  1. GuionM posted this on another board, and I thought that his post would interest people here. I don't have any additional knowledge about GM's plans beyond what I read here, the Camaro Z28 board, Hudson's posts at GMI, and Automotive News. I don't want GM to drop the G6 because it is Pontiac's core model, just as the Lucerne is Buick's core model.

  4. I flew out of the Atlanta airport this afternoon. I expected a disaster going through security, but I left the hote in midtown Atlanta at 10:30 a.m., rode MARTA to the airport, and was checked in and through security by 11:30 a.m. TSA was very efficient, at least in Atlanta.
  5. GM will make a Lucerne off the same platform. Anything else is speculative or wishful thinking at this time.
  6. I don't think that any of the Holdens are stylish enough to succeed over here as a Buick.
  7. Automotive News will outline GM's product plans over the next few weeks just as it did for Ford. I will believe that Buick will import the Statesman if Evok, thegriffon, CD/BP, or Automotive News say so. I don't expect a RWD Buick until the 2011 or 2012 Lucerne.   8. I don't think either the Theta or the convertible will happen, even though the convertible would be very appealing.
  9. Would you accept a Lincoln built in England or a Jaguar built in North America. To gain efficiencies, the cars would have to be built on the same assembly line.

    It looks more like a Chevy version of the Saturn Aura than the Lucerne to me. I think it's a very attractive car.

  14. As thegriffon said in post 36, I'd take Lutz' leak about the Statesman with a grain of salt. At this time, I am skeptical about any more Holdens coming here.

    My job sent me to Chicago for 4 days in June, 2004. I loved walking around Michigan Avenue and the Gold Coast area and that beach along Lake Michigan, and I certainly noticed the scantilly clad women too. I would walk 8 or 9 miles every evening and loved it.
  17. I respect 91z4me, but my understanding is that the LaCrosse moves to Epsilon II for 2010, and I don't know his source of information for refreshing the Grand Prix. The 2008 LaCrosse update won't be nearly as extensive as the 2006 Impala update, and the car doesn't need to be around 4 more years. The Lucerne is Buick's core model; it is doing a good job of replacing the LeSabre and Park Avenue; and I think another large Buick sedan is a mistake. Automotive News is too expensive, considering that the good information makes it here or is reported at autoweek.com within a few days.
  18. I argue that the buff mags favor and test cars that I could never afford and don't interest me, so it's time for me to stop subscribing to them.
  19. The Lucerne will probably be around 4 or 5 more years before Zeta Lucerne debuts, so the Statesman will be outdated by then. I don't see anything in thegriffon's post to hint that there will be two large Buick sedans at the same time.
  20. GM doesn't have any future FWD platforms for cars larger than Epsilon, so I don't know how Buick could remain all FWD anyway, unless they're going to keep updating the G body.
  21. I see the Lucerne's competitors being the Chrysler 300, Mercury Grand Marquis, and the Toyota Avalon. I see the Malibu as GM's competitor for the Camry and Accord. I see the Impala as competing against the Dodge Charger and the Ford Five Hundred.
  22. He has a lot of fans who miss him. I see he still reads here and posts about once per month at GMI.
  23. For the next 10 years, I would not get my hopes up for any additional Buicks besides the LaCrosse, Lucerne, and Enclave.
  24. The Camaro used various versions of the 60 degree V6 until the late 1990's, when the 3800 replaced it.The 3.4L DOHC was based upon the OHV 60 degree V6, not the Quad 4. Also, GM has only been talking about RWD for the non-luxury brands for the last 3 or 4 years. There were no plans for any new RWD Chevrolets or Pontiacs until the Zeta/Sigma-lite speculation started up around 2001 or 2002. On the other hand, my recollection is that Ford's DEW98 platform was supposed to not only be used for the Jaguar S-type and Lincoln LS, but was also going to replace the Panthers until the program was scaled back.
  25. I can see a remote possibility of the Commodore being imported here as a Pontiac, but I am sure that the next RWD Buick will be the Zeta Lucerne and will be produced at Oshawa.
