  1. Since people demand 5 star safety ratings and since Zeta will mostly be used for sedans, they probably can't. Anyone wanting a Chevrolet coupe with an Ecotec can buy a Cobalt.
  2. Pontiac Vibe - more fuel efficient than any of GM's domestic small cars, with good cargo space.
  3. From the way people are talking, don't get your hopes up for more than two Chevrolets (Impala/Camaro), one Buick (Lucerne), and a slight possibility of two Cadillacs (DTS/SRX).
  4. I would buy it only with a turbodiesel. Fuel economy is the only reason I would want a small car.
  5. What do you think of this blurb from today's Car Connection? Is Ford Eyeing Aussie Exports? Ford announced on Thursday that its Australian operations would benefit from $1 billion in investment in the next decade. And in a carefully worded press release, Ford hinted that it may see its Down Under ops in the same way GM now views Holden — as a hothouse for future American-style muscle cars and rear-drive sedans. Ford confirmed in its release that its Australian Falcon/Territory sedans and utes would be the basis for new vehicles drawn from its “globally competitive large rear-wheel-drive vehicle platform.” Ford also said that its Australian team would begin to design vehicles for left-hand-drive applications. Ford will spend some of the $1 billion on establishing Australia as its “center of excellence” for the Asia Pacific and Africa region. The center will be charged first with developing a new global light commercial vehicle architecture that will spawn commercial vehicles for use in 80 countries.
  6. Absolutely correct. Maybe the new proposed CAFE rules (which appear to be based on the size of the car instead of a particular average for the entire company, if I understand them correctly) will allow Detroit to get out of markets where they are not competitive and concentrate on the cars that can make them profits.
  7. I was ridiculed here almost 3 years ago for posting the same sentiment when people were working themselves up about a new Camaro, but I agree completely.
  8. Over at the CamaroZ28 message board, the talk is that the Camaro may have a base V6, a high output V6, and a 6.2L V8 only in the most expensive version.http://64.65.63.61/forums/showthread.php?t=447456
  9. I remember paying $1.30/gallon in 1991, which I thought was high. Adjusted for inflation, that would probably be around $2.25 now, I suppose.
  10. You can blame increased demand in China and India, as well as supply problems in Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, and Venezuela, as well as a weak dollar for high oil prices. The best thing Bush could do is end the war in Iraq; I remember high oil prices because of Desert Storm in 1991, but the prices came down when the war ended. We Americans also need to conserve more.

Unfortunately, the current Malibu's closest competitor is probably the Kia Optima. The Hyundai Sonata is a far superior car. GM sure let a lot of people down, after years of high hopes for the Epsilon platform. Hopefully, Chevrolet will make the next Malibu something special that can compete with the Camry, but we've gotten our hopes up too high in the past.

I don't. Buick is much more conservative, traditional, comfortable than Acura. I think that the next generation Cadillac BLS, probably Epsilon II, may be GM's Acura competitor.
  13. ehaase replied to carman21's topic in Buick
Sorry, but it's Chevrolet's job to compete with Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. Buick is better off sticking with its niche of large, comfortable , upper middle class American cars like the Lucerne and Enclave.
  14. I don't know why anyone would choose the Optima over its platform mate the Hyundai Sonata. A 235 hp Sonata GLS V6 is a bargain.
  15. I hope that you will keep those of us who have been your and AH-HA's fans since the TCC days updated on version 2.0.
  16. My understanding is that the Outlook's price will be competitive with the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Pilot. Probably $26,000 and higher.
  17. Around 2009 or 2010, both Pontiac and Buick will have Epsilon II's - G6 and LaCrosse. I wonder how they will keep them from competing against each other. Maybe the G6 could be the coupe and convertible and the sedan could be the LaCrosse.
  18. The only sure Zetas at this time appear to be the Impala and Camaro, probably for the 2009 model year. There probably will be a Buick sedan, but we don't know when or if it will replace or supplement the Lucerne. A Pontiac sedan or coupe is still up in the air. The replacements for the Cadillac DTS and SRX may be on Zeta instead of Sigma, but that's not yet decided. This is all I can figure out from reading these threads here and on the Camaro boards, as well as AH-HA's old blog. And with some financial commentators saying that gasoline may hit $5.00/gallon this summer, I wonder if GM may make some changes to this program.
  19. So what will happen with Hamtramck if the Lucerne and DTS replacement go to Oshawa?
  20. Any idea what platform the RWD replacements for the Lucerne and DTS will use, if not Zeta?
  21. Any idea what will happen to that plant when the DTS and Lucerne have run their course?
  22. AH-HA recently posted at GMI that Zeta will also be produced at Detroit Hamtramck, in addition to Oshawa.

You have to be one of the moderators, one of the insiders, or one of the popular people like ocnblu, Blackviper, Croc, etc.
  24. After rebates and discounts, who pays 30 grand for them?
