  1. If this is real as opposed to vaporware, would the late John Z DeLorean approve?
  2. The competition might break Tesla, but the real questions are Who and How? Is Tesla only competitive in the USA, or Europe and China too? Which luxury make will drive Tesla sales down in the next five years? We will have to wait and see . . . .
  3. Sounds like great news.
  4. Tesla does not CARE about interiors like the others. They want to be the Luxury equivalent of a Prius. On that basis, they are quite successful. That does NOT mean that their success will last forever, especially if Tesla does not improve their fit and finish and their self-driving features.
  5. So why are Cadillac and Benz and Lincoln sales falling? I was going to say that Mercedes needs a lower tier model, but then I remembered that Mercedes IS the lower tier model across Europe. CNBC has a video on how Mercedes has lost its luster.
  6. It helps to have VW as your parent company to deal with making BEVs across Porsche's lineup, whether it is now or in 2030.
  7. Never promise what you cannot deliver. I do hope that Tesla and Elon Musk have learned their lesson. I wonder how Lincoln can actually fix that. Cadillac does not seem to have that problem.
  8. I would be shocked if BE Semis replaced ICE versions in the next 25 years. Cost/Benefit might not be good enough right now.
  9. Direct sales have nothing to do with it. State Agency shop laws that protect dealers essentially prevent direct sales on NEW vehicles. The downfall of car companies require crashing market share with few repeat or conquest buyers. (See Plymouth, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn in the last 25 years.)
  10. Well, I think that GM or Ford COULD do it. Whether they will is another question entirely. You may be right about one thing: China, then Japan and/or South Korea are most likely to sell a $20K-25K BEV sometime in the future.
  11. It's about time. We all need cheaper BEVs in order to replace the used car fleet of ICE vehicles. I do hope that competition can drive a $25K vehicle down to below $20K.
  12. I agree with you on FIAT and Alfa Romeo. Neither of them should have been brought to the USA in the first place, but Sergio answers to Italians on the boot, not shareholders. Stellantis should ditch FIAT and Alfa Romeo as soon as possible. Why? Simple: Stellantis is NOT VW, nor should they aspire to be VW. Don't believe me? Ask Ford and their plans to become another GM in the 1950s with the Continental and especially the Edsel.
  13. FIAT Chrysler products are still sitting on the lot these days. I wonder how Stellantis will solve this problem.
  14. 100% EV car sales in eight years? Unless ICE autos are traded in for EVs en masse, I doubt they will come close to reaching their goals. I could see Washington state require state government agencies go full EV, but the private sector will not move as fast. EVs are (for the most part) still expensive, especially compared to buying a decent used car with relatively low miles.
  15. One question: where does KIA fit into Hyundai/KIA/Genesis anyway? Seems to me that KIA is the value brand for the Koreans.
  16. Neither do I. I would NOT expect GM or Stellantis to do that either.
  17. I agree. The placement of this FORD plan here is a little inappropriate.
  18. KIA will get a luxury marque as soon as Amanti rises from Mazda. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. KIA is a pre-2000 Plymouth, nothing else.
  19. Cars have been getting more expensive in the last two years. The percentages may be shocking but not much else. BTW: How many vehicles have Rivian actually sold in the last two years? It can't be more than the sales of the newest Silverado/Sierra in that time.
  20. The Yale study is fine. It does NOT answer one question: When will EVs be cheap enough to displace used ICE vehicles? If you want transportation to emit less pollution and fewer emissions, then ICE vehicles need to be replaced. How fast that will be done, given the current EV market share is 2% in the USA and even less worldwide, is the only real question that matters. Whoever can sell at least one million EVs a year will make this somewhat plausible.
  21. While this is bad for us if we were BUYING a new vehicle, it does improve the chances that GM and Ford and (what's left of) Chrysler will still be around. Remember how GM and Ford and Chrysler were before 2009? Constantly building too much and moving the metal and perennial discounts. That is truly no more. At least Build to Order will make it easier to BUY what we want. . . . pity about the higher prices.
  22. That Caddy could easily be the next Camaro. Other than that, not really a Cadillac.
  23. Other than the Corvette and the BOF trucks/SUVs, where is GM's killer product?
  24. About turning a Buick into a Mopar competitor: WHY? Just dramatically update the Camaro and that should settle that issue. If Buick were to get a really fast car, then it needs to be aimed correctly: not Mopar but Lincoln and especially Acura.
  25. Yes, we shall see if there is much market acceptance for either EV once released.
