Gas Prices should start droping soon....
Come on now FOG if that were true the oil companies would be reporting record high profits even with the cost of regulatory requirements and uncertain times like Russia canceling their deals, etc. ... Hey wait a minute isn't that just what is happening? When I was just a little older than that the price of gasoline dipped to $0.19. I was commuting 31 miles each way to college and it cost $2.00 to fill up.

Next Ram penned by 300 designer
Question -- Is it possible that Toyota and Dodge are over doing this Texas thing. Aren't pickups a truly 50 state product. I think Chevy and Ford may have struck the correct cord with their more conservative designs. Pickups are easily customized - much like Scion would like to. So where would place the pickup design - conventional or cowboy?

Maybe it will have sales like the Impala too. That is, start slow and keep growing. I think that it is an handsome and mature design.

PT vs HHR
What a coincidence. Just today the much anticipated June/July issue of "Senior Living" arrived in the mail. This is the issue with Bob Barker( a very youthful 105) on the cover. On P. 14 was an evaluation of the HHR. They especially like the vehicle's ride, roominess, and general coolness. Particular emphasis was placed on the On Star feature. It seems that the concierge service of the On Star feature is helpful for finding a quick replacement when the intended audience craps their Depends and are caught without a replacement. When I was shopping for my youngest daughter's firs new car, the PT cruiser and Delta twins (Cobalt and ION) were on the short list. The HHR was not included because we are, as "Carbiz" would say ""price whores." The PT Cruiser rode poorly, shifted poorly, and the engine was unpleasant. "Senior Living" magazine included the following joke on the next page.

Senator to Automakers - "You lose" CAFE argument
If you think CAFE is too draconian, consider Iran's governmental actions. Although they have plenty oil reserves, they have too little refinery capacity. In order to to put a lid on increased refined oil importation, the government is raising prices sharply and instituting a rationing system. As many as 50 gas stations have been reported burned by protesters.

Senator to Automakers - "You lose" CAFE argument
I'd trade my tax incentive for an insurance premium incentive.

GM designing new 1.4/1.6l engine family
I realize that China has been a great success for GM. However, I am a very cautious person by nature and this whole adventure (China) makes me nervous.

How I would fix Chrysler
I'm not going to win any friends with this but .... what is the point of "rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic". When I think of the former Chrysler corporation I think of excellence in engines and the tourgeflyite transmission. Now its a mediocre engine shared with Hyundai and an even less acceptable CVT transmission. First thing s first.

Terrible fleet numbers for GM, Ford, DCX
There is two sides to every issue. My #1 (of 4!!) son in law is a car hauler. Sometimes new, sometimes used, sometimes auction, frequently daily rentals. Last month he told me that there were lots of Arcadia going to car rentals. The other side? The rental places can't keep them on the lot. As soon as they come in - they go back out.

Senators reach agreement on fuel economy
This op-ed is timely and puts some of these questions into geopolitical perspective.

Avenger R/T
That star rating system is for the review of the car, not the car.

Behold, The PhUV - Philippine Utility Vehicle
That is exactly what came to mind for me too. Dated? as in the 50's? It''s not dated; it's sophmoric and ugly.

Ecotec?
365,000 mileson an Ecotec This posters previous two ecotechs went 250,000 miles. One was totaled, the other was sold to his mother! Regarding gas mileage, many Saturn owners report looong break in periods before fuel mileage increases. Eventually it is quite good.

Car Spotter check: What 'econoboxes' have you been seeing on the road
My #1 son in law bought a nice original 1969 VW Beetle before the gas prices went up. He is trying to average out the Hemi Durango he bought. What a mistake that was (somewhat troublesome and thirsty).

Principle Problem: Resale value
His previous two Saturns both lasted 250,000. Won got totaled in an accident and he sold the other one to his mother. Would you sell a Honda with $250,000 miles on it to your mother?

Principle Problem: Resale value
I guess Saturn reliability is going down (satire). This gentlemen had engine problems with his ION and went with a new Civic. full thread here

Sorry I don't have the link but I read that Toyota said that the hybrids were a temporary fix until they get their diesel act together.

Harbour reports say that Spring Hill is the most efficient engine producing plant in North America. They still do that, don't they?

May 2007 Sales: Toyota Motor Sales
I tend to believe its media stupidity and herd mentality more than biasis. Just my opinion.
