse mileage than 4spd autos) Besides whats the benefit of a 6spd over a 4? 3% better gas mileage and maybe shave .2 seconds off the 0-60?

Govt proposal to increase fuel economy
With GMs new V8s i dont see GM having any EPA issues anytime soon. What do you think a 4.8 Silverado will be able to get? 19/28? if thats the case might as well use a 4.8 instead of the 3.5L in the colorado (maybe squeeze out 20/29). i guess u could call GM the Honda of trucks now eh? lol

why women live longer than men

Larger Engines in the Corvette?
Less stress? Someone earlier figured out that say a 7.0L V8 running at 6000rpm has much more stress than some lil I4 2.0L DOHC engine at 8000rpm. But that is aside the point. the point is a DOHC engine is better suited for higher output than a Pushrod engine. This aint a truck engine, it doesnt need mass quantities of torque, its just a high revving engine. Are you guys saying you wouldnt have smile plastered on your face pushing 8500rpms in a sports car? (provided the exhaust tone was perfect of course)

Govt proposal to increase fuel economy
Less gov programs = less taxes = easier to afford healthcare yay im a genious :P
-
Larger Engines in the Corvette?
Yes, but not in small sporting applications, where high redlines rule the day, the added weight and size is offset by higher output attained by higher revvs.

Nov. MT on the Z06's HP numbers
and a go-kart making 80hp could whoop it too (if you didnt die while driving it... itd need a transmission too...)
-
Larger Engines in the Corvette?
DOHC makes it a bit taller. and im still sure it would fit. OTHERWISE, you could use superlight valvetrain materials and drive the cost up a lot more to attain those revvs. id be thrilled if they made a cheap-o little sporty engine. like a destroked 3.9L- maybe displace 2.5L and revv to about 8000... make about... uhhh 200hp.

GM, CAW far apart as strike looms
Ch11, freeing GM of legacy costs will only portray them as an evil greedy corporation, sending people who spent their lives building GM cars out in the cold.... not a great image for them.

Larger Engines in the Corvette?
Yeahhh... instead of having a little ~300hp OHV 6500rpm V12 (given 242 ft/lb @6500) , lets go with a ~350hp DOHC 8500rpm V12 (given 220ft/lb @ 8500rpm).

Techinal Engine Name Trivia
im too lazy to look em up but....' 1) a Nissan truck engine, also made use of in the Nissan 240SX, power output is prodigious for a 90s I4, fuel economy was so-so. commonly swapped for the SR20DET, altho it makes respectable power when modified itself. Engine stats: 140hp until 1992 when it was uprated to 155hp. by the 240SX's demise in 1998 it made 155hp and 160lb/ft torque. 2.4L obviously...

a manual transmission, any car feels "sporty" with a manual because your in controll of the engine, not some stupid computer.
