  1. Happy holiday's everyone, hope it was a good one.
  2. I honestly couldn't tell you where it all begin for me (as my memory seems to fail me, lol) but according to my mother from a very early age I was able to name almost every car on the road before I even knew how to read. Yes I mean before any kind of schooling. I know it sounds like bull$h!, but I do vaguely remember always "just knowing" what car that was going down the road. Strangely enough I think I was more adept at cars of the period so my guess is 70's and early 80's cars. My knowledge of the classics hadn't fully developed yet. I just assumed I saw tv ads for the cars and managed to have a good memory, thats my only guess as to how I was able to do it. By the time I was 5 or 6, I would make my dad take me to any junked out cars we found on the street and let me sit in it and pretend I was driving. Also at this point around the age of 5 or 6 my dad taught me how to drive. We had a 1985 Pontiac Sunbird and I used to sit on his lap and steer the car down the road while he worked the pedals. a couple years later when I could reach the pedals I actually drove his '85 Mustang around with him riding shotgun. This was probably around the age of 10. I always had a huge collection of cars, both 1:18 scale and Matchbox size. Oddly enough one of my favorite toy cars was a '77-79 Impala that had opening front doors and trunk. It was green with a black interior, and perhaps it was a sign of things to come as my first car became a 78 Olds Ninety Eight which is basically a slightly stretched 77 Impala. In the early 90's I began going to the NYIAS, and that became a annual tradition for nearly a decade. I also had subscriptions to Motor Trend, VW Trends, 5.0 Mustang and I believe Car And Driver. With the dawn of the internet age and google, and things like C&G and ebay motors I can keep up with news and info on the latest cars coming and the cars of yesterday....and thus the love affair continues.

I use the Pine Tree's too, my current scent of choice is called Black Ice. It's a hard scent to describe, the best way to put it is perhaps a hint of new car smell and God knows what else...lol. My family did the forest thing too in some of the cars back in like the 80's but not anymore.

C&G has been my home on the net for a few years now and it's good to be back. In early October my trusty Toshiba laptop took a fall and died a horrible death, and as such I've been without a computer since then. But my misery of being without a keyboard at my finger tips and C&G before my eyes has come to an end, today I bought a brand new HP Pavilion. Now I'm not a computer savy guy so I'll try to explain the specs as best as I can, it has 5GB memory and a 640GB hard drive, AMD Phenom X4 processor and an Nvidia graphics card. The package also came with a 22'' HP monitor which can swivel and rotate. I'm still trying to get used to it going from a laptop and getting used to Vista, but it's good to be back, I'm sure i have a lot of news to catch up on.
  12. What a way to go....

DF if you're getting 38 MPG out of a 4.6 liter 2 ton boat like a GM and I'm getting under 20 in a V6 powered Riviera....something's not right here and I demand a recount! :angry2:
  14. Just thought I'd fill you in on another 3800 update. At about 104,700 miles my Riviera's intake manifold gasket began leaking this past Thursday. I just had it replaced and the bill came out $578 including an oil change and 2 gallons of antifreeze. So I would have all gaskets checked by a mechanic you trust on any car with a 3800 engine even if the mileage is bellow 100K just to be sure.

Some cheap $50 Samsung phone I've had for 3 years or so, it's beat to $h!, scratched, chipped, dinged...you name it. It still works so no need to upgrade, I have Verizon, love the service for the most part. It's a bit pricey but you get excellent coverage for the most part. Much better than Sprint/Nextel (which I've had).
  16. Sorry for your loss, my condolences to you and your family.

It saddens me to have to post this, but Richard Wright, keyboardist for Pink Floyd died today. I just saw this video. RIP.
  18. Number 10 on that list says it all, I rest my case. But 1-9 are just as bad.

Actually the 85 max began in the late 70's, at least with the new downsized B-bodies in '77. Both my 78 and 79 Olds' have 85 MPH speedo's while the 76's still went to 120 I believe.

  22. Yet again, I'd like to know where in this thread I said Asian's were the good minority? First it was comments I made regarding the military ( which were Dodgefan's remarks) now it's Asians are better....lol. I love how you, and AAS mention only California. This is not the case across the country, and certainly not in my neck of the woods. Nor any of the states I've been through...including driving from NY to Florida and stopping off along the way in Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia along the way, for more than just fuel I might add. I've also traveled north of NY as well and I have yet to see such a diverse cultural acceptance in public malls and places like this. Sure they're Chinese eatery's and Pizzeria's and things like this, and maybe a store here and there that will have another language printed on it's sign, but it isn't common. But then again there are areas here in New York that have turned into basically small Spanish towns, and small Asian towns. I'll give you an example, Port Chester NY has a high Hispanic population, with alot of the store's having their signs in Spanish only, but again this is not the problem, if they are legal citizen's and have succeeded in opening their own businesses and are making a honest living. The point I've been making this entire thread is those who come here illegally and get jobs without paying taxes are the problem. It's a slap in the face to people like myself who were born here and abide by the laws of this country. It's a lack of respect for our ways of life, and to be here and to get away with that is what pisses me off. To have our Government cater to a specific group of people just because they're here in large numbers and growing is wrong if a lot of them are sneaking into this country and not American citizen's. Larger companies who's automated phone's asking me to continue in English is the problem. This was not the case 50 years ago, nor even 20 years ago. It shouldn't be the case now either. American citizen's speak in the English language, whether officially or not it is the 'official' language of this country. Learn it.
