The New Tundra
Being objective, the only thing that is a certain is that the 08 Tundra is a leap ahead of the vehicle it is replacing. It will in the end take on the big three head on in most of the fullsize truck segments with a competent vehicle based upon size mix configurations, powertrain offerings, and specifications. Does that guarantee that the Toyota will increase market share in the segment. No. Just because Toyota has the capacity to produce 300k vehicles a year, does not mean there is a demand for the product at or above current sales rates. The current Tundra buyers might not migrate to the new Tundra because it is such a quatum leap from the previous tweeny. That is a big unanswered question without a answer. The Camry, Accord built a loyal following at a time in the US market where the big three did not have vehicles that competed directly with the Japanese offereings. That is not the case in the fullsize truck market. In the fullsize pu market, the big three do have a loyal following and a strong reputation for reliability and durability as well as image. With uncertain fuel prices and instability in the the mid east, the decretionary fullsize pu purchase might be questionable. So with that, the success of the Tundra is not a certainty. Does it take on the big three head on, yes, but that does not mean success. Even from Toyota.

Ford: GM didn’t win ’05 sales crown -- we did
There is a little bit of hankey pankey with both Ford and GM. And probably under pressure from the OEM, the dealers are the reason this occurs. With the numbers between Ford and Chevy so close, and the metric is sales Chevy wins. Sales is logged by the paperwork and not state registration. This is less ominious than it appears in the article. The 1999 Cadillac story were a complete fabrication of sales. An example is my car. The sale was logged at the end of the month according to the paperwork even though I did not take possession of the vehicle with completed state registration until 3 days later in the following month. I did not realize it at the time and assumed it was delivery date. Nope. It is symantics. How many 2004 vehicles did each brand sell each year.

This is symantics - a vehicle does not have to be registered to be classified as a sale.

Detroit's Pony Car Dilemma
I posted this earlier. Typical, duck and run. Less than 15% for the Camry compared to over 50% for the Impala and GP. I do not think it is a matter IF they sell to fleet but how much!

Don't put words in my mouth as you try to put your spin on my arguments. You misrepresent words and facts about as bad as you claim the media does.

Chicago: 2007 Toyota Tundra
The big question that no one is asking is, will the new Tundra because of its size compared to the old alienate their current base?

Chicago: 2007 Toyota Tundra
Pushrod, not certain but unlikely. But I know it will be bigger than what is in there now. And the back of the vehicle will grow wider as well.

York elected to GM board
There is a UAW election coming up this summer. So I suspect any announcements would have to wait until after that. Gettelfinger knows the issues, the question is, can he sell the solution to the people he represents?
-
Chicago/New York are next, what should we expect?
Damn it, why do you have to be so rational? I hate reading a rational arguement. I prefer reading about the conspiracy theories and black helicopter.

Consultant: Toyota will spurn Michigan
I think you are right, GM and Ford already has that covered.
