I should probably add that those large steering wheels are there for function as well as for form. Many cars in those days didn't have power steering, or at least it was optional. The big wheel gave the driver more leverage to be able to generate the rotational force required to steer the car left or right, especially at very low speeds. Imagine trying to pilot one of these cars through a parking lot with a Cobalt-sized steering wheel. Anyone who tries that should probably have good insurance.

You're in luck. I have a pic of that exact car saved on my PC. I scanned it in from a Corvette calendar given to me years ago. I just have to convert it to JPG so I can post it here. Your first sentence shows that you missed my point entirely, but your second sentence is absolutely correct. GM does need more than just great panel gaps. They need designs that can't possibly come from anywhere else but GM. You could easily take any modern interior design from one manufacturer, plop it into car made by another manufacturer, and the majority of people wouldn't know. Honestly tell me you don't think a modernized version of any of these would look great in a GM car today. I'll start with the quintesential Corvette interior. A 1955 Bel Air. OH MY GOD!!!! An interior with color in it..get outta town The stainless trim across the center of the dash is embossed with little bowties. GM needs that kind of attention to detail. Other manufacturers' interiors aren't going to help GM stand out. GM produced some of the finest interiors of all time, with a style that was all their own. Let each brand draw from the great styles of its past, and just update it to the best possible fit and finish standards.

I was gonna try to have just the one plate, but I saw my car arrive at the dealership with the bracket already in place. If I get a Solstice or Corvette, though, I'm not buying it unless there's no bracket there. I remember going to Arizona last year and seeing cars go up and down the freeway with no plates at all. When you first register a car they give you a temporary plate made of paper with adhesive on either end that you stick to the rear glass. If you ride with the windows down, it takes about two days for that piece of paper to come loose and fly out the back window.

The LT1 has a pretty good aftermarket, though I've heard it's not as good as the aftermarket for the LS1, and some of the GM Performance Parts for it are being discontinued. In any case, 400hp is easily achievable with basic heads/intake/cam/exhaust upgrades. You'd definitely need to beef up the tranny, though, since the old 4L60s weren't meant to handle that much power. You'd also need to look at the suspension. A B-body Impala SS won't take the turns nearly as well as a GTO. At the minimum I'd say get a spring/shock upgrade, though you might want to check the hot rod mags to see how difficult it is to fit an IRS from a Corvette in there. If you're handy and can do the mods yourself, you might be talking about $10K in upgrades to get it to hang with a GTO (probably about 2-3K of that is for the engine). Depending on how much you get the car for, it may or may not be worth doing over a GTO.

It's GMCSD, short for GM Center Stack Disease. As far as center stacks go, the LaCrosse is one of the better recent ones that GM has done. Everything fits nicely, and from what I gathered when I sat in one, the switchgear is of pretty high quality. The biggest gaffe with the LaCrosse stack is the expanse of nothingness on eithter side of the radio and HVAC. If they narrowed it or put some plood, brushed plaluminum, or some plome (plastic chrome, get it? ;)) it'd be a lot better. The ebony inside, though, does hide it pretty nicely.

Hmm...My favorite rock stations are Squizz, Music Lab (lots of Dream Theater), and Bone Yard (lots of 80s,but it's the only way I get any VH, Def Leppard, or Aerosmith). Occasionally I like Fred or Lucy, but the first three are in my presets. Once your trial is up and you have to start paying for XM, you're entitiled to their free Internet player.
