  1. Sorry to say times have changed as they always do. Which all goes back to my statements on education. If you have the skills and are flexible, someone growing up today or just starting out should do fine in this economy. Unskilled labor has been moving out of this country for 100 years. That is not a recent trend. Farming, textiles and now manufacturing, (caveat ) when looking at the big picture. Now low skill jobs include clerks in law firms or accounting office and even technical jobs such as CAD designers, etc. There is no difference between purchasing a robot in a plant or a state of the art tractor on farm to improve performance or efficiency than farming out low skill labor. That is not my opinion but the state of where things have been for a long time in this country. Read my post, I did not say you.[ As with anything it depends where you work. I am in the process of looking up statistics on labors homepage. If you want to make this an interesting discussion I suggest you do the same. If not, this is a round robin, circular discussion that will not go anywhere. I will post data when I dig through the nosie on the government site.
  2. Than American, Canadians, Europeans, etc. need to do what it takes to keep a job or create a job. That takes, initiative, education and a drive to do what people need to do. That means not expecting a company to take care of you for 30 years, or a union to hide behind or whatever excuse anybody can cook up to displace responsibility. Small buisness is still leading job creator in the US.
  3. Though I am not a fan but I think the book is a good outline for what has happend to the world. Read Friedman's The World is Flat. Should be a wake up call for the flag wavers out there.

It is not the Blue Devil engine in the vehicle.
  5. Who's fault is it that there are less and less children going into math and the sciences? Who's fault is it that the US is turning out less engineers each year? Who's fault is it that that there are more higher degreed foreign born science professional coming out of MIT, Standford, etc? Who is to blame for the scientific focus of Chinese, Japanese, Germans, Indians, etc. Washington? Society? Hollywood? American as individual should look in the mirror first. It is easy to throw stones and place blame. Look in the mirror! Wake up America, you only have yourself to blame.

He has seen NOTHING and is just speculating on everything.
  7. Based upon "The Pompous One" line up - besides taking GM 5 years to implement fully would knock GM's sales to 3,000,000 in the US. That is down from app. 4.5 - 5.0 million sales today. That is a lot of cash flow to knock off the bottom line. How is that going to help pay for the obligations, how many plants is that going to close? "The Pompous One" has been sniffing too much bile and it is going to his head. It is about time someone pulls "The Pompous One's" head out of his ... His proposal would cost GM app. $60 billion.

My quote:"Each day that passes moves the clock back app. 30 months until any zeta vehicle hits the showroom." Hmm - Please re-read.

A program first has to be timed before it is delayed. 18 - 24 months - ha ha ha - keep believing the kool-aid brother - you are getting info from people that do not know vehicle development. Sorry to tell everyone, a move to rwd by GM is a lot bigger investment for the company than building a CONCEPT vehicle. And it is not just the economics of scale by putting other vehicles on the rwd platform. It is the investment to get to the economics of scale when there is a paradign shift in philosophy.

I think people need to seriously get over themselves. The vehicle shown at Detroit was a CONCEPT car and only a CONCEPT car. GM never stated that this concept car was indicative of a production vehicle in the pipeline. GM never said that the vehicle was destined for production. GM never said when the vehicle would hit showrooms. Welburn's statements only indicated that GM might be able to expedite the program if the vehicle was give approval. GM never mentioned that the vehicle would be in showrooms in 18, 24, or 36 months. People got caught up in the propaganda and false timing by those that do not understand how long the vehicle gestation period is. Given that this is only a CONCEPT, a 36 month or so lead time is normal. GM's only mistake in thinking that it would create some excitement when they needed it was showing the CONCEPT in the first place, creating unrealizable expectations. If anybody would have taken what I have been saying to heart, they would understand. So with that I have no sympathy.

I would not count on it, there are bigger priorities at the Tubes and it may not be rwd/Camaro.

I am not validating Edmunds claims, but the news I am hearing out of the Tubes indicate it might be very accurate.
  16. First the article is a moot point since the announcements were made back in October that Honda would cut Ridgline production during the first quarter 06. To directly answer your question: Inventory Feb 1, 2006 Avalanche - 145 day Ridgline - 76 day Jan. sales Avalanche - 2345 Ridgline - 3814
  17. Nothing has changed and becareful who tells you what and I would not take that bet. I have posted in the past, prior to launch what the powertrain configurations for the H3 will be. The MT report for the 3.7 is correct at the HP figures cited for 07. But there are more surprise later on.

I trust my sources better than your opinion. 2010 MY for NA.
  20. "But Erich Merkle, an analyst with the Grand Rapids-based consulting firm IRN Inc., said GM was simply putting a positive spin on investments that had to be made anyway because there are some significant changes to the vehicle models. "It's a little bit of puffery, to offset the bad news that's been out there the last three or four months," Merkle said. "In automotive terms, it's pocket change. It's really not that much money in the scheme of things.""
  21. This is nothing more than GM and Granholm trying to save face in light of recent announcements. This investment has been allocated years ago to support new launches of the new 6sp transmission, CTS and launch of the 900s.

This is way out in future world. Won't be over here until the start of the next decade.
