The Pinto thread got me thinking
water-based primer that caused the paint to pop off even if you took care of the car automatic seat belts (both the GM version and the motorized version used by everyone else) talking DICs ("A door is a jar") digital dashes that never survived the warranty period completely intact

GM Engineering Chief Reuss Hopes for RWD Chevys, Buicks
Great way to start off my week, after the uber crappy week I just went through. BTW, JB - that picture on the front page is hot.

I understand the reasons for its existence, but I will not be caught dead in one.

DOHC or SIBC for Corvette C7
That, along with the RPMs at which they're achieved. Again, the C7 is going on a huge diet. Even if the current LS engines are used, if the Corvette slims down to the weights that Dwight is proposing, the performance gains will be significant. Just go with the SIBC and be done with it.

My luck ...
Sounds like a good find. IIRC, the myriad of problems with the 307 in BVs Cutlass mostly stemmed from the carb. With that out of the way, you should be in good shape. And once the Rocket's sold, you got yourself a working, low mileage engine for nothing. I hope this is the end of your string of bad car-ma. That Regal is an otherwise fantastic car that should be a good driver for you.

2011 Regal: A Buick bred on the Autobahn
See that's exactly what I'm thinking. The overall package/configuration is like nothing GM offers or has offered in this segment, and one that is particularly interesting to me as a potential upgrade to the Cobalt once I'm settled in new digs and I figure out what I can afford and I come to the conclusion that I don't need a truck after all. It is growing on me, and I really can't wait to see one in person so I can decide how I feel about the exterior.

2011 Regal: A Buick bred on the Autobahn
I really want to like the Regal. The exterior still looks bloated/melted to me, but that interior is fantastic. I'd really like to see it in the steel before I make my decision.

My luck ...
I think that's a pretty good approach. If nothing else, at least you are back on the road quickly for not much cash, and you can probably just unload the Rocket to help pay for it. If the 307 was rebuilt, it's likely that the components/gaskets/etc used in the rebuild correct the flaws that were in the factory design, though i'm not sure what the rebuild entailed. You might want to ask that just for your own benefit, but all in all I think you'll be OK for a while.

New forum software. Shiny!
Yeah, sorry about that. The IPB 3 skin templates are completely different and our old skins didn't convert over. I'm trying to figure out the new skin templates so I can change some colors around.

My luck ...
Exactly - you're not dealing wth disconnecting several wiring harnesses and assorted connections to the PCM and various sensors, doodads, and gizmos. Even working slowly and deliberately, on a carbureted engine you should have it out one day, and back in the next. If you want, throw in an extra day to rebuild whatever engine you decide to put back. You can probably rent an engine hoist from a local equipment store. Heck, I've seen people do it with tow trucks (just be sure to pull the hood of the car off first).

New forum software. Shiny!
This was what you'd call a "happy accident". My goal was to upgrade a second copy of the site and tease you all with screen caps of some of the new features. So much for being cynical. I still have some work to do in the meantime, so the site may blink once in a while today. But in the meantime, enjoy.

Whoops!
Whoops! I apologize for the downtime this evening. It definitely was not planned. I had meant to devote some time tonight to test out the new IPB3 software on a development copy of the site. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your viewpoint) I crossed a wire somewhere and I ended up upgrading the live site. After some bouts with Murphy's Law, I can say that at least we're up and running. So take a tour of Cheers and Gears' new duds. There's lots of new features to play with. When I'm done putting everything back the way it should be, hopefully I'll get to play with them too.

IPB v.3 is here!
I have a copy of the site up and running for development/upgrade purposes that I'll apply the upgrades to starting tonight and into tomorrow. If that works out, I'm good for an upgrade to the main site next week when I come back from a long weekend.

My luck ...
Careful - for $800 you can probably fix the Regal yourself even in a worst case scenario, and not add another potential money pit to your fleet.

My luck ...
Worst case scenario - Yank the Rocket out of the Regal and rebuild it at your leisure, then get a good, used, warrantied SBC (only because they're so plentiful) from a junkyard for a few hundred and run with that.
